  1. how do the get the IMEI number? I was thinking to go somewhere else, call them with my old sim card, then come back and switch for a new one but if there is any risk I will just throw away the mobile phone.

Try entering *#06# on the handset, or look on the box it came in.

When the phone makes a call the handset will declare the SIM card details and the IMEI to the network. It is possible the network will log the association. So don't mix a new sim in the old phone. Keep it all separate.

  2. many calls has been made, now everything is blocked and I can throw the mobile far from here but I guess we are screwed anyway if they can access to the historic

Again, I feel we are in the realms of 007, but if you send it somewhere and you really think they can track it, then they will think you are somewhere else. Put it on a bus to Laos or Hat Hai. Just leave it on!

  3. SDM thanks for your answer

No problem, but to do what I have described they would need serious connections and money. Anyone other than the Police doing it would be breaking the Law.

If you're worried remove the battery and the phone will stop sending a maintenance transmission.

  4. no decision has been made about the custody but Thai law are in favor of the mother. Now we don't want them to know our location anyway, for our own safety. As I said the trial will come in time.

Now could we be back to my question?

    Answered.

  5. AIS will probably not release the information but yes the phone can be tracked, even it is switched off, if the battery is still inside. Although it can only be tracked to the closet masts, by triangulation it is possible to get an approximate fix. Even if you change the SIM it can be tracked if they know the IMEI number of the phone.

In any other country this would require the Police with a Court order.

If you are genuinely worried and think they have the contacts then charge the phone up, put it on silent and either out it on a train or put it in the post to the other end of the country.

Then go and buy a new phone with a new sim and never call any numbers associated with the people you have a problem with. Not them, their friends, or anyone with a connection.

For historic call they can tell which mast was accessed.

  6. Corleone is a rat ?

In fact no, and let me say you have one the the best mafiosa names I have heard for a long time.

The Corleone family name as such doesn't exist and never did. Vito Andolini, the youngest son of an Italian family living in the town of Corleone in Silicily was the youngest and only surviving son of his family when the local mafia Don had his father killed and also his elder brother, fearing a revenge attack when the then teenage boy was older. The Don, who's name escape me, also tried to have the young Vito killed also, but him mum had him smuggled out of the country to the US in the '30's. However Vito couldn't speak any English and only had a paper tag around his neck that said his name and home town. As the immigration officials couldn't speak Italian they listed him as Vito Corleone and he became eventually Don Corleone of the Corleone crime family, otherwise known as The Godfather.

I don't remember a Tony (Anthony probably) Corleone, just Michael, Santiago (aka Sonny) and Fredo (later killed on Michael's orders)

  7. the Windows phone app enables a phone to be located to the nearest cell tower, with a 'google' looking map display on your PC at home

Inferior technology. Blackberry, iPhone, most Android 'phones use GPS tracking co-ordinates to show location to within a few feet. Interestingly enough I heard somewhere, really can't remember where so it might be rubbish, that the GPS satellite network, given to the world by our American cousins, has two systems, one for civilian use and one for military use that missiles etc use to track to their targets. At any time the civilian signals can be switched off and coded military signals continue.

I'm the first to say that this might be total BS, but it would seem to make sense.

Imagine, combining an ICBM in to a lost 'phone app, that would stop the rascals nicking phones, a bit like killing a butterfly with a sledge hammer though ??

  8. Those Android family trackers.....they work both ways, so your GF will know where YOU are too.

The technology behind iPhones is becoming dated and vastly inferior to 'phones like the Samsung Galaxy series and most Android 'phones, both from a software and hardware view point.

For example the inbuilt software on an iPhone/ipad merely allows you to track, erase and lock the device, as with a Blackberry (Protect application). However on all the Galaxy series you can do all of these, plus download a log of recent calls that the phone has made/received. Superior technology, "resistance is futile your culture will adapt to service us" etc etc etc

Incidentally the iPhone software I'm referring to is not "Find friends" but one way tracking using "Find iPhone", in fact all these are native applications and programs included withins the 'phones operating system. Tracking is undetectable from the handset, unless Samsung 'phone logs are being downloaded, then a message will be displayed on the 'phone screen. These applications are security programs intended to be used only by the 'phone owner to track/secure the 'phone if it is stolen. Personally I would love a "self destruct "to be included, I don't want the phone back after it's been in a thief's hands, but I would love to punish them suitably, or to quote my favorite actor to "strike down upon " them "with great vengeance and furious anger"

  9.
It was 40 / 20 or 50 / 30, the nurse noted it and brought it to my attention, she said shock and left it at that, my blood pressure is normally 110 / 80 and is pretty stable.

I think the abnormally low blood pressure maybe a sign of the drug from the drink spiking and hence the reason my falling alseep at the wheel.

    That would do it.

Where do you think you were spiked ? I'm also down there a lot and it would useful to know where.

  10. I've heard that it's possible to loan the money to a Thai "friend" as a mortgage to buy what you want, and then rent the property back from them on a 30 (+30 possibly) year lease... In this way, you have right of abode, and your friend cannot sell without paying you back to discharge the mortgage...

Anyone else know anything about this arrangement?

Yep, seen many like this, and the company route, and a number of other "clever " methods.

Although there are potential pitfalls, I have never come across anyone that had a problem later on, and have never heard of one either.

