Here in Sisaket ting tong seems to be a very popular expression and i've not noticed anyone taking offence when it is used.

It appears learningThai.com has a bandwidth problem so does anyone know of another site where the Thai alphabet can be listened to.

When i am in a converstaion with a Thai and ask them to speak slowly and use short words they only do so for a short time and then babble at full speed with obtuse words.

If they charge by the square metre then why not have a small sign in bright pink with a flashing light or two.

I know it appears that press freedom is diminishing but even before Mr Thaksin arrived in the 1990's there was little of no freedom to openly critisise the poo yai.

I think it is quite sensible to only eat seafood that you have seen swimming or flapping about in the restaurant.

I've found ant/termite sprays to be very effective and now only get troubled in the rainy season when their looking for a dry home.

Throwing a bit of Isaan vocab into a conversation can certainly make the locals smile and laugh.If a young lady is speaking a little loudly say "sow wow" and all will smile.

If you don't need the extra space a house on stilts has far less rodent visitors but is a worry with small children.

Fruit Trees

Along many of the highways are nurseries which have a large selection of fruit trees although i cannot imagine the lemons will produce fruit again.

Personally i would catch a taxi from the booth at arrivals and go straight to the train station as you will be tired and not want too much hastle.
As for katoeys they are guys who can make a very good attempt at looking like women so be careful if you like a beer or two and your vision blurs. They have a terrible reputation here for theft from drunken travellers.

Quite a soft New Zealand voice but all Thais i meet think i'm Australian.

Banks certainly give the best exchange rates and rates rise for increasing size of transaction.
