  1. "It's not too difficult. Everybody knows about the work (needed) on transportation, as all people have experience of it. They cannot go anywhere unless there is transportation," he said.

    So, how about:

    1. Some specific action to reign in the cowboy reckless minivan drivers who still drive very dangerously.

    2. Some organization of bus stops on country roads so that passengers don't have to run across very busy freeways and stand in the midst of busy traffic: trucks, vans, cars, and in the rain, to wait for the bus.

    3. The utter chaos behind Morchit bus station with hundreds, at times thousands of arrived passengers trying to get home.

#2 and #3 should have been fixed 30 years ago.

What your asking for is what would be a natural progression in a normal country.. but T.I.T

  2. Forest fires are the biggest problem. Action has to be taken at village level: hold the village head responsible. Reward a village that had no forest fires and punish a village that did not prevent forest fires. Forbid villagers to graze cattle in the forests if there are forest fires. I wonder if the politicians will have the courage to do 'something'.

So the village head tells all his residents no fires or I will break your legs.. he gets a reward for complying with the directive & shares it not with the village but his family ??

  3. Quote:

"Many others are capable, knowledgeable and very smart. Cabinet reshuffling is the circulation of capable people to work for the country. Although others were not appointed a minister this time, they can wait for the next opportunity," he said in a message to those failing to get a post, including red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan and his supporters.

In other words: Pee on the fire my toasts done !!

When did capability ever enter an equasion when you have friends in high places??

  4. Why not have a fair vote and the losers vow to not riot or use the Army to nullify the outcome.

Yes I would agree to that if the voting was FAIR.. & impartial

but we all know from past experience that vote buying is rampant & the red lemmings too brainless to think for themselves.

Sore losers always dredge up the vote buying issue. It's no secret that both sides do it.

You do know the Army and Democrats were against international election observers?

I would think the side that keeps on losing elections, then complains would welcome scrutiny at the polls.

Face it, the ruling class is outnumbered and going extinct.

The majority of Thais have made it very clear who they want as PM.

Yes I agree both sides do buy votes, this time around Thaksin had the upper hand with his Red army of lemmings, & yes I believe he would buy a landslide just so that it was guaranteed.

The majority of bought off Thais showed that they wished to have Yingluk as PM

The rest didn't choose to show support for the democrats as is their free choice, but now they are paying the penalty.

The only thing going extinct if the PTP stay in power for the full term is Thailand !!

  5. As the old adage goes:

You can fool some of the people all of the time

you can fool all the of people some of the time

but you can't fool all the people all of the time !!

The rice pledging scheme has from the very start been a means of corruption for the few "big" men with very little filtering down to the intended poor farmers. If the government was really sincere in helping them, then there were other more direct ways to pass on payments for their crops.

Putting the money in the hands of officials & middle men to officiate as we all know will only have one outcome.

To continue this scheme would be madness, but then again another couple of sayings come to mind..

Give them enough rope & they'll hang themselves.

    Patience is a virtue..

  6. At long last, the seeds of discontent are starting to grow in numbers.

I hope they grow & have a good harvest, if as good as the rice crop then the government will be in trouble.

Are you hoping for more riots, airport seizures, military coups, corrupt political courts so the democrats can get back in?

I know they can't win an election but that is too extreme for me.

No I don't wish for any of the above as you state, if it takes a change in government to make the changes needed then so be it, if however this ruling party get the message that enough is enough it's now time to start working for the people then a wake up call is good enough for me.

  7. I bought a Rolex in BKK a few years ago, looked great and ran good, for about six months. Then it quit running and everything rattled around inside it. 2,000 baht dosen't go as far as it use to.

2000baht for a "Bangkok benny" you were done up like a kipper !

Last year I watched as a German haggled with a night time watch seller at his table in a restaurant, it got as low as 600 baht & the German was insisting that the guy was kosher !

I was trying to keep my mouth shut & not to laugh out loud, so much so noodles were coming out of my nose & ears !!

  8. My thought's exactly.

Thailand now has a major problem of rice mountains & no where to sell it off at a profit, Thaksin's idea of buying it from the farmers at a slightly inflated price, sit on it for a bit until the market is crying out because of the shortfall, then sell it at a higher price to recoup the money has fallen flat.

Other nations have made up for the lack of Thai rice in the market & made all the money, the price hasn't risen as expected & the the Thai government has to take the fall.

But now they wish to strike a deal with Vietnam to try to lesson the damage.. either by off-setting the loss with other trade deals or by joining hands with Thailand in price fixing rice prices..

  9. Thai society in the main has been subjected to corruption in one form or another since the beginning of time, I firmly believe that at certain levels the understanding is that it's not even seen as corruption but that of an elitist system akin to "caste system" as in India.

When you reach a certain level of status you are not only expected to behave in this manner but you are also immune from persecution or even prosecution, you become the privileged few.

The post say's that a high percentage of Thais are not worried about these forms of corruption in the same way as it is chastised & stamped out in other parts of the world, this is due to years & years of desensitisation.

Thailand is years behind other more democratically controlled countries & has not yet formed the true transparency that say Europe enjoys, I'm not saying they are by any means innocent, they have faults, fraud, corruption but when found it is generally dealt with publicly so the public can see justice has been served, and that no one or company is above the law.

Thai society has a lot of hurdles to climb over to get to this level, so it should not come as any surprise that at the moment what we see as intolerable actions by some are generally excepted by the Thai public.

They have to make the transition between desensitisation & sensitive.

  10. As a pro-active health measure I'm sure the government can ban the sale of all the offending items.. but will loose out heavily on the revenue.

Promote healthy drinks at a sensible price that consumers will pay.

But I can't see that happening any time soon.

Off topic slightly.. but to prove my point..

I watched a program the other day about sales of Pepsi in mexico, the president of the country is a major shareholder in the company & vigorously promotes the sale of it, even babies are taken off breast milk & given carbonated drinks from their baby bottles as a milk substitute starting from as young as a few months !

Even schools are given free Pepsi by the company to hand out to children & adults, especially at events such as competitions & sports day !!

Needles to say now after a few years the country has an obesity level of well over 50% all with health related illnesses, hospitals now cannot cope with the surge in patients & is about to crash.

  11. I know a local cop, just a motorcycle guy in the mornings doing his school corner duty, then the usual traffic duty for an hour to get the funds up, his wife does not work.

However they live in a large newly built house worth 5 million, landscaped garden front & rear, he has a new Mitsubishi sport cruiser, she has a new Honda Jazz, he has a Harley which comes out to play on Sunday's she has a Scoopy.

The only child of about 6yrs old has all the toy's you can imagine, a playground in the back garden resplendent with swing, slide, merry go round etc even a radio controlled helicopter which is not a toy by any stretch of the imagination.

Many times they have garden parties with friends around, all equally comfortable judging by the vehicles they arrive in, but I guess I may be judging him harshly & he too just has good luck with rich parents or relatives who (we've never seen)

  12. Surely a building regulation put in place to stop indiscriminate development would be better.

To build or increase the size of any development requires a building certificate issued by the local planning department.

Without any such certificate it is illegal & will be destroyed if found.

Issue a nationwide hotline with a reward for any information leading to the finding of illegal developments & that will help along the investigation.
