  1. Been following this with interest.

30-40 Million THB missing, claimed taken by wife.

Wife claims he attacked her before.

    Was valuable amulet dealer.

Went to high ranking police officer to seek protection. Or not. Maybe just a social call! Police officer was amulet dealer too.

    Was drug user.

We will never, EVER find out the truth behind this one but I am keen to see what they spin the "truth" as....

  2. People often use 'Issan' synonymously with 'lower class'. There are plenty of upper class in Issan. And if you are earning 200k in Thailand, then in my book, you are upper class.

You don't change class in any hierarchical society. You are what you are, you're born into it and remain that class. If you're lower class and strike it rich then you're still lower class but rich and everyone else of any higher class will see that too.

  3. I was in a Gold shop in Yaowarat today and a Thai-Chinese guy was buying a HUGE twisted rope chain. It hung to his stomach when he was trying it on and was at least 10mm thick. 20Baht at least I'd guesstimate. He didn't look short of a few bob but wonder where or when he'd ever wear such a thing. It was certainly a custom piece so must be for a specific purpose.

  4. I wish the skytrain operated till around 2 am (at least on Friday and Saturday nights only). I don't think that is asking for too much.

I have seen these premature closing times all over the world. Not in every city, but many. It is totally mind boggling. You have MADD groups in the US, fighting this and that - why in the hell don't they put their efforts toward public transport operating after 2am?

As it's only single line running e/w I imagine they need to close between 00:00-06:00 for maintenance and repairs each day.

  5. Sorry, no pics to post myself but for those interested in the subject I can recommend a good free exhibition at the Bangkok Arts And Cultural Centre with them currently having a Street Photography show on. Some interesting, funny and thoughtful shots including a pretty contemporary looking set from 1958.

The Centre also has some other good galleries and is prob the best example of the Thai's copying a big Western idea (contemporary art centre) I've seen for a while. The actual building itself is very good too, it's form and function combine in a very satisfactory manner. Location wise it's right opposite MBK so easy to get to and completely free.

  6. Got directed here from another post that was opened today and closed by admin.

It was open to climb up as high as you can go today. Took some friends who enjoyed the visit very much. Two of the smaller stupas behind the main one have some scaff on currently.

As of today it is still very much worth going if you're on the tourist trail.

Edit - And it was indeed 50B for the entry and 3B for the ferry e/w..

  7. I guess I should say something simply because I am likely to belong to the top 1% on TV in terms of being an absolute clothes freak.

There is not a tailor in Bangkok who can deliver the same kind of quality and material that you'll get if you spend 40k baht on a normal factory collection Italian suit in one of the shopping malls. The problem for a certain percentage of the male population is that standard sizes aren't even close to fit.

But trust me when I say this; you can't buy a cashmere wool suit for less than 30k since the material itself is 30k.

You WILL NOT get the same quality as ordinary Canali, Zegna, Armani or similar if you buy a tailored suit in Bangkok. Period. Proper tailors in London are different, but then you're looking at a completely different price...

What you say is "almost" true ... but not totally. It took me many years to find them, but I know of two tailor shops ... both within two sois off of Sukhumvit ... that produce superb suits, coats, pants and shirts. They're both very expensive ... for Thailand ... but the quality is as good as any in England/Europe.

Please share details of these great tailors...

  8. The OP might prefer a club like Glow (Suk Soi 23) where people go more for the music and to dance, a "proper" dance club much more like what you might find on the more underground scene in the UK or US.

  9. I saw him a few days ago, looking well.

There was also a begger girl with a immaculately clean and well kempt pure White fluffy wuffy, furry wurrry little bunny wabbit that was attracting a lot of attention.

  10. Hey, I know that a consultation is needed first of course but from my own research I think I would like to try PDL laser treatment to try to fix some broken capillaries around my nose and what I think is also a touch of Rosacea. The V-Beam laser seems to get very good reports for this.

Any recommendations for this type of treatment in Bangkok? Would like to be able to talk to a practitioner who can assess my skin well and who uses this type of treatment and has a history of good results and good reviews from customers if possible.

    Thanks.
