  1. Going from the airport to the city on Mahidol road. On the west side of the road just past Chiang Mai construction and Micro music. If you see the post office you have gone by it. This guy is very popular often see Harleys and large Hondas there. He speaks English. He appears to be open from 10am until 10pm

  2. I've ordered many times from iherb without any problems and I've only been taxed twice out of 9 shipments using standard mail, (450 baht tax each time)

Recently they have been having problems with customs and they will not ship express delivery to Thailand by DHL as customs are refusing entry of their products

But, they have still been shipping to Thailand by standard mail, without tracking or refunds, but my last order has yet to arrive and is nearly 2 weeks past its expected arrival date

Maybe my order has just gone missing, or maybe customs are now stopping all orders, who knows!

If you are going to order with them, maybe just try a small order first time, and if you order arrives please post back on here as they are a great company, with good quality products and service!

Would you mind keeping us informed about your current order. Would like to order from them but will wait until I see how you make out.

  3. Oh, and welcome to Thaivisa. Where asking about houses and kitchens results in replies calling you paranoid, and accusing Thailand of being Third World and expressing doubt as to you having got what it takes to come over in the first place, all in the very same fiiiine reply. thumbsup.gif

(Wouldn't have it any other way. We're all mad here, said the Cheshire buffalo, grinning ear to ear.)

Yes I am a real looney tunes. But heck we can't all be perfect.

  4. You can buy counter top electric burners here. But reading your post here and what you said on the dengue fever thread, you appear to be a very paranoid person. Thailand is still a 3rd world country so you have to expect that most things will be very different from where you currently live. Have you ever visited this country to get a feel for if you will like it or not?

What ever it this thread do you deem "paranoid"? There's nothing "paranoid" about looking into things like Dengue fever. It's like getting vaccinations before traveling - it's generally not concidered "paranoid".

I don't even want to comment on your other nonsense. You seem like a very judgemental, strange person.

I did not suggest that you were paranoid because of your looking into dengue fever. It was more to do with your statement about not liking to cook with gas. As I have obviously offended you I would like to apologize publicly for my statement

Thailand is far from being a 3rd World country. That is a ridiculous statement.

@ the OP. Plenty of houses in CM have western-style kitchens. eg: Siwalee/Land & House/Urbana moobans - some better than others and most with extraction fans or rangehood.

We found a nice 4 y/o 2-bed/2-bath rental house on 400 sq/m for 10k/month in a quiet, leafy mooban just 5 mins from Airport and have a 3m x 3.6m Western kitchen. Similar rental homes in our area are ~ 15k average price and fully furnished.

    BWT5b10b.JPG

Wall/glass mount extraction fans cost ~ 1,000 baht + install. 9k BTU a/c units from ~14,000 baht installed.

Urbana2 rental townhouse might suit short-term whilst looking around for something better.

" Thailand is far from being a 3rd world country. That is a ridiculous statement". May I suggest that you google Thailand 3rd world country and read many of the articles. I believe you will find that Thailand is considered to be a 3rd world country.

  6. I know for a fact that Rimping Nim city has frozen turkey breast. Bought one 2 weeks ago.

more updates on the turkey hunt -

Northern Farms (Huai Kaeo Road) - only in November-December

Tesco-Lotus (Chiang Mai - Hang Dong Road) - only in November-December

Big C Hang Dong - only in November-December

    (sigh!)

When I went to Rimping Nim City yesterday looking for the cheese from another thread. Had a look for the frozen turkey breast but they were all gone. But I did find pheasant which I have never noticed there before. We picked up 2 and they were an average of 725 bahts each.

  8. Please correct me if I am wrong. But it is my belief that Australian beef is grass fed. Whereas I know that North American beef is grain fed. To me Australian beef tastes like shoe leather compared to North American beef.

I've never heard of this place would you mind giving an address and one of your famous street views.

  10. Three posts have mentioned Mainland cheese. I went back again to Rimping Nim City. Still couldn't find it and I looked in all 3 areas where they keep cheese. Which Rimping can I find it in and are there any other shops that keep it?

I buy my Mainland in BIg C. They've got three grades with the 'Vintage' being the strongest and tastiest, 250 g for 175 Baht, the other two being 165 Baht for the same weight. Haven't yet seen this new 'Epicure' yet though but would imagine it will show up before long.

12 Month Mainland is selling on special at Woolies in OZ for $5.95 a kilo. Not great but OK - I got 3k. Normal price is $10/k for this age. 36month is about 15$/k. So CM prices are higher but I think still worth it in view of how hard it is to get good cheese in CM at an ok price.

After you have lived here long enough cheese that tastes like crap back home starts to taste good.

  11. I've used Phitsanulok also in the past. I agree they are friendly and helpful. But also consider that when you go to immigration chances are that you will be the only one there. Compare that with Chiang Mai where you will be one of a hundred or more waiting. If I worked for immigration in CM I think I would find it very difficult to be friendly and helpful.

  13. As you know Thailand is a very hot country. Now if you have a house do you really want to cook inside and raise the already high temperature of the kitchen. Maybe you could consider doing what most Thais and many farangs do. Cook outside.

Depending on the BTU's of the air conditioner you could expect to pay between 17,000 and 25,000 bahts installed. This would be for an average sized room. As to what brand of air conditioner is best. You will get 100 different answers to that question. You can go for the cheapest or you can go for the most expensive. The choice is yours to make.

  14. I was at Rimping Nim city this morning looking at cheddar but the only thing I noticed was local sharp cheddar. In Canada I used to buy extra old cheddar 6 and 7 years old. 6 year old was $6.50 ( 210 bahts) for 454 grams. I also like dutch gouda with fine herbs but haven't been able to find it here.

  15. It is true that people do built up certain natural resistance over time, but food poisoning is food poisoning. The phrase "deli belly" is a fun new one for me. There is Montezuma's Revenge in Mexico, etc. What would be the equivalent here: "Street s**ts?" There has to be something less crude and more evocative of the local scene.

there is something less crude in Thailand. They call it Bangkok belly.

  16. And, cynically speaking, if anything were done to remedy the situation, it would most likely return to the prior condition after a week or so at most.

Next time you're at Sripaht on the 13th floor of the Suan Dawk medical complex, check out the fire escapes there if you want a scare. The last time I looked there were locked doors plus loads of visible junk stored in the stairwell. And, I only wonder if the back stairs are navigable down all the way to the ground floor and, of course, out of the building.

Well that's another check mark on the good side for the Ram.

  17. Its all a matter of education. People do what they are taught to do. How many restaurants do you think use hot water to wash the dishes. How many Thai type restaurants actually have a refrigerator to store meat in. I remember years ago when my wife first came to Canada she thought it was crazy that supermarkets kept eggs in refrigerated section. You would never find a supermarket in the U.S. or Canada that left meat products out on a counter for you to pick and choose what you wanted..
