1 common factor in all sad stories, no assistance from the government in any shape or form.

Year ago, promised soft loans for the businesses never made it to the businesses, just disappeared into a thin air.

BOT suggested business owners speak with the banks they have business accounts with for loans, only to be told bank does not lend to tourism related businesses, including restaurants.

Big head keeps coming up with stimulus packages only no one seems to see or feel it effects.

Last week Victoria announced a grant of $3,500 for restaurants for the week lockdown. When it was extended for another week they gave another $3,500.

  2. I am stuck in Australia naively expecting the borders to open shortly. Final realising that this will not happen, and given that i am married to a Thai whom I have been apart from for 6 months now, I have stared the process of repatriation. I'm 78yo am trying to get insurance as required but so far to no avail.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that will meet the repatriation insurance requirements for a 78yo?

  3. We have had a 40 seat Thai Restaurant in a Melbourne outer suburb for over 20 years doing both eat-in and take-away with delivery on our slow nights. Never going to be millionaires but gives us enough to live on and support family, both in Melbourne and Thailand. Have some Thai relo's involved in the business. Have had 4 restaurants in the past but am getting older now and now have wound back to the original restaurant. Secret is to keep the overheads down, particularly rent. Look for a low cost shop but with access to a large numbers of people. Important to keep the food standard high as that will be the selling point - word of mouth is the best publicity. The shop doesn't have to be flash, but needs to be clean.

If you want more info PM me. I don't know what 'PM' means and don't know how to do it or respond to it - have just seen other posters mention it. I guess it means 'personal message'.

    Best of luck mate.

It was my first bad experience in 11 years of using the office here.

I think when I went on Tuesday it was just a bad day to go. Yesterday was not as bad. It seems a lot of my wait was due the head officer not being there to sign off on it.

Joe, I thought the requirement that the income had to be from pension was no longer. If not I could be in trouble as m my income is only partially obtained from pension

  5. I think it depends on the transfer method used. I use TransferWise and the SCB code for the transactions is ATS which stands for Automatic Transfer System. This isn't the code used when I do internal bank to bank transfers. I'm hoping that come extension renewal time that the IO will accept this as being overseas transfers.

  6. I went to the same guy in Phetchabun on the 15th Nov and he did know about it and also asked me why they were stopping issuing the embassy verifications. I think that we have to wait and see what the central IO comes out with as I believe it was them that forced the embassies to stop issuing the letters by demanding them to verify the income which the embassies were not willing to do.

    Go to Mae Sai

Pay 500 B to Myanmar border control

    Tell them your not shopping

They return your stamped passport in the office across the road

    Takes all of 10 minuets

I believe all Myanma crossings are the same. I go to Mae Sot. 500 bt and takes 15mins including the walk across the bridge. I did read that the crossing at 3 Pagoda Pass out past Kanchanaburi is also now open for border crossings. This would more convenient to Bangkok. Laos crossings are1400bt (1200) for Aussies) and you get a Laos visa which takes up a whole page in your passport.
