A bit off-topic, because it's not LOS, but here we go.......

A few years ago, a group of 11 of us were stranded for a week in a small village on the west coast of Scotland, having flown in in small aeroplanes. The weather was abysmal and showed no signs of abating, and there was a pressing necessity to return to real life to earn a living.

The owner of the b&b we were staying in also ran the local taxi, which was an mpv taking 10 pax. He was used to doing short local runs, but a trip back to central Scotland,

especially at night, was not something he was used to.

10 of us signed up for the trip, one elected to sit out the weather. The drive was about 2½ hours. After an hour in driving rain, Iain pulled over and said to me, "Ah canny dae it, A'm fa'an asleep. You drive! and I drove the rest of the way.

Totally illegal, as insurance would be invalid, and I don't have an appropriate licence,

but at least we were safe, and no harm done. So far as I know he drove back alone and survived. Nothing was said about it, next time we met.

    I didn't even get a tip!

That happened to me in a taxi from Bangkok to Phetchabun, 370km. After skulling 4 red bulls, the driver said he couldn't drive and I drove from Sara Buri to home, about 280km.

  2. Went to immigration last week to get requirements for non o extension based on marriage. Given two forms, English and Thai. The English one made no mention of the bank statement and manager letter requirements but the Thai did. Both clearly stated the other requirements including photos required. I followed the Thai listed requirements, went yesterday to immigration for the extension and they were very helpful. I think it depends on the particular office, in this case, Phetchabun. The lady took copies of the photos that she wanted directly from my phone. They are very concerned that everything is done properly before submitting it to Chiang Mai for approval. Mind you the wrist gets sore from all the signing!

  3. When I applied to return to Thailand last year there was a company mentioned on the forum that provided insurance only for covid 19. Can anyone tell me if this is still available and the company's name please?

    Arrr.....interesting.

Certainly, given the option, I would prefer everything to be squeaky clean and comply in every respect .

    Cheers.

I am arriving on 4th Dec and did the same. I booked the 7 day quarantine. I queried my hotel and they offered me either day 1 only, days 1 and 5, or all 5 days, which was, surprisingly, their recommendation so I 'could enjoy the sites and benefits of Bangkok' (and catch covid while doing so!). As I live 380km away with no AQ facility in site I'm going to go home and get tested PCR at the local hospital on day 5 and send the results to the consular. Stupid requirements for day 5 yes?

If you are on Singapore Airlines or Scoot, their website has all the specific details. I've been through Changi twice in the pandemic. All the documents you require (for both transit and entry to Australia) you have to show at checkin. It would be the 72hr prior PCR test, the double vaccination, and the Australian Border Force entry document (sorry I forget the name). Also each state may have a document as well, I know Qld does. You should carry them in hard copies and on your phone if possible. However when I was physically at Changi I never had to show anything, other than passport/boarding pass, merely follow them around as instructed.

    Check this topic out.

I had the incorrect phone number error when trying to create a Mor Phrom account. I sent an email to [email protected] with screen grabs of the error and asked them to correct my phone number to allow me to create an account. They did so and I was then able to create the account.

I did likewise. 1 day turnaround

Best to always hedge your bets with this clown.

I would assume you will be using your paid for Moderna shot as a booster some time in the New Year as I hear we will all be needing boosters.

March/April is when I will be getting my booster, no disappointment here.

Here in Phetchabun, rock up, show your passport and receive Pfizer. No problem.

Generally in the "return" free concept, getting a seat is the major problem, as they only allocate a few seats at those rates per flight, forcing most to pay a higher than average for return seat.

I'm booked to fly Bangkok to Melbourne on the 17th December via Singapore. Not sure about getting back in Jan though. Haven't booked that yet

    Its not just your thread.

BTW thanks for detailed info you provided.

Personally I initially was excited to read Oz announcing change in restrictions for Oz citizens to enter Australia withouts the 14 day quarantine etc.

Hoping to return to see family for couple of weeks.

After reading the 72 page thread on the TP and other nightmare threads, I've decided to push those pans back into next year.

OP, I understand your desire to see your completed new home and I can understand folk now coming to Thailand as many have family here.

As for the average tourist they must be unstable to consider a holiday here in Thailand with the current hoops.

For those who may be interested Jetstar are flying Bangkok to Melbourne from the 15th December but through Singapore at the moment.

As it stands now, all persons entering Thailand (except those with work permits with medical insurance under the Thai healthcare system), must have health insurance with a minimum of US$50,000.00 coverage that includes treatment for COVID. This is less than the 'new' requirement for O-A visa holders that will require US$100,000 medical insurance that includes treatment for COVID. Currently, expats on O visas are not required to have any insurance.  Frankly I don't see how those on O visas will be allowed to continue with no insurance but one never knows for sure.  For sure, the system needs to be overhauled and certainly some elderly people are 'trapped' in having to meet the new insurance requirements if they leave Thailand and then return as they have in the past.  I don't see a resolution to this problem soon.

I have seen no mention in the Thailand pass rules about covid coverage in the $50,000 insurance so why bring it up?

Trat is pretty cool.  Especially the Weekend market, that is now just Sunday's due to covid.  Nice city, easy to walk around, it's OK.  We stayed here and liked it.

Chanthaburi is also pretty cool.  Especially if you stay in this area.  Lots of coffee shops and restaurants on the river.  It's OK.

Not far from there is Chao Lao Beach.  Quite a nice beach and quiet area.

Rayong is a pretty big city.  Not sure you'd like it.  But nearby are some nice places.  The beaches in Ban Chang, Laem Mae Phim, etc.  The latter has some nice restaurants on the sea, cheap hotels across the street.  Very quite.

I used it for my last 2 reports. Told me it submitted successfully. Went to immigration last week and asked them to check the entries. They said not in the data base. Had to pay bt4,000. I'll do it immigration from  now

I don’t think they believe that the numbers will be great at the start. It’s just part of the process for kick starting tourism off again. It’s a stepping stone to see what impact an increase in numbers will have over what they have now will have so they can gauge the timing of the next phase., whilst reaching their vac targets.

Not indifferent to what other countries did once they planned their reopening.

Don't know of any other country with liquor bans though
