  1. Most are got out of my TRS80, Commodore 64 and 128, Atari ST, Apple II, Apple IIC, Apple III, Toshiba, IBM, laptops prior was a bunch of clicks and beeps...perhaps 4 voices for games. Yeah sure....been there. Sound Cards sure do improve quality. A music player just adds switches to operate the sound card. On, off, advance, sort, shuffle, etc. Its pretty simplistic. Can make your own with AutoIT.

  2. Ouch...is this really news? Never used it and never will. Tons of free music players, they all sound the same. I use the a lightweight portable player called spider. In fact, most of my programs are portable and just can run them off a usb thumb drive. Makes any computer I use a cinch, and no installations/hidden programs running.

Actually to some this is really news and maybe the significance is lost to many. .. as it was the forefront in portable music ..

Wikipedia states " In the second half of '90s, MP3 files began to spread on the Internet. The popularity of MP3s began to rise rapidly with the advent of Nullsoft's audio player Winamp, released in 1997"

I could not believe the first time I came across MP3 files and the associated player Win amp .. we are talking years before an ipod and a Rio was the must have gadget! ( No not a Kia Rio car! )

It is a sad demise to see this sturdy player disappear.

Yes there are tons of free music player many are seen as significantly better it would run on some versions of Windows 95 so was lightweight by todays standards - but in the earlier years of computing this was it. It was not a question of "never used it and never will" there really was no choice .. we have a lot to thank Nullsoft for but of course many will just see it as history and not consider the significance of the demise of an old faithful .

Please say farewell old friend and thank you.....................................!

Lol never used it.... Had many, many computers since 1977 (TRS 80). After playing with at least several dozen players, I decided simple is best. I play music all day, I don't need anything fancy, and the less it draws on computer resources, the better off I am.

Again...play a song with winamp or play it with any other player. Sounds the same. Perhaps some spiffy skins and colorful graphics...

    Call me mr Minimalistic

    LOL Dear Mr Minimalistic

I never could get music on my Sinclair zx or the Amstrad though , the Olivetti 386 played midi files as I recall using an 8 bit card .. then my wonderfully expensive soundblaster 16 bit isa card in my upgraded os/2 p75 cutting edge to windows 75 .. ohhhh dreams and memories for an old fool like me. I still run an old cyrix 233 notebook on odd occasions with win 98 .. why ? because I can :-) and pumping the sound through decent speakers is just as good as from my itoad ..

all much of a muchness now as you suggest.

Ever notice those people with ten dollar speakers and 1000 dollar computers?

  3. There's a lot of times I don't get asked to prove onward travel.

Like when I fly R/T on the same itinerary. The nice lady behind the check-in counter has my entire itinerary on her screen.

That's more definitive than any e-ticket I could have easily falsified and printed.

Thats a good example of not needing proof..... but Round trip tickets are self explanatory....aren't they?

As far as onward travel....that a bit more complicated. I leave New York, and they chase me down asking for proof that I am ever coming back. Then I say, hey, I got a visa to Thailand for 2 months so I don't need a return. The airline says, well, you cannot board. Then I say, well I have this ticket from Bangkok to the Philippines (onward travel). They look at me again and shake their heads...very nice, you are visiting two places this year....but I need to see your return trip. Thats when I flash the Philippine I-Card for permanent residency. Now their requirement for a round trip has been negated, and I have the onward travel to deal with in the Philippines. (The I-card is expired and I enter visa exempt for 21 days). That is where the problem occurs.

Visa holders do not need an exit ticket to board or to enter kingdom. That is final and undebatable. At the moment the counter agent insists just ask to talk to the airline local manager and it will end there.

Sent from my GT-I9070 using Tapatalk

thats fine for visa holders. holds no salt for anyone else.

  4. I don't go to bars but still think Issan is the mostly ghastly area with probably the worst corruption, poor infrastructure, boring landscape and decidedly primitive health care. Oddly there is more Issan music in Bangkok than Issan, if you like it there then good for you.

Have you been to Loei, or the Mekong, or many of the National parks in Korat, ? Take your google glasses off and get a grip. Take a look at Bangkok now....or the Oily stenchy beaches of Pattaya.... Clean up here, pal.

  5. I think China is playing it the only way they can. However, it is they that do not have the Logisitcal capabilities to move troops and supplies quickly. The United States has plenty of assets in Asia...especially in Korea, Japan, and Guam...as well as facilities/logistical and command support in Singapore, Austrailia, and most importantly, now, back in the Philippines.

  6. Some posts removed. Bringing the Monarchy into the discussion is a fast way to get thrown out of here. Especially in situations like this. Use your heads.

Praying for Peace in the Kingdom today.

That's nice, but I'm praying for more and increased violence. Peace and apathy is not how a strong democracy is forged from more primitive forms of governance. Rather, it is through sacrifice and pain that societies move forward.

Thais need more, much more pain and sacrifice if they are to become a better society.

Easily said for a man safely in the background.

  7. I doubt anybody could have predicted that bussing in thousands of amped-up red shirts could have led to violence occurring. Sad and surprising in equal measures. It is also a shame that Yingluck will be presumably arrested and charged for premeditated murder in a personal capacity.

Huh? I am scratching my head on this.

Thousands of Red shirts and Thousands of yellowshirts

    Tempers starting to flare up

    Government property seized

    Military and police presence

    History of violence

    Prolonged period of demonstrations

Ok...nobody can predict that somebody might get hurt?

I was expecting free coffee and donuts for all.

  8. "a mix of royalists, southerners and the urban middle class" So only royalist northerners are against Thaksin, or aren't there royalists in the north? I have friends(farmers) from Isaan who protest against this goernment - I also have Southern friends(business owners) who are staunch red-shirt supporters. There may be majorities in certain areas that lean to either side, but to paint everything with the same brush just adds to the polarisation of this nation. The media should not perpetuate these stereotypical ideas.

My wife's family is all Red Shirt, but my wife is yellow. They don't quarrel about it. Thats how it should work.
