Question for any Lao experts out there my latest wife is from nong khai born and bred both here parents where born in Laos

Been in Thailand now for 30 odd years tried most things we have 50 rai in surin Provence poor sandy soil have tried pigs ducks chicken farming and have come to the conclusion that if your small time ie just enough to feed your self with my be a few over to trade or sell locally you won't lose or if your massive thousands of head you can make money bit if your just a small farm say 20 30 odd pigs or a couple of thousand chickens then forget it the Market is just too competitive and the Thais can get by on alot less than we do the only thing I made good money on was sheep farming I had over 300 head at one time the Thais couldn't under cut me as they didn't know the first thing about sheep the Market was good as there's normally a shortage of good lamb in Thailand and there's no expensive feed to buy

Changing the thread alittle anyone know any thing about farming meal worms there good protein for pig food ( the Thais probably eat them as well )

I've tried lots of things from England most fail but I have had successes with some supriseing things I grew cherry tree's a couple of peach tree's from seed though no fruit so far and my fig tree I brought in is doing well though it's still in it's pot on my veranda

Veg wise butter scotch go's bonkers loads of fruit I even used to sell it beetroot grew well and my monster pumpkins where the talk of the village my largest was 24 kilo though they rot really quickly in the rainy season most of the other veg I've tried have failed potatoes grew great up to nearly a mt high then flowered so I dug them thinking I would get a good crop only to find nothing underneath but a couple of marble sized tubers I suspect they grew too quick

Hi there thought I had better introduce my self the names Steve I have been living in Thailand on and off for the last 33 years started off in the south of Thailand Surat yala hua hin hat Yai to name a few of the places I've stayed I used to do a bit of teaching on and off just to eak out the money but mostly I used to do 4 or 5 months work in the uk then spend the rest of the year enjoying my self you could do that then in the good old days so anyway to cut a long story short I ended up working at the Cambodian refugee camp in surin Provence around 1988-9 where I met my first wife and 3 wife's and 4 kids later here I still am in surin I've seen your forum for many years and always intended to join but as I didn't have any Internet conection until. Just recently I hav'nt bothered so now I'm here I can give my two penny's worth every now and again and hope to contribute to your forum

Another very good point also instead of banging on about all these so called high class tourists why don't they try to keep the thousands of us who already live here happy instead of doing there best to make it more difficult for us with there visa changes and complicated rules and regulations we must bring into the country millions every year yet we are treated like $hit 10 years ago they did a census there where 1400 + farang living in surin Provence this year there are less than 500 apparently I personly have lost a dozen or more very good friends who have become sick of Thailand and moved on mostly to Cambodia

The reality is the horse has bolted, the massive decline in the middle class in the 1st world has dramatically decrease the pool of 5 star tourists. From now on value for money will be the attraction for tourist, wether they are back packers families or couples and value for money isnt Thailand. The only major advantage Thailand has over other tourist destinations is the redlight tourists attractions, Thailand should play to its strengths and not kill the golden goose.

The people in charge of T A T live in a different world to the ordinary tourists who come to Thailand they keep banging on about improving this and cleaning up the image of this place and that place when will they take there heads out the sand and realise that the majority of tourists who come to Thailand are male and what are they coming for sex cheap booze and a good time if they really want to turn things around and get back to the good old days when you couldn't find an empty seat in the bars of walking street and all the hotel rooms where full every night they need to start putting the fun back they have been shooting them selfs in the foot over and over again these last 10 years with there stupid no alcohol days hassles with visa's and there rules and regulations it's about time they realised what there assets are
