There is nobody on here who makes Bt1m plus a month advocating to live on Bt100k a month

With 100% certainty I can say there is at least one such person.

Sure there is no upper limit how much one can use for various things dependent on personal tastes and lifestyle habits. If you want Hollywood megastar lifestyle, sure 100k is not enough, nor is 1M. But for a normal comfortable life 100k/mo for one person well enough in Pattaya.

  2.

    1. Tokyo in Japan
    2. Seoul in South Korea
    3. Halong Bay in Vietnam
    4. Palawan Island in the Philippines
    5. Sapa in Vietnam
    6. Bogota in Colombia
    7. Pattaya in Thailand

Can have different opinions about Pattaya, but on this list should be in top 3!

"...can expect great outdoor activities, cultural tours, and cabaret performances..."

and this is certainly true, all within confines of WS and Buakhao!

Unfortunately it was only wired for one unit facing a less than optimal direction.  Pick below shows its location in red.

Another vote for two smaller units for large space. Not difficult to pull wires from breaker box above the ceiling to any area, that's what I have done.

Also, 12kBTU can even run from a socket as long as no higher power kitchen equipment connected to same breaker cirquit...

  4. Pattaya IS a wonderful place to visit just don't let yourself get distracted by those headlines you mentioned. They are just fake news to keep those unwanted visitors (who are deterred by such news) away, too many of them in Pattaya already!

    Thanks for all the ideas.

This won't be for a rental property so condition does need to be half-decent. I don't mind any slight flaws and/or grubbiness, as this can be cleaned up with some elbow grease.

Like a lot are saying though, if the price is similar to new then might as well go new.

I didn't realise there was IKEA here, but I'm presuming in BKK?

    I'll check out their website.

And yesterday I took a trip south to Collingbourne auction house. They had a nice looking sofa/bed advertised, but it had been sold the day before.

The other auction place mentioned to the north could be worth a look too, especially as it's near LamaLand which comes up on Google as another giant 2nd hand store.

As far as online 2nd hand private sales though, FB Marketplace seems top, then BahtSold, then Craigslist.

    Unless anyone knows any more?

Think twice and inspect/review both the item as well as the household where it comes from before you bring 2nd hand sofas, mattresses, carpets etc items that can act as a residence for various kinds of bugs and infest your whole home. Cost of getting rid of them might be multiple times of a new piece of furniture. For basic furniture items for farangs it is hard to beat IKEA, and they deliver for reasoble fee.

I've bought various kinds of items as 2nd hand over the years, and it really seems to be hit and miss. Often sellers have out of whack expectations for the price, but every now and then can find a good deal as well. Overall, seems the farang market has largely moved from bahtsold to FB marketplace.

Local people still use Kaidee I guess, but it is only in Thai, but if use with browser, can manage with translated pages.

Not that I disagree with your comparison, but I highly doubt the court that made this order is made up of culturally Lanna people. That culture has been largely wiped out by the Thai and is only existing as a remnant, although there is clearly still a difference, generally, in the population of the northern provinces, I don't think it can truly be called Lanna anymore. Over 100 years of subjugation has made vast changes. Heck, there are hardly any people who are even literate in Lanna (Kam Mueang). But, in another sense, you can hardly be said to be wrong at all, since culture changes, whether due to subjugation by a larger force or not. I just wonder which may be more accurate, that there is a Lanna culture or that there is a Thai culture with Lanna influence.

Sure, was using the term to refer to geography rather than culture. Anyway the point was that there are many ways to point to other people to blame for a problem rather than deal with a self-caused problem themselves. Part of culture throughout the country regardless of previous kingdoms or cultures I guess.
