UK Immigration policy.
British Nationality is by birth or by descent. In the former you are eligible for UK passport if born in UK. If you are born overseas to a British National by birth you can claim your citizenship and passport BUT if you have children who are also born overseas they cannot.
UK Nationality Act of 1984 if my memory is correct.

My thoughts exactly. Reminds me of the old RMS Elizabeth which was bought by a HK businessman to be converted into the floating Seawise University; sadly one evening, whilst under renovation, fire broke out simultaneously in several different locations when there was nobody on board!

Thank you, but I thought it was quite mundane not amazing. I was quoting your claim that he was bipolar and that he was homeless and had a record of warnings. Quite easy to suspect he is sixpence short of a shilling (nine bits short of a dollar) from that and act accordingly.

In this case he is a homeless guy with bi-polar disorder that had been ordered off of someones private property on numerous occasions... he was finally arrested after warnings were ignored. Hopefully he will get treated with proper meds and found a residence.
If he's a man with bi-polar disorder then I think that it would have been better to wait for a vehicle to transport him in a secure manner. After all, if he's bi-polar then he is subject to severe mood swings and may be need to be immobilized to prevent harm to himself, others and the horses.

It's really pretty damned simple. If China HK Affairs office said it, then it goes in quotes.
Incorrect -
The HK and Macau affairs office said, "...……." or
The HK and Macau affairs office said that/the …………….
I think Reuters probably have experience in the correct grammatical presentation than we do; and its job is to present the news not to express an opinion unless in an editorial.

Try reading again yourself. It's not in quotes. Do you just hang out here to make pointless and erroneous quibbles? 8800 posts in less than a year and half. What the heck do you do all day?
Radical protesters in Hong Kong must not mistake China’s restraint for weakness, China’s Hong Kong affairs office said on Tuesday, vowing that the “violent criminals” pushing the city towards a “dangerous abyss” would be brought to justice.
Sorry to make a grammatical quibble but all reports are of the comments made by the China HK Affairs office, which said the protesters were radical protesters and violent criminals; Reuters quoted this. When using the phrase someone said something, quotation marks are not necessary; hence this is not Reuter's view but simply a reported statement.

Firstly Anan ordered that all those involved check that the cameras are actually working.
Then they must check that existing cameras are pointing in the right direction and are in appropriate areas.
What about making sure someone is actually watching them?
CCTV usually only records crimes unless you have a hyper efficient security organization with trained personnel watching for suspicious behavior; even then they need a fantastic computer assisted programme to use digital video analytics to help spot potential problems.

Its agony watching English language films and dramas in France. Badly dubbed into French with no subtitles. Pathetic.
I really enjoyed watching an English movie dubbed into German in an Austrian run hotel I stayed in.
It was wonderful to hear the phrase, "Tom, Dick und Harry," in the movie the 'Great Escape".

When an English friend of mine married a Thai woman he was told that she could apply for an entry visa to the UK after they had been married for two years (to show sincerity in the marriage). This was about 20 years ago and they now live in England. I don't know if there were other considerations (finance etc.).
Quite possible, and used as a filter to stop marriages of convenience. I think it was the British Nationality Act of around 1984 that stopped automatic granting of passport to a spouse and requiring a visa to enter and take up residence with that spouse. Recent developments have seen the requirement to show an income that would support both before the visa is granted; the actor who played Mickey Pierce on Only Fools and Horses was featured on here recently as having suffered under this policy.
Basically a Brit who marries a spouse from a non EU country has to jump through hoops, whereas anyone from an EU country can move in with the whole family.

Was it an "informal marriage". I believe wives are given passports. Last May? Surely not 2 months ago. She must be on overstay. How was she picked up? Mostly its because they are caught working. Thai restaurant?
Good news is that deportees are flown out free.
I hope that it's sorted for them but not disappointed that UK is tightening up.
Read the article completely - came to uk last May on 6 month tourist visa, planned to go back to Thailand after. Husband fell ill during that 6 months and she applied for longer term status. Application rejected 3 months later. Detained while reporting to Home Office not working at a Thai restaurant as you claim.
While the Home Office accepted the couple had a “genuine and subsisting” relationship, it said the treatment for Mr Leonardi’s medical condition was available in Thailand, adding: “Even if this was not the case, it is open to [Mr Leonardi] to remain in the UK to receive the medical treatment he needs, while [Ms Leonardi] returns to Thailand to obtain the correct entry clearance.”
Home Office wants him to apply for a Thai visa, with all its attendant paperwork, Imm Dept rigmarole and costs to go and seek medical treatment in a foreign country. Imm Dept here would love that! Alternatively his wife and carer is expected to go back to Thailand and apply for a visa from the British Embassy with nobody there to assist.
Wives of UK nationals are not given passports, that stopped in the early 80's; now they must apply to stay and the couple must show an income of approx. 18k stg per year (hope my recollection is correct).

Well, a million as alleged by the protest leaders, 230k as estimated by the police, who you might think are better equipped to estimate.
Yet again you are selective in what you read and believe. The HKP make estimates based on sections of a crowd passing through an area at a certain point in time and then correlate this to a projected amount; to my best information from sources in HK this is usually well below the actual figure. The Govt would not like the people to think that there is strong public opinion against them! The organisers generally present the more accurate depiction of numbers based on their attempts to marshal and direct.

A couple of hundred thousand safety helmets and gas masks didn't come down with the rain.
Look up NED and Joshua Wong's award ceremony after the Umbrella protests. They aren't even hiding it.
I did look up as you suggested and found the attached quote from Sign Of The Times website.
Worse than mere foreign backing, Wong and his Demosisto political party work ceaselessly to promote the parting demands made by British colonial administrators as Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997. These demands, including upholding the "one country, two systems" and "Basic Law" drafted just ahead of the British handover of Hong Kong, are echoed by the current governments of both the United States and the United Kingdom.
This is a completely skewed and inaccurate comment as the 'one country, two systems; and Basic Law' were not the parting demands of the British colonial administrators; they were the result of extensive negotiation between China and UK several years before the handover. Both were in place well before the handover and agreed to by both sides before being announced on the world stage.
What is wrong with the world asking China to abide by the agreement?

Good advice, but kids tend to think they know best on what is too much or just enough.

Did I read that right? If you have a yellow house book, or you are listed in the blue house book (Permanent Residents), you do not need to file a TM30 if you are returning to that address?
Would be great to get a copy of that announcement/official document in Thai and English.

Pattaya: Thai police arrest eighty year old Brit on sexual assault charges

Freezing of a person's bank account is, in many countries, subject to proof from the authorities that the account holder is laundering money, financing terrorism or that they are the profits from organized crime. These provisions alone have been the subject of huge debate before being enacted into law. The legal rigmarole to create powers as you suggest is far more complicated than using current laws to inform police where the offender lives and getting him shipped back.
The quicker option is to post the offender's address on here and see what happens?!
