  1. I have been living in Thailand for 36 years, married for 23 years and we have only son in University. We live modestly in an apartment in a 40 years old building in Central Bangkok, rent is THB10,000 per month, we have an old car 1997 that we use once a month for shopping, Thai wife allocation is THB20,000/month and I only go out during happy hours, I mostly buy anything only when on sales.

My cost average calculated on the last 20 years with the odd Big Mac is $44,000 per year.

  2. My son is 18 with double nationality, Canadian and Thai. Last year he went by van from Trat to Siem Reap and they got rip off just before the border, the Thai driver stopped and asked for more money from all of them in the van.

They told him that they did not know that he was Thai, they said that their business was to make money with falangs and if they had known that he was Thai they would not have taken him. It was you pay or you stay here on the highway.

May I suggest that you fly instead or take the visa run bus from Bangkok.

  3. The raining season is the best season for Asian and all will be cheaper. This year the hot season was very very hot, do not worry and travel at ease. Lonely beach might be a little more lonely but there are always bungalows and bars opened. Except for Nepal, you can travel in the rain, it is never continue, it often only rain after 18:00 hr and stop at 06:00. Enjoy.

  4. THE PHEU THAI PARTY yesterday tried to dissuade the government from invoking Article 44 of the interim charter, warning of an even more adverse impact than martial law on business, tourism and investment.

Article 44 is Thailand life insurance against another eventual Pheu Thai Party and Red Shirts terrorist organisation. They have almost destroyed and bankrupted this beautiful country in less than 3 years.

  5. Thaksin is an advisory member of the Carlisle Investment Group of which Georges Bush is a member. It is apparent that he has been doing some phone calls to friends in the US in support of his dangerous sister and the murderous PTP Thai regime. I wish that Mr. Russell was shown a few video of the red shirt invasion and burning of Bangkok in 2010, The martial law is there to see that no innocents are murdered again from both side, reconciliation and peace can proceed.

All of us in Thailand know very well what will happen if Martial Law is withdrawn, Are you missing the red villages, the killing with war weapons and the red bullying anyone? This was democracy at his worst under Yingluck regime. We all know that the country was going towards a civil war under Thaksin command from Dubai. If the US really wants to save democracy, to allied itself with the Shinawatra family and ask for abolition of the Martial Law will bring the opposite.

  6. What if the people vote for a very charming person but completely ignorant of Finance matters as Finance minister? The same for any other ministry, It is more logic for a prime minister to select his own cabinet and proceed for a reorganisation later if need be. A prime minister is inseparable from his cabinet, as such the prime minister should be allowed to select his team as is done in most democracy.

  7. OP.

I work for an AV company (product mentioned elsewhere in this thread), and your suggestion AV firms create the viri first is really quite bonkers. I could take offence to your comments, but in this case i'll pass as you're quite literally under informed.

The popup you got was most likely an innocent site, but a ad somewhere was injected with the popup, it's called ransomware.

I could give you NDA covered information were these viri and malware originate from, but then i'd be putting my job at risk. Lets just say there's a big continent involved.

What I will say (and heck, why do it) is that we not only use our own signatures for event detection, but also two, maybe three big name AV suppliers signatures too. And we share ours back on a 15 minute cycle. This is at an infrastructure level, so there's no way malware of a virus can pass through after it's second sighting.

Now, toddle off and get some real time detection on your machinery - even free scanners like AVG etc use most signature databases to collate their dictionaries.....

I have been using Outlook for so many years with Microsoft Windows and I have no problem with unwanted emails, Outlook blocked them all automatically and Hotmail is also doing the same.

I have bought a new Apple Ipad recently and I have received so many spams since that I do not know what to do. I am not a fan of Apple but the ipad is good hardware with long battery life. I found out that there are almost no existing softwares to stop those unwanted emails for IOS. The ones I have downloaded from Apple store do not seem to work at all. Apple does not seem to care at all from this invasion of unwanted emails. Any suggestions?

  8. A return to an elected government and no more coups. Also a serious attempt to reduce corruption. It's wishful thinking but something I really want for my kids. I am not choosing sides.

The darling of Isan was an elected government and they were set to destroy and rob the hard working suffering farmers of Thailand. "Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts" was to openly give direction and controle of the country to a power hungry criminal set to benefit his family and cronies. The Pheu Thai party and the red shirts are now only waiting their time to continue the destruction and the return of this criminal from Dubai.

All Thailand troubles started with Thaksin, be it the Tak Bai incident which resulted in 85 deaths and the South retaliation against boudhists for the deaths at Tak Bai, his war on drug saw 2,873 Thais dead in a matter of three months and now the divisive policies to create a Lanna state. The coup was the only way to stop the devastation of the Thaksin regime but maybe it came too late. Only with strong institutions to balance the power of the government in place Thailand can progress to a full democracy, Institutions like an independant Congress, independant Senators and independant Judiciary.

A change in government only through the ballot box will not work without reforming those institutions of Thailand. Now let's trust that it is Prayuth intention to save Thailand by reforming those Institutions of the country then, only then, call for a fair election. With those reforms in place, the party elect will not be able to do as they pleased without consequences.
