  2. OK , read this and guess where it talking about , and for once its NOT Thailand but its near by...

Foreign visitors to xxxxxxxx soon tire of paying over the mark-up for everything

As any visitor to xxxxxxx soon discovers, there is currently a two-tier pricing system differentiated for foreigners and locals which resides inside the minds of many vendors.

Foreigners when asked whether such negative experiences would influence their decision to return to xxxxxx, they said undoubtedly it would. :o

  3. All in All I think a dedicated section to what must be one of the most posted topics here , sounds a good Idea at least you will not have to trawl through all the posts to may be find a snippet of information or comment that may in some way help you out, It may be boring but at least you will be able to find same topic posts all in one place.

  4. Hi, Upcountry

Interesting story , I also have a Powermatic PCM UPS ( Model Imperial Series IMD-525AP ) and Upsmon power management software , which ive been running for Two years now and in the last few day's ive changed the internal battery ( 700 Baht ) I also now use an AVR unit to supply the UPS as my house voltage fluctuates on a daily basis, which was causing the UPS to be constantly switching every few minuets, now the AVR supply's the USP , the UPS constant switching has stopped .

My next thing is to install a second external USP battery in parallel l to increase the length of the USP backup time , Ive as yet never left the house with the computer running so Ive never seen just what happens in this situation, I all way's thought that if the power was cut to the USP, it would automatically shut down the computer and then turn its self off, if thats so I wonder why your switched off UPS has burnt out ..?, and as you say it happened a second time when you turned off the circuit breaker by mistake , should the UPS on detecting you turned it manually off ( as a power cut )it would then ,give a warning signal and then just go through the routine of a shutdown procedure by its self, I wonder why it would burn out by only manually turning off of the circuit breaker.

If the problem does lie with a possible overwhelmed circuit breaker may be supplying the UPS with a AVR may do the trick, my house voltage fluctuates from the lowest ive recorded which is 124 Volts to the highest of 312 Volts and the AVR has been coping with this voltage difference OK

  5. I have a bank account with Bangkok Bank in Korat, the last time I as in there I asked about being able to access my account by internet, The customer services guy ask me what type of account I held ( normal savings ) what type of visa I held ( Non ‘’O’’ ) do I have my bank account pass book with me ( yes ) do I have my passport with me ( yes ) he said sit down, showed me a form for internet banking access, explained what things meant, I signed it , he told me I would receive a letter in the post to my house, with a copy of the approved internet application, and then one week later I would receive my internet banking access code, Which I did along with some free internet access time and ive been using it ever since.

  6. I have a PC connected to the internet via a TOT land line dial up connection, and now I am thinking of buying my daughter a PC, so here’s my question..

Is it possible to connect Two computers to the internet using dial up connections

on the same land line and have the Two computers being able to use the internet

    at the same time ..?

    Thanks

  7. Well after looking around I found the Tap – Change AVR Units for sale at the IT Mall , they were priced at..

    Mode.. TCA-1200 ( 600 Wat) 1,300 Baht

    TCA-2000 (1000Wat) 1,750 Baht

So I bought a TCA-2000 , its been in use now a few days supplying power to my UPS and up to now its worked OK, my UPS has stopped clicking and the UPS Voltage readout software shows less voltage fluctuations Ive had a Volt meter connected to the same wall socket out let supplying the AVR just to see what the voltage was supplying the AVR , and the voltage has been as low as 180 Volts and up to 224 Volts . so all in all I’m pleased with this unit .

  8. Well Crossy to answer your question ....... The big question, how much is it?

Just spoke to the company in Bangkok and the sales girl said the Model .. TCA-1200 ( 1200VA )

is priced at ... 1,800 Baht and available from most IT Mall's , so I'm off to the local IT Mall to have a look

to be honest not too sure about the price quoted so will report back..

  9. Well ive looked around our local electrical shops explained what I’m looking for and got a blank stare back, so its off to a bigger Town for another look , just one thing have I got this right, to day my house mains voltage went down to 167 Volts for about 15 minuets and my UPS sounded the alarm so I shut down the computer , If I were to have a AVR plugged into a house mains socket outlet and then take my USP power feed from the output on the AVR , when my house voltage fall again to 167 Volts , the AVR will compensate for the low voltage and supply the UPS with 220Volts ..?, if saying my house voltage drops to 167 Volts and stays at this voltage for a longer period , say 2 Hours , do you think an AVR would supply the UPS with the correct 220 Volts for this length of time..?

    Thanks

  11. Hi Crossy

Thanks for your reply, well it looks as if may be I need to look for as you say , an AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator)

Ive don't think ive ever seen one for sale here , when looking around the Computer IT Mall's , have you seen them here for sale , any idea of the price .. sorry about the hand holding :o

  12. paulfr..

Thanks for your reply, my UPS normally only keeps the computer running for about Five minuets before it shuts the computer down, the current UPS is rated at 525VA, so would a larger rated UPS say one rated at 1000VA keep the computer from shutting down longer..? and do you know the VA to Time scale ..EG 525VA = 5 minuets stand by time before shutting down.

I also here seem to have a lot of spikes showing up on my USP control panel .... not too sure what that means, and ive had the voltage tested at the house meter just in case the voltage fluctuation problem was due to some thing on the house consumer board.

  13. Interesting subject , but can some one translate it into non technical speak please.. I have my PC connected to a uninterruptible power supply with a stabilizer

Made by powercom, 525VA, purchased here in Thailand , my house voltage fluctuates on a daily basis , the highest ive ever seen the voltage is 232 Volts and the lowest its been down to is 124 volts , my UPS is constantly clicking away and may be once a day it automatically Shuts down my computer . I was thinking of going to the local Electricity office To report the problem, ( show them my UPS print out records ) and ask them what they can do .?, Two questions …

Has any one who experienced this kind of voltage fluctuations been successful

In getting the electricity office to sort things out..?

Is there any thing I can do to help this situation with my UPS clicking away

All day..? can I buy a larger / better type of unit , would this help at all..?

    Any other comments welcome …

  14. Can there really be large numbers of Thai internet users who suffer the daily problems and frustrations as much as Farangs do, with the poor services being offered here in Thailand, and they sit just at their computers day in day out putting up with all the crap thats being served up . And as some one pointed out there are forums full of un happy Thai internet users all moaning like farangs do . Does any one think there will come a day when the providers of Internet services will take note of their own country men and God forbid offer real service and good value for once

while I am ranting on , When looking at the Bangkok Post Database supplement , I just read with total amazement some of the constant weekly articles about how Thailand is a Hub for this new technological system, and has just implemented this new communication net work, or how this new wonderful high speed system will do this, and how you can download this new application , or run your business world wide on this new Hub in Thailand .. come on guy's smell the coffee in the real Thailand

super high way kitchen ... offer a real decent internet service for Mr joe public and Mr Somchai and then lets start to talk Hubs.

    ranting over ... :o
