  2. KHMER MOM BEATS AND ABUSES FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTER; FORCES HER TO BEG FOR MONEY

    post-15964-1192711498_thumb.jpg

    A Khmer mother was arrested and charged with child abuse for forcing her four year old daughter to beg in the streets at night time.

    On 18 October 2007, at 1 AM, Pattaya Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi Chai-niranam received a phone call, from a tourist, that a foreign woman had abused and beaten up her own daughter and forced her to sell chewing gum and beg for money around the beer bars on Soi Bua Khao and Diana Inn Beer Bar Group, Moo 9, Nongprue. Police Lieutenant Colonel Grit Larb-ithisan rushed to the area to investigate.

    Officials encountered a young Khmer girl named “Bo” (alias), about four years old, who was crying and being consoled by a tourist. The young girl had many bruises on her arms and legs. Bo said that her mother had taken her from their country and snuck into Thailand. They came to Pattaya to beg in order to pay off debts. Her mother, apparently, has done this for many years.

    Everyday, her mother left her near beer bars and she was expected to beg for money from tourists and sell chewing gum. Each day, she made from five hundred to one thousand baht. Her mother left a mobile phone, which she hung around her neck, and called her to check how much money she had made. She came and picked her up every night. Bo’s mom kept all the money that Bo made. If Bo refused to go out begging, she was beaten up, unmercifully.

    Bar girls often scolded Bo because she disturbed the tourists. On this particular night, she was left near a beer bar again, but hadn’t made enough money as she was afraid of the police. However, her mother called and bullied her to make more money. She also showed up and started beating her up. At this point, bystanders, who were appalled by what they witnessed, called the police; but her mother had disappeared by the time they arrived.

    While the police were interviewing the young girl, Bo, they noticed a woman standing nearby looking at her. Bo pointed to the woman and indicated that she was her mother. The police immediately detained the woman who was, apparently, Bo’s mother. She gave her name as Miss Yung (31), from Cambodia, but was unable to produce a passport. She said that she has been sneaking into Thailand for more than three years. She said that she did not abuse her daughter, but just wanted her daughter to assist her in making money so she could get out of debt. As for the bruises on her body, they were just a result of normal punishments as she had been a naughty girl. However, police weren’t buying this and took Miss Yung to the police station.

    At the police station, Miss Yung admitted that she forced her daughter to sell chewing gum and beg for money from tourists. She would normally make one thousand to two thousand baht per day; but, as it was low season, she was only bringing home about five hundred baht, daily. Therefore, she had forced her daughter to sell chewing gum and beg in the vicinity of the beer bars. Only when the bars closed, could “Bo,” finally, go back home. If she didn’t earn enough money, she was beaten up as punishment.

    The officials gave Miss Young a stern talking to and charged her under the Alien Act. She was charged with entering Thailand illegally. Young “Bo” was, temporarily, sent to the Youth and Child Rights Protection of Pra-Mahatai Foster Home and will be sent back to Miss Yung before they are deported from Thailand.

  4. Alcohol may encourage aggression or violence by disrupting normal brain function. According to the disinhibition hypothesis, for example, alcohol weakens brain mechanisms that normally restrain impulsive behaviors, including inappropriate aggression.

  5. A Margarita recipe :o

    Pizza Margarita

    For the dough:

    * 11/3 cups warm water (105° to 115°)

    * 1 pinch sugar

    * 21/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 package)

    * 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

    * 1 teaspoon salt

    * 3 to 4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour

    For the topping:

    * 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes

    * 1 pound fresh mozzarella, sliced thinly

    * extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling

    * salt

    * fresh basil

    Mix the sugar into the water and add the yeast. Stir once and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Mix olive oil and salt into yeast mixture and begin adding flour a little bit at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon. When it becomes too thick for the spoon, mix with your hands. Add flour until you have a soft, but not sticky, dough. Knead dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes. Coat the inside of a mixing bowl with olive oil and place the dough ball inside, flipping it so that its entire surface gets oiled. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in size, 1 to 2 hours. Punch to deflate dough, turn it out onto a countertop and divide it into the number of pizzas you wish to make. Knead each small piece until smooth and uniform and allow to rest for 20 minutes under a dish towel before shaping. Preheat the oven to 500°. Simmer tomatoes over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Shape each dough piece into a 1/4-inch-thick round and place on a cornmeal-covered baking sheet without sides. Put a thin layer of tomato and mozzarella on each round of pizza dough and sprinkle with olive oil and salt. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the crust is golden. Tear the fresh basil onto the pizza and serve immediately. Makes 2 12-inch or 3 9-inch pizzas.

