  1. Thailand is so corrupt it almost doesn't matter who issues what to who.. eventually where money is involved minds will be swayed to except a little brown envelope at the end of the month.

Until all costs of services are standardised and made public knowledge, prominently advertised at the offices involved with a hotline for those people ripped off to report corrupt officials for asking for more money then it will continue, also payments should be made by bank/card type transactions, anywhere where cash is involved trouble will not be far away.

But I know this is Thailand & nothing will change the graft culture.

  2. Thailand will do what Thailand does best.. in the face of international pressure it will appear to cooperate & hold an investigation, of course it will find nothing wrong and therefore nobody accountable.. business as usual will continue !!

As for putting a fox in the chicken coup for the world to witness is fine, but what the world doesn't see is that it's teeth have been pulled prior to being let loose !!

  3. The following day, the man came into her room again and forced her to have sex with him. When she told her parents, they asked the man to come over and then offered her as his bride for 2,000 baht.

The man and his relatives protested that he had done nothing wrong. They said that there were other men in the village who had married and lived with girls who were 12 or 13 years old..

Two statements that worry me very much about Thai society: I wonder what the "Buddhist" belief say's about this sort of practice ??

I find it very sick that a modern so called emerging society not only lets this sort of practice continue, but actually thinks it's exceptable if the price is right.

Ignorant parents who think this is fine should be sterilised, and perpetrators of child rape should be put to sleep.

I thought Thailand had signed up to the "Bill of human rights" what happened to the young girls rights ?????????????

  4. Naruemon Tarndamrong, Advisor to the Minister of Labor, on Sunday presided over a caravan rally of almost 100 vehicles, campaigning against human trafficking and illegal narcotics.

Rallies don't stop anything (except traffic) legislation & prosecution is the best weapon, but as post #3 say's.. who is going to put themselves in jail.

The whole Thai culture is based on maximum profit for minimum expenditure.

This will only end when the threats of "Tier 3" become a reality instead of an idle threat.

  5. Article 37 prohibits the airing of programmes with content within the frame of overthrowing the country's democracy; or affecting national security, order or people's morality; or within the frame of obscenity or seriously affecting people's minds and health.

But you can take a walk any day or night through certain areas of Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket, Samui, Chiang Mai etc etc & watch all of this going on for real, not even actors but real people.. it's never banned..

just you can't watch it on TV !!

    T.I.T

  6. Maybe the content of these final episodes was getting a bit too close to the truth for the government to handle, it might have installed an element in the minds of the viewing public of what the corrupt people in high places could be up to..

Of course the final word to delete all the dodgy stuff & incorporate 3 episodes into one came from the production director & not from the corridors of governmental interference.

I wonder if future postings on said facebook page from a friend of a friend might share a bit more info ..

  7. Thailand shooting: how could my son's life be taken so recklessly?

Come to Thailand & see for yourself.. it's happening almost daily... read the daily posts !!

Thailand is not the same as the glossy "Land of smiles" brochures depict by the Thai tourist minister, scratch away a bit and under the surface you will quickly find & fully understand it's a lawless society with immense social problems !!

    Condolences to the family..

Free advice to all other's: if your seeking adventure then Thailand is your ultimate destination.. maybe your last !!

If you like freedom & adventure but not risk death then head elsewhere !!

  8. If the events did indeed occur as described (and I have no reason to think that they did not), it is a horrible, shameful event and the perpetrators should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Shirt color or political affiliation is irrelevant.

That'll amount to about Bt200 fine & a smack on the wrist then.. ohh as their "red's" probably 6 months to pay the fine off in installments.

  9. Officials from the Disease Control Department have inspected 271 venues since Thursday and taken legal action against 53 of them for selling alcoholic drinks in prohibited places, including public parks, petrol stations, pharmacies and government offices.

Government offices breaking the law tut tut, maybe they didn't get the memo from above !!

If my maths is correct out of 271 venues checked so far, 53 were found to be offending, this equates to 19.5% (on average)

this is not something I would boast about as being a success story !!

  10. Quote:

"At this juncture, the government-appointed working group is conducting a review before recommending a best option on how to amend the charter," she said

The problem at the moment facing this farce is not the best option on how to amend the current charter as Yingluk states.. it's on what is to be amended that people are waiting for.

If the government actually came out and stated the individual articles that were to be dropped or amended & what are the new articles to be included then people could make the necessary judgments in whichever fashion was best suited, a referendum or other means.