On the company route it's got to be 51% Thai owned, but I've always suggested something like a 60/40 split since it's less obvious. As long as they don't have voting shares and you do, it doesn't really matter because although you do not have majority ownership, you do have majority control and that is what's important. Use Thais that you know or your lawyer knows as a not so good second option, if the IDs cards have expired and you can't find them when you want to do a transfer it might be a problem.

  11. Go and see the headmaster with the photos and tell him/her that if it ever happens again the police will be called.

Although corporal punishment is illegal in Thailand a smack on the hand with a ruler is quite common. This however is assault. Forget the school because they will all cover each other. Go straight to the Police station and the teacher will be arrested. However, it might make future like for the bit in the school difficult with the other teachers.

Personally I would straight to the cop shop.

  12. Driving whilst drunk can explain the crashing of a car, what it does not explain is falling asleep at the wheel whilst driving a car, nor does the quantity of alcohol I had consumed..........

The nurse mentioned my blood pressure, it was abnormally low on arrival to the hospital , something like 40 over 20.

    Glad you're on the mend.

I think if anything driving when drunk makes many less likely to fall asleep since they are paranoid about being caught by the rozzers and since so many of the bar owners drive smashed over the mountain every night to Kathu you would think this road, normally dangerous anyway, would be littered with wrecks in the morning. If not Patong Hill itself then the roads at the back of Family or the other racetrack, the secret ones or so we think.

Normally falling asleep is the result of extreme tiredness and at home extreme tiredness plus a hot car.

There could be one other explanation. Have you hit the bottom of the car recently, or reversed and smashed the back of the pipe? If so there could have been a crack in the exhaust manifold or one of the boxes. Carbon monoxide is odorless and will certainly make you drowsy and could easily put you to sleep if you were a bit tired anyway. That's why it's such a popular choice for people wanting to top themselves. A nice warm sleep, that they never wake up from.

Are you sure about that blood pressure reading 40/20 is through the floor and normally the first reading would be higher than the second for example a normal reading for someone in their 40's would be around 130/70 with a pulse of around 70. You must have heard it wrong, but it will be on your entry notes. I suffer from occasional low blood pressure myself and if it drops too much you will pass out for sure. Normally a drug, perhaps something like marijuana can cause hypotension (low blood pressure) and you will pass out. Happened to me in Amsterdam, not a pleasant experience. Something like diabetes can also cause your blood pressure levels to fall rapidly and unexpectedly if your sugar levels are too low.

  14. Just take it to the post office. Probably around a couple of thousand.

I've send a Fino up and down the country and last year a Ninja 650. Never a problem and the bikes arrived in perfect order.

Do you have a big letter box ?*

    Regards

    * Sorry a childish quip, but this was the first thing that came to my mind when someone suggested sending a bike through the post. That and how much brown paper it would need, !
  15. I guess it's just the way it is. I only intend to live in it for 4 years and then will probably sell it. Saves renting, which I just see has dead money. If I can get my initial outlay back I'm happy already.

The problem with the 30+30+30 leasehold arrangement commonly referred to as 90 years by my "brother" real estate agents is that in reality it's a 30 years lease (which is the maximum permitted in Law for this type of thing) and two further promises of renewals in 30 and 60 years times. The renewals are usually only relevant because they lend value to the property. For example buyers in my UK agency are very comfortable with the leasehold system as UK Law provides a great of legal protection. A property with a 99 year lease will have greater value then one with say 68. It is not because they plan to own it in 68 years time but it brings the point closer that it will need to be renewed.

Over here in Thailand with my agency here, because (as far as I know) the renewal "promises" have never been tested in Court, we don't know if they would be upheld as technically they circumnavigate the spirit of the Law restricting non-Thai held leases to 30 years. So with that in mind you have have an assured 30 years and if you plan to sell on in 4 years will only be selling on the safe benefit of 26 years.

Personally for this short period I would rent, or buy an apartment/condo registered under the Condominium Act and put it in your name.

  16. At 9am?

Well, most people are in bed with their new friend at that time

This is quite usual, even Jung Ceylon doesn't open until 10.30 (might be 11). Even most holiday makers are in their hotels having breakfast at this time.

Having said all of that it's also pretty quiet in the evening, but it is both Rainy and Low season so shouldn't really be much of a surprise.

    SDM

PS, I'll be out in Patong tonight so at least there'll be one chap. I'm bound to be a very "hansum" man. 5555

PS As a thought does the OP mean 9pm (21:00), that would make more sense to start a thread on the subject of being quiet ?!

  17. Then why ever morning at the American Embassy their are long lines of people who want to come to this country. Answer that. We must be doing something right.

Aren't most of these lines holiday makers who wouldn't be concerned with the political set up. Whatever the US version of democracy is Disney is still fun, (although World is both bigger and better than Land), Vegas is still entertaining, Carmel is still lovely.

Personally I can see why many people in other countries are just a tiny bit bored of US politicians interfering in their country's affairs.

  18. I always drive barefoot, with the flip flops only going on once I reach my destination.  When traveling abroad, I also drive barefoot, I hate driving with shoes on.

    I'm the same.
Once, early in my driving career,I had the strap get caught on the pedal when hitting the brakes. I've always kicked them off after that.

Had exactly the same with some "toe-post" sandals, although clearly no point in me continuing to post as too many are being removed,
