  1. Another nail in the coffin of freedom for Thai people.

Such draconian laws are tougher than the UK USA and Australia.

There are half a dozen pubs, bars and alcohol outlets within a stone's throw of a small Buddhist shrine near our place. Are they all to be closed down? Is there to be no advertising on the back of busses that pass by a school? Crazy stuff. Underage drinking is largely a parenting issue and regulating the location of premises selling alcohol and placement of advertising will do nothing to curb the problem.

It is abundantly clear that this is another ploy by Muslim fundamentalist dictators who have overrun the legal government to turn the nation into a Muslim state.

Stand up for your country Thailand and take back what is yours.

  2. I for one would let the ruskies, pakies and the other low life farang down there keep their little gang wars going and eventually wipe each other out -- just let the tourists know not to trust anything that is offered to them from local non thais -- but then again there are a lot of dodgy thais who frequent tourists sites as well -- if the local police chief does not do his job as deemed but the powers that be - oh well =- give him an advisory post at police HQ in Bkk - normal practice

yeah, let all poor lowlife aussies, uk, us, eu backpackers go out thailand to clean out the police reports and let LOS charge million bahts to living here - will no any rasist posters like at quoted text. Never say for all race - keep in your minds what you speak about some persons only!

What unpleasant individuals you are!!!! If you don't like the races here don't stay. Go back to where you come from. I doubt anyone would miss you or is it that your own home countries don't want you either.

At the end of the day all life is important no matter where you come from and these two girls have a right, even in death, to have the murderer found and punished. :D

I hope I'm not sharing my beer with any of you guys .... :o

  4. Mr. Anuchit was apprehended by police on Thursday and initially confessed to police that he had murdered the Russian women, Tatiana Tsimfer, 30, and Liubov Svirkova, 25, after they resisted being robbed.

The two were found shot dead in their deckchairs in the eastern resort of Jomtien early on the morning of February 24.

Really? They were resisting the robbery from their deck chairs? So ... two girls sitting in deck chairs, probably in bikinis and wearing sunglassess, possibly listing to their walkmans while drinking a beer fought with the thief to such a degree that he had to shoot them both dead .... while they were still laying out in their deck chairs .... hmmm .... Officer? That's the dumbest thing I've heard since the coup!

  5. Security in Bangkok to be tightened

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin warned directors of 50 districts in Bangkok of possible insurgents' attacks in the capital in an urgent letter distributed on Wednesday.

Mr Apirak told the directors to work with police and soldiers to prevent insurgents' attacks, especially at crowded places like department stores, skytrain and subway stations.

He said security measures to be stepped up in Bangkok around the clock to guarantee safety to the Bangkokians.

Public are also urged to help authorities and inform them if they see or know something suspicious.

Mr Apirak's action came after rumours circulated that insurgents planned to stage violent activities again on Friday.

Insurgents staged a spate of bombings and arson in the southernmost provinces on Sunday night, killing seven people and hurting more than 50 others.

    -- Bangkok Post 2007-02-21

    They're not "insurgents". They're Muslims.

  6. ACT most certainly IS responsible for design flaws in the terminal building. No matter what the government specifies, professional consultants such as architects and engineers have a duty of care to adhere to the building code and provide safe, serviceable structures that comply with building controls and are FIT FOR PURPOSE. It is criminal to do otherwise.

  7. I agree with taxexile 100%. Muslims are planning to wipe out the infidels. In the middle east it is Muslims verse Jews. In Europe and Africa it is Muslims verse Christians. In Thailand it is Muslims verse Buddhists.

While Christians, Jews and Buddhists just sit around and talk about it it will not stop.

    Virgil, Out!

the government will never be able to stop the attacks.

the muslim extremists will succeed , even if it takes them 100 years , in wrecking southern thailand and taking it back to the middle ages , and their he11ish vision of a truer form of extreme islam.

within 2 or three generations , large portions of asia will be heading the same way , as will parts of europe.

holland , france and the uk spring to mind.

  8. I want to see the 30 days visa entry rule abolished, along with visa runs.

The harder time Immigration give these dross, the better.

Get the message, (NOT WANTED HERE)

    Mate,

lighten up. I come in on the 30 day visa, I work oil and gas, get +100K US a year, support my thai gf in a 50,000THB upmarket condo, don't prowl around patpong or cowboy. Make a point of taking said gf for a weekend away at a resort at least every time i am here thus pumping valued THB into the tourist economy. Not to mention supermarket, day to day stuff in BKK. You calling me dross? Fronting up at an embassy every time I want to come here I doubt I'd bother

    Mate,

Dross is the word. You MAY work oil and gas and you MAY get +100k US per year. You may even put a thai gf up in a condo for 50,000THB per month - but why would you? If you care about her that much then you'd bring her home to meet mum and dad.

On the other hand - you may not be what you claim to be... You might, say, be a middle-aged urban cheapskate from Subiaco living at home with mum and dad without two pennies to rub together.

    Certainly, dross not wanted here!

