Perhaps they could hire you as a consultant. Works for a few people in Bangkok that I know.

Cheap it is compared to having to exit and re-enter.

It is encumbent on the maid not to steal. Small or large amounts is irrelevant.
Word of mouth for the next one from people you trust.

Wow lots of judgemental claptrap going on in this thread.
Good luck on finding greener pastures OP.

I think the OP was enquiring about getting a visa for Thailand by going into the embassy in Vientiane not a Laos visa.

When you check in for your flight, you must use the passport you intend to use on arrival.
Otherwise it wont match the flight manifest.
Sorry but this is not correct.
Our kids enter and leave every other country on their British passport and enter Thailand on their Thai passport. Never ever been an issue.

Perhaps the school was found to not be strict in enforcing the terms of an Ed visa and this has been brought to the attention of immigration. They may now be doing their own investigation with arrivals who are known to have had a visa.
All speculation of course.

Every time we leave Thailand on travels the immigration officer asks the missus if she's the mother of the kids. Never tried to leave without her and have seen other solo male travellers with kids pulled around the back for a chat. So it's not unusual.
Immigration would have asked where the entry stamps for Thailand were.

Thanks for the perspective scorecard, never looked at it like that for the future.

No you can't work, even part time.

Lack of preparation on the part of the OP. Sympathise about the cost but not the bad decisions you made by not listening or doing your homework.
Also the comment about "Walen is too far away for me. I would pay $2000 not to make the drive to Walen from Patong every day" - well it looks like you got your wish on that one.

I waited until my second son was a year and a half and my oldest was 6 and there were no issues with getting them British passports. Except we had to do it all by post the same as everyone else does now.
Fill out all the forms and translate everything Thai that they might need; marriage certificate and birth certificate. Your birth certificate to prove you were born in the UK. Photocopy it for each child and then send originals plus copies. Everything original gets sent back.
It was rather quick return after approval.

Why is it that some people think the crack down is only aimed at westerners?
Other threads and news articles quite clearly point out that the largest overstayers by far come from, in no particular order, China, India, Burma (Myanmar) and Cambodia.
For many of those nationalities the penalties would indeed be harsh but it may be worth it compared to the poverty they may have experienced before.- 1

Move along now. Nothing new here.

Our sons have learned at different speeds in both Thai and English as well as maths.
The oldest took more time to speak but went straight into both languages. The youngest started using Thai more quickly but that's probably because the oldest and his mother converse in Thai unless I'm around then it switches depending on how difficult I find to explain something.
Don't worry about the kid(s) they'll be jabbering 12 to the dozen before you can shut the little blighters up. As another poster said you'll wish for the quiet times again ???
Comprehension is more important than repeating a model sentence. IMHO ?

Lots of knee jerking, especially page one.
Life will go on. Most tourists will not be harassed just like last time and the time before and the time before that. International flights will still disgorge people and then take them home again. Military will ask if you're going to the airport and wave you through.
Lots of needless negativity.

They drive on the right side already.

When I travel into Suvarnabhumi with the wife and kids we ALWAYS use the Thai side. Never been refused and never been questioned. Thailand appreciates families in most cases. I've even seen foreign families politely directed to the Thai side when the queues are large.
Hats off to immigration on this ?

My experience is as WBS above.

On the rampage but no damage - sensational journalism at its best

Wow lots of judgement and character assassination.
I thought Thai law allowed a 7 day cooling off period for contracts.

Agree with Generalchaos.
Many people don't know the laws because it's not something they come into contact with. Even our local chief copper didn't believe me until I showed him the relevant references. His attitude was most foreigners don't cause trouble and I don't care what immigration rules are.
