  1. Had the same experience in Melbourne on 14th Oct. The boss told me the rules had changed and could be submitted in Melb but had to be approved by Canberra. This was done electronically so only 2 day turn around (delayed 2 days because of current events). Had to supply bank statements and a letter from my wife. For the previous 20 occasions her presence at the consulate was enough. Having a yellow book helped.

cant see why so many deaths but by my translation thats what it says

that road from west from khonkaen kills so many people. have vowed never to go on it. sleeper train via bkk is better alternative.

Don't know for sure Fatdog but this could be referring to the accident that occurred on the same road last year where the bus went over the canyon. I will get my wife to confirm. It doesn't look that serious.

  3. Yes, and it's absolutely brilliant. Bought the high end Revo twin cab which has as many features as you can manage. My favorite is the cruise control. Manu extas included. I can ring up and get next day service. Can't speak too highly of it. Fuel economy is about one third better than my 8 year old Fortuna.

  4. I'm at my son's plase in Krabi and has true on cable and it has australia plus as it known these days. We don't have true cable in my village but I have a roming satellite and have taking with ap in aus. It appears that ap can be got on intelsat20 through lingsat although I'm having trouble getting someone whose knows how to tune this. I will keep you informed of my progress.

  5. My grandson (Thai) was obviously a leftie from a very early age and my daughter in law was trying change him to right hand without much success. I asked her why and she said that it was very hard for her to teach him how to write, her being right handed, as she had to use her left hand to teach him ( you have to try it to see what she means). She was finally dissuaded as my grandson just wouldn't change. My son is also left handed and footed so I guess that's where it comes from.

  6. You may want to try raising the level that the pipe is in the well as it is probably too low and is picking up the sediment from the bottom. Sometimes it also helps to get someone in to clean out the sediment from the well. We also run the water through two large filters before it goes into the holding tank which helps as well.

  7. This one's ok but the grey owl found in the garden is considered a harbinger of death in Thailand and should be frightened away. We had one sitting in a tree about 40m from the house last Friday and the tree next to it was zapped by lightning. The owl flew off but the tree caught fire. The next day the monks came and blessed the area - true. The tree had to be cut down - a very old and tall sugar palm.

  8. The distinction is important particularly for defining siblings - i.e., nong for younger than you and pee for older. It seems not to be so important in the village but among the Thai staff in our Melbourne Thai restaurants it is used extensively, even by those who are at university together. My wife's friend, who is also a restaurant owner and seemed about the same age as my wife, was calling my wife 'Pee' until surreptitiously, my wife found out that her friend was a few months older than her so, much to her friend’s consternation, my wife started calling her pee and then the truth came out. It was more of a game to them. The difficulty in this is compounded by the fact that it is impolite to ask the age of other person. I also thought that the term for sorry was kor tort krup, not ka tort krup, but I may be wrong.
