Certainly facing this, my first action will be to change from an O-A Visa. Personally, my last action would be leaving to a more welcoming country. But I do understand this poster's position.

The inconvenience is, at my age 69. more than US$3000 per year for an almost worthless insurance to stay in Thailand...  I am open to Cambodia, India and Vietnam for that small inconvenience and stay in an apartment hotel.

No it is incorrect as it has been reported insurance from your home country will not be considered or the guys that have tried and been rejected are not telling the truth and I doubt that is the case. They seem to be requiring Thai based ins companys and they are happy to show you a list

Please read:  will need to download the Overseas Insurance Certificate and have it completed, signed, and stamped by their insurance company if using a non-Thai insurance policy to qualify.

That is what I am planning to do. If you mean later in the day !

Last week I went to CW immigration and I met the officer to extend my stay (TM7) for one year as usual then the officer automatically directed me to desk "B" (TM30) to check if I was registered in the computer while she waited for my return.  My land lady has never used a computer so I was not registered.  I paid the 800 Bht fine, I went back to the same immigration officer with the receipt and simply continued the procedure to get the extention.  They also checked if I had the valid 90 days report in my passport which I had.

This way I completed both TM7 and TM30 at the same time but I was 800 Bht poorer.  I expect next year to be the same.

  4. Yesterday I went to renew my visa extention for a year and they sent me to counter B for checking my residence registration.  Of course I was not in the computer then they fined me THB800.00 for this even if I have not left the country since Nov 2017.

Everybody applying for visa extention yesterday had to go through this new procedure and all had to pay a fine of THB800.00 like me.  I feel like being robbed, I felt like a prisoner under electronic surveillance bracelet...  The whole stay extention procedure with Re-entry permit and fine cost me THB6500 and 9 hours.

The new rules is to go to the Immigration when we temporarily leave the country withing 5 days of our return to register with them about our travel.  I am asking who will do that knowing that the minimum waiting time in the queue to enter immigration offices at Chaeng Wattana is 5 hours?

In addition of the 90 days reporting, why do we have to duplicate our place of stay with this?

What really annoys me is the inflated prices for Christmas and New Year meals/events. In the U.K. I can understand it as the Staff have too be paid double time etc to work over certain holiday days.

Here in Thailand I doubt very much the Staff get enhanced rates for working over the holidays so why inflate the prices, simple greedy restaurant owners trying too cash in and I find the U.K. owners the worst offenders.

Those taxi prices posted on Twitter for Koh Samui are they real?

    UHT versus pasteurisation.

I once met a young chemist from NZ in a bar in Bangkok, he was visiting Thailand in his work, he told me that Dutch milk was powder milk as well as another brand, I forgot the name, he was also exporting to Thailand.  In any case I think that both natural whole milk or powder milk taste almost the same.

I simply prefer the Magnolia Full fat milk as it produces a better foamy milk from my french push coffee maker.

  8. The Thai are now drinking hard stuff: 40%++ instead of softer beer and wine.  This policy of government heavy tax measured in alcohol content is only encouraging alcoholism and early death.  Less sales will simply bring less taxes...  Now all are drinking whisky by the bottles.  The law needs changing, who can afford a THB 2000 steak with a THB 1000 wine glass?

  9. I had to go twice a week from Sathorn Road to Rama 6 Ramathibodi hospital for 6 months, I can say that 80% of the time, the taxi drivers tried to cheat me by going through their way instead of my way which is faster, they act in a threatening way, they have no change when at destination, they let me on the road once because apparently not enough gasoline which was a lie, one fell asleep at traffic light, one was pulling his facial hairs at traffic lights with 2 baht coins, one tried to keep the change from 100 Baht at highway toll.  Come on Thailand, when will you have a school for taxi drivers like they have in most other countries?

The first impression of any tourists are when they board their first taxi from airport to hotel...

sorry,u screwed up, why did u wait so long to apply for a new passport?
u knew it was going to expire so has nothing to do with ur eye surgery..

PS   I got a new US passport 4 years before it was due to expire cause it was full (along with 2 extra pages)

you dont need give any reason, nor did they ask

Have you ever had 4 eye surgeries one after the other in 6 months?  In those cases, passport renewal is last on your mind, you simply want to get on with a good vision.  By the way my next passport is valid for 10 years instead of 5 years.  In any case a doctor certificate will settle any problem but those doctors are so busy I wanted to let them doing what they are good for, that is to save eyes.

  11. I had serious eye surgeries since last week, (the IOL fell in the vitreous and has been  urgently replaced by another IOL), my passport will expire on 3 August 2017 and renewal of visa due to retirement for one year extension is  on 03 July 2017.

Today I went to my embassy to have a new passport issued but the embassy says that it  should take 2 weeks, sometimes more, for the new passport to come to Thailand.  There is a real possibility that the new passport arrives too late for the extension trip to Chang Wattana before 03 July.  In the embassy opinion, Chang Wattana will not renew a one year retirement visa extension on 3 July if my passport is only valid for one more month only.

Now If I ask my surgeon for an attestation letter that I could not leave Thailand during the surgery follow up before my visa extension as I am still on recovery and writing this letter via the magnifier included in Windows then what the immigration officer will do if I am late in renewing the visa extension due to retirement by a few days?  My embassy has now sent the passport to my country and I only have a receipt to show for it, no passport in my possession,  My next doctor appointment is exactly on 3 July.. Any suggestion?

  12. I am on a non-immigrant category "0" visa with a retirement extension and re-entry permit until July 2017.

Every time I re-enter Thailand, the Arrival Card asked about my visa number, what is then the right answer to write?

    1.The original non-immigrant category "0" visa or

    2. the retirement extension or

    3. the re-entry permit?

All of them have a specific number...

  13. Although I've been doing it for years, the final eleven months of my last extension was put on hold until I provided the receipt (I left it at home). This was at CW.

I have removed several posts relating to this post and replies to them.

I understood what he was writing about.

He apparently applied for an extension of stay and was given a under consideration stamp a with report back date 30 days later. When he went back to get his extension stamp they would not do it because he did not have the receipt for the last 90 day report he did in his passport.

The one error was saying he got the remaining 11 months since it is actually the 12 month extension stamp dated from the end of his the permit to stay he was extending.

    not clear