    Yeah it`s a very busy Soi.....and the speed of the traffic is something else...if walking walk on the right and keep looking over your shoulder for the very fast ones. :o

  8. Seems that Colpyat is from Switzerland!

    No - fortunately not!

    If i would be, i guess i would be there right now trying to fight Blocher's SVP fascists.

    ColPyat, as a Swiss I just could not resist. Who told you that man is a fascist?

    I am very proud to be Swiss and I love my homeland very much and I can always return and stay there if I wish to do so.

    Have a good day.

    Nobody needs to tell me this - i can read myself about SVP policies and make up my own mind. He is racist scum, and so are the people who vote for him and his party.

    This post could be deemed just as offensive as the one I had removed. Will it be removed? I doubt it and why should it? All points of view should be shown & let people make their own minds up.

    Firstly I have looked at the post which you made which was subsequently deleted by a moderator and I must say that anyone who makes a post advocating that if boats are sunk that the occupants be left in the sea more than deserves the post to be deleted.

    Secondly discussion of moderation practices in the public forum is not permitted and as such I will be contacting you by PM about this matter.

  9. Thailand`s revered King in hospital for blood clot.

    BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's revered King Bhumibol Aduyadej, the world's longest reigning monarch, was treated in hospital for eight hours on Saturday and a blood clot was found in his leg, the palace announced.

    King Bhumibol, who will be 80 in December, was taken to hospital after complaining of weakness in his right side and tests showed a slight lessening of the blood flow to his brain, the palace said in a short statement read out on television.

    The statement said his leg was better after treatment and did not say whether he had been kept in hospital for observation.

    King Bhumibol has been a powerful force for national unity during a series of military coups and constitutional experiments and is genuinely revered in Thailand.

    In June, the country celebrated his 60th year on the throne.

  11. HI DOES ANYONE KNOW THE LOCATION OR ADDRESS OF PATS PIES IN PATTAYA, WE CANT FIND IT!

    CHEERS

    DAVE

    Hi Dave. If you went up South Pattaya Road from Second Road you will come to Third Road. Turn left along Third Road and Pats is approximately 100 meters on the left hand side. Great food and nice people. :o

  12. Well the topic title seems rather confusing. Pattaya Mail is not the same as Pattaya City News.

    We have heard from Howard and I cannot see any further benefit of leaving this thread to run any longer.

    :o

  13. Whatever anybody’s personal opinion about Howard you have to give him credit for havening the b***s to put himself in the firing line of the forum.

    In my opinion the radio station is better than the majority of radio stations in the UK, good music with the minimal amount of talking crap.

    As for the advertisements, I can appreciate that the variety of commercials is dictated by the amount of sponsors.

    A good point to note would be that 4 of the stations have just been mentioned, so from a sponsor’s point of view it is good advertising.

    This one is for Howard:

    I am relatively uninformed about the characters in within the expat community of Pattaya. Can you enlighten me as to why a lot of people seem to have a beef with Niels Colov?

    Is it just the usual gossiping and so on or is there something more sinister. I’d be interested hear an honest answer. I can also understand if it’s a touchy subject that can’t be mentioned in public.

    All the best……………

    This forum is not about discussing the gossip concerning individuals who are well known personalities in Pattaya. So please don`t go there.

  14. Two little disclaimers, because of the nature of news reporting it are mostly negative things showing up, secondly, the articles are only mentioning the Thai volunteers and NOT the foreign volunteers we are discussing in this thread.

    I asked about an incident back on Post #29 that went unanswered, but I did not identify it specifically as an incident involving foreign police volunteers.....

    so I'll post it here for clarity that that is what it was about. Coupled with the foreign police volunteer undercover sting operation at the Shamrock, it might provide some possible motivations for their service:

    PATTAYA VOLUNTEER POLICE INDULGE IN UZBEK STING OPERATION

    ...The foreign undercover officers made arrangements with the four Uzbek women for sexual services at the Pattaya Inn Hotel, Soi B.J., Walking Street, South Pattaya, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi, Rooms 203, 206 and 207. When the love making sessions were concluded, the prostitutes asked for 2,000 baht each. The undercover representatives gave a total of 8,000 baht to the women, and the police placed them under arrest.

    So they are completely abandoning normal police protocol that is followed anywhere else in the world?

    Devotion to duty? :o

  15. I'm always reading in computer geek articles about how I should use cans of compressed air to clean my PC's, key boards etc.

    Some of these articles are written for readership in Thailand, so i was wondering if anyone had ever come across them for sale here. Maybe in Tuk com?

    Any information will be gratefully received. :o

    Not compressed air but I use a hairdryer on full blast (cold setting) to clean out the buscuit crumbs etc from between the keys. :D
