  1. Before jumping to catastrophic conclusions about the risks associated with this disease and fueling overreaction, it might be wise to check out the information currently provided by reputable health authorities. This would be a good start:

    http://www.who.int/csr/disease/coronavirus_infections/faq/en/

With a mortality rate of 40% I for one hope to god it never enters Thailand...

If' you've ever spent any time in a hospital for normal Thai people the chances of spreading infection with non-existant isolation practices are worrying to say the least

  2. Hilarious ! The RTP are the best comedy show in Thailand.

In Australia the radio stations regularly announce where the speed cameras and radar traps are.

As they did in my local town in England,

where the speed trap was open & visable then fair play, but when Mr Plod was hiding behind bushes to catch you out the radio stations helped out a little, except they used the term "police safety camera" haha

  3. Absolutely clueless. It continues because there are no consequences for those caught other than a slap on the wrist.

Large fine, jail time for repeat offenders and crush the bikes of those caught..........solved.

Totally agree, take away their motorcycles & crush them if convicted of street racing... eventually when they don't have any wheels to go out on the message will sink in !!

  4. Go to Level 4 (departures) and take a taxi that's dropping someone off. No surcharge and the guys are (usually) happy to use the meter. Win-win.

Yes.. I've done that a few times too... the taxi drivers are more that accommodating to take you into town...

Think with your brain & vote with your feet !!

  5. They should do what KL did with the underground flood tunnels that when not in use for that double as traffic routes easing congestion on the roads.

Impossible. KL is on average just under 22m above sea level. Bangkok is on average 1.5 m above sea level with sections at or below sea level.

KL and Bangkok have very different soil characteristics. Bangkok was a natural wetland/swamp that was built over. It has a layer of clay over water. Not the best soil for drainage properties or supporting structures without risk of subsidence.

KL had a strong base of limestone for 1/2 the city and much of the key business areas and sedimentary rock and sand in the Kenny Hills formation. Your tunnel proposal makes use of two holding ponds and they are an integral part of the flood diversion plan because the water has to be held somewhere and then slowly drained. There is nowhere to build drainage ponds in Bangkok. As well, the elevation of Bangkok would preclude the natural elevation drainage method of KL.

The people of Bangkok need to understand that they are living in a place where they do not belong. The swamp land was reclaimed centuries ago for farming use. The structures and drainage was built for farming, not high density urban living. There is no way to save Bangkok unless large portions of the city are given up to build proper drainage and protection structures. None of the land owners will ever agree to that. It's easier to blame the governor than to accept that Bangkok is several million people too large. In 50 years, as the city floods worsen maybe the people will get it. By then the BMA will hold 15-20 million people and they will have to go somewhere.

At last someone talking some sense for once instead of just posting nonsense... there is plenty of internet material on BKK being built on a swamp...

no amount of drains can sort out the problem... as sea levels rise & rainfall increases so will BKK's woes..

People living in the lower elevations had better start looking for somewhere else to live or put up with the queues everyday, at least until it becomes perpetually flooded then it will be go to work on a jet-ski time !!

  6. Must have been "contagious" I was travelling from Cha am back towards Ratchaburi direction around the same time.
On a main road similar to the one in the post a "10 wheeler" was belly up in the central ditch with a few trees scattered around... only just happened as the occupants were still getting themselves together.. caused hold-ups in either direction as trees and debris/earth etc was all over the road.

  7. Perhaps now the "Reds" can see that there is life after Thaksin/Yingluk and actually it's not all that bad >>>

Maybe they got wise at last, instead of being used as "foot soldiers" and being given scraps from the masters table.

Living in relative peace & being able to turn a few baht over themselves in the new climate of steady growth domestically & internationally.

Thaksin could only reign when the country was in turmoil, making himself out to be some sort of Saviour of the poor... maybe now they can see that it was in fact him ripping them off & keeping them poor!!

  8. Ahh yes. Get him into a military court where his friends will do their utmost to keep one of their own from being convicted.

If Thailand's military keeps protecting this man, the General may never see his country move up from tier 3 status and just might be around to see economic sanctions applied. China and Russia won't buy enough to replace the EU and North American markets Thailand will be blocked from.

Maybe it would be the best place to convict him of his crimes... and not get away with it..

Prayut would have to be true to his word that anyone found linked to this crime would be punished !!

As for letting him out on bail... that would be a bigger crime than the one he committed !!

  9. Perhaps if Thailand sent their fishing boats directly to Myanmar to pick-up the migrants & employ them as fishermen, it would solve many issues.
Myanmar would shift quite a few un-recognised people from squatting on their soil,

Thailand would have guaranteed fully crewed fishing boats (as before)

crew could even have false paperwork/contracts to make them legal.

When crew members are finished with they would be dropped off in Indonesia... somewhere !!

    Problem.. what problem !

  10. "The first criteria details seven serious offences and the second explains whether such offence or misbehaviour will damage the reputation of the organisation, or is considered a dishonour to remain in the police rank, he said."

So doesn't being a convicted fugitive on the run fall into any of these categories ie. dishonoring the police force??? Or do they consider a fugitive on the run as standard operating procedure for a person to hold police ranking?

Please do remember this is Thailand.. normal rules do not apply !!

This was not an unexpected outcome in a country where taking action against someone "up the tree" can have very severe consequences !!
