  1. If the Russians start coming to Chiang Mai in numbers like they go to Pattaya ,then there will be a huge shortage of Condos in Chiang Mai .

Chiang Mai as Thailands second City is still quite small and has a long way to grow .

Sorry but I think if the Russians and the Russian mafia come to Chiang Mai like they have in Pattaya and Phuket there will not be a huge shortage of condos because the anglos and other expats will start moving out to other locations. The Russians will just move into vacant condos.

The Russians never gave me a problen down in Pattaya/Jomtien .In fact they helped me out by paying the full price for my Condo .They keep to themselves ,and the mafia element only effect their own people by loan sharking etc .

Nice to see that you received full price for your condo. But it appears that you have moved out of the area. Kind of proves my point.

  3. Fedex guy was just trying to cover his ass. I;ve often receive emails from FedEx to come pick up a package.

I've spoken with the local FedEx people here in Chiang Mai regarding an email I'd received. They said it's an ongoing scam; they never send emails. They will attempt delivery, and if they're unsuccessful, they will leave a note at your door or gate.

Me also.. I was having trouble with FedEx back in February regarding 60% customs duties, overtime charges, etc. etc. They were phoning and emailing me on almost a daily basis. finally told them to destroy the package. But for 2 weeks after would receive an email every 2nd day wanting me to pay duty and overtime charges even though I told them to destroy the shipment.

  4. God - half a day looking at wood carvings would make me want to carve a hole through my chest to remove my beating heart to end the agony.

Royal flora - some people might enjoy it but I can't get into it. How many times can you say "wow more freakin flowers - yay" before you just go postal.

Op Khan National Park is pretty nice. Though I recall hearing that there was something dangerous there - I think either a drownings or snakes - but whichever it was, I heard it was more than one time.

Night Safari is something I have always wondered about by never went, so that could be another option (assumable in the evening ofc).

Other than that, I would have to agree with this:

There is nothing in Hang Dong worth seeing or visiting that I know of.

It`s just an area that people pass through when on route to somewhere else.

Different strokes for different folks. I wandered around all the shops for about 3 hours and watched artists work, but then I enjoy watching craftsmen. I also came home with a carving I liked and would not be able to purchase in Canada. Beetlejuice said there is nothing to do. Winnie the Kwai disagreed. I enjoy a walk or a hike in the forest while others prefer to guzzle beer all day. I enjoy going on long motorbike rides whereas others are too frightened to do so.

The question wasn't what you or I like to do so much as the various options near Hang Dong.

Why is it that women are so much more intelligent than we are?

  5. Go see a doctor. They'll probably stick you with a few rabies shots over the coming weeks.

Good advice. Cats also carry nasty bacteria in their mouth so antibiotics will probably be administered as well.

  6. I recommend you go to the Thai Airways office here in Chiang Mai and tell them what you want to do. They can show you how to use the website to book international flights.

Or go to Thai air booking at the airport. Easy parking.

  7. If its near bosang as you say then I probably have the perfect guy for you. Problem is he speaks no English so you would have to communicate in Thai. He is fully equipped ladders, branch cutters, chain saw, lawn mower etc. He does excellent work and he looks after the gardening for several houses near us with absentee owners. Pm me and I will give you his phone number.

  8. I would strongly consider checking it out then. I haven't even been there!

Sent from my GT-S5360B using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I think you have been reading Kathleen Peddicord's overseas retirement living to much. I have been to Panama on many occasions and unless you live high in the mountains miles away from a city, this place is a hell hole for heat and high humidity.

  9. Spotted next to the Tiger Kingdom at Mae Rim, Chiang Mai.......

Looks like it's needing a good feed sad.png

I call those pathetic looking Thai cows "Soi Cows". The milk they produce lacks a normal amount of fat which is why you get that weird "off" taste in Thai milk.

I think if you look closely at that picture, you will see a tuft of hair on the belly. Pretty hard to get milk there. Its either a steer or a bull. But as you say it is lacking a good feeding.

  10. Unfortunately not in the San Sai area but still has very good baguettes.

It is called Na Na Croissant. It is owned by a French man and his Thai wife. They have good coffee and fresh baked Danish pastry, croissants, muffins, baguettes, and quiche. There is room to sit indoors, though I prefer to sit at the outside tables that are in a nice tree-shaded area.

I have been there twice and the coffee and baked goods have been consistently good ... and very reasonably priced. I had two cappuccinos, a chocolate Danish, and a ham and cheese croissant while I was there and got a baguette and small quiche to take away. Total cost was 165 baht.

Here is a Google Maps link to show you the location. It is out to the southeast near the intersection of 1141 and 106. they are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you get lost or need directions, you can give them a call at 086-586-5405. If you are going specifically for bread, you might give then a call ahead to make sure they aren't sold out.

I have attached a couple of pictures of the food.

    Maybe I'll see you there.

    David

Thanks for the name and pictures. Now if I can find the soi off 1141 will pay them a visit next week.

  11. Thanks everyone for their input. We are quite convinced now that the land is 8.5 to 9 rai.

Many of you seem concerned about how we can purchase land with no title and no survey. This is a remote mountain village and no one has paper for any of their land here. What you do is make an agreement with the land owner, and their relatives, and the land owners of adjacent properties. And you get it down in writing with the village headman's approval, and then it is yours.

In this case we know all of the parties involved.

I don't know where they got the odd figure of 22 rai. But it is a piece of land they haven't touched for a long time and they probably never really knew how big it is. Wishful thinking and all that.

Now we all know how big it is, so we will make an offer based on what we know.

I can see a Canuck going amuck if he buys this land without proper documentation.

  12. Didn't know they had a new Tesco there. If you live there you have my sympathy. My wife comes from there so every so often I am compelled to visit the in-laws. Its a small city that has absolutely nothing going for it other than being a one night stop over on the way to Chiang Mai. You also mention Tops there. In Chiang Mai we have 7-11 bigger than that Tops.

  13. Going from the airport to the city on Mahidol road. On the west side of the road just past Chiang Mai construction and Micro music. If you see the post office you have gone by it. This guy is very popular often see Harleys and large Hondas there. He speaks English. He appears to be open from 10am until 10pm

    Never seen that one.

    Is that opposite Pipat?

    Anyway very popular is Pipat

Go from SW corner of moat towards airport plaza. Past the oranges on the left (east) side, probably the half way on the straight road, is a long row of shophouses. On the corner of a soi is his shop, I think it it shows some yellow. Thiank just before the soi thay sell push bikes.

Excellent English, bit pricey but reliable if a bit popular.

    Pipat 0816414496

The one I am talking about is directly across the street from the orange sellers.
