  1. I have children and therefore an interest in what this country does to itself. I think it incumbent on every parent to point out the faults of all sides in this debacle.

I don't support either side to any extreme. I engage when I'm asked directly by my circle of Thai friends and acquaintances. I don't say it's nothing to do with me. I have a vested interest after all.

As for calling people Fascist, why not call them Communist as that more clearly resembles the setting up of "People's committees". Throwing such labels is misleading anyway as both sides end up being controlled by a small number of people.

  2. The lesser of two weevils. - Master and Commander wasn't it?

Yingluck and Suthep are figureheads of opposing forces. Neither in totality is good for the long term for Thailand.

You don't buy Democracy and for those of you just gladly walking past this point, shame on you for corrupting your western morals of right and wrong. Educating the populace about responsibility would be a good start and then perhaps you could move on to more esoteric ideas.

I understand and I know what you saying.

She does not looks low class but as a normal lady from 26 years old.

The intention was a two weeks holiday to Thailand arranged by myself.

I have been to the Philippines 50 times of the last 15 years.

If you have a Thai GF you can travel with her to almost any country in Asia

or even outside Asia as long as she has a visa for the country.

Thai immigration is just checking her passport, ticket and visa if needed.

They dnt question what your Thai GF is gone in Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan or Philippines.

That is the big difference between Philippines and other countries such as Thailand.

Sometimes single Thai ladies travelling to Bahrain are pulled out by Thai immigration for an interview. This may also occur in the departure lounge, as my wife and I have seen twice in the last year.

  4. Cheers theblether brought back some memories of last October 2012.

There's a second waterfall that's only open to tourists from the middle of September to the middle of November approx. Water is a the same colour but a bit clearer than KuangSi but I can't remember the name of this waterfall. There's no water for a large part of the year anyway.

Remember all those steps of pain to the cave at the top at Pak Ou. Would've been drier if I'd jumped in the Mekong.

Went with the wife and kids and everything is available for babies and toddlers. LP has changed a lot in 6yrs since our first trip. The exchange booths are a lot more common and dare I say it the English is better. Perhaps it was my Thai that was a little better too, which helped us enjoy the local scene more. The French style sandwiches are superb so is the beer.

  5. A friend of mine went to the KTB ATM on Pattaya Klang and he was surprised to notice the exchange rate difference.

Here is as I understand it:

He was withdrawing A$ from his bank in Australia in Thai Baht. (Commonwealth ATM card not a debit card.)

Posted board rates were as follows:

    28.3 for Travelers cheques

    28.2 for A$ cash

and on the screen of the ATM for a cash withdrawal was 27.08. This was in addition to the 20Baht ATM Fee and the 150Baht foreign card fee.

Has anyone else had the misfortune to notice this rip-off? Traditionally you get closer to the Telegraphic Transfer rate on ATM withdrawals. The ATMs inside Tops were far closer to the TT rate.

He went to the same ATM over 3 days to make sure he wasn't seeing things.

I look forward to others sharing their experiences. Is it just KTB at the moment or has it been noticed at other banks?