  9. Thai Baht is getting stronger against most currencies.

This is starting to hit Isaan farmers right where it hurts. My wife's family run pig, cattle and rice farms. Most of what they produce gets sold to factories for packaging and export to China. 6 months ago they were selling around 100 pigs per month for 39bt per kilogram and grossing around 300,000bt. Since the strengthening of the Baht demand has gone down and last month they managed 52 pigs at 28bt per kg - grossing around 120,000bt. This has been reflected across all farm produce as the baht strengthens.

While they have enough feed to carry the extra stock for now, the reduced income has put all expansion and development on hold. My father-in-law said that if it is the same after Songkran then he's going to have to think about scaling down and further diversification.

Just 2 generations ago this family had nothing. They now have a wide variety of investments because they took the initiative to "farm like farangs". They now employ entire villages of people in several districts taking care of just about everything except poultry. If things continue as they are these people will lose their jobs. :o

  10. JI makes sense, they want to destabilise the SE Asian area and make a muslim dominated region.

    Exactly Bronco,

I've been saying this for months .... They are trying to make the whole of SE Asia muslim. Trouble in the Phillipines too. But in Thailand it is getting worse ... from the coup leader right up (yes, up) to JI ...

It won't be long before they're teaching it in the schools.

  11. Nah Mate,

You've got to get things into perspective here. You see, the Thai military poo-poo'd the Thaksin government. So Thaksin went to Singapore and said "those mean guys in the military poo-poo'd my government". Singapore said, "well, we will poo-poo their poo-poo's." Then, the Thai military got really upset with Singapore and "poo-poo'd them back for poo-pooing them for the poo-poo's they did to Thaksin."

So, in a nut shell, everyone's got the sh*ts here!

    Virgil, Out!

How dare the institutions/people in Singapore do what they did. Shame on them! Thailand is the center of the universe, why won't they recognize this! I mean what is Singapore these days? A cheap copy of Bangkok, not?

    Thailand rules!

  12. So what name will be used for DM?

    Bangkok National Airport

    Bangkok Occasional Airport

    BKK Classic

    I can't believe it's still an Airport

New Bangkok International Old Domestic ...er... I give up. :o

    Re: Airport names:

Well, I've conferred with my wife and ... killing ourselves laughing ... we have agreed that the airports should be renamed to:

    "go-diss-way"

    "go-datd-way"

Don't ask which one is which ... that would spoil all the fun.

  13. Premature sex / university? Who are these people??????

Yup! The sky is falling again ... I told you! It all started with those beer commercials. Before you know it, teenagers are looking at titties on their PC's. Of course ... if the world was Islamic .... don't laugh ... that's exactly where the so-called "caretaker government" is taking the beautiful country of Thailand ....

Now, all you gals get off that bar counter and go buy yourselves a habib. Leow-leow!!!

The sooner the Buddhists stand up and reclaim their beautiful country of Thailand, the better!!!!

  14. I cannot be certain of this figure, but I bet 90%+ homes in Thailand do not have hot-water in the showers at all, and yet the people are just fine. No Legionnaire disease to speak of, much less any other problems.

I'm hedging my bets that a Finns/Nordics may have contracted the illness during their journey to Thailand, or by interacting with each other.

Of course they will be fine if they have no hot water. If the tanks on the hotel roofs are getting to 30-40 degrees © then they are providing and idyllic breeding ground for bacteria - bacteria loves this temperature range. While bacteria will still breed at temperatures of 5-30 degrees the process is much much slower. Under 5 degrees (probably not applicable to any water in southern Thailand!) and the breeding grinds to a virtual halt.

Good point. It is not a tropical desease. Outbreaks are most common in the temperate climates around 30 -35 degrees north and south of the equator. The Finns may have contracted the desease in transit somewhere.

  15. Interesting that they are analysing water samples, since the Legionella bacterium is spread via air and inhalation of mists containing the pathogen.

Exactly bubba ... it breeds in water. In fact, water cooling towers which spray water around to cool a/c systems are the ideal spot fot Legionella to breed. Anyone down-wind of an infected cooling tower is prone to infection. This is not the same water that comes through the pipes to the a/c unit in individual hotel rooms at that is a closed system. The bacteria prefers well-oxygenated, warm water. It is uncommonly found in ponds, swamps, etc. where crypto type bugs are found.

Just thought I'd add my 2 baht worth.

  16. Yeah,

I like the way you think. For me, you can't beat Ko Chiang ... if you don't mind the travelling. I've spent about 20x more time there than Pattaya and Phuket put together. Quiet. Good food. Good fishing. Not many bars and few jerks looking for bargirls.

    Love it.

    Cheers,

    Virgil, Out!

I remember encircling the fish with local fishermen and woman with a huge net at Kata Beach, then concelebrating the catch with a lot of food and beer and a doobie or two. Those were the days. Today you can invite me to Phuket, all expenses paid. I would not go.
  17. ``The stock market has fallen too much today,'' Pridiyathorn told reporters at a press conference. ``This is the side effect of the central bank's measure, but we have fixed it already.''

    :o

unbelievable .... the idiot is actually taking credit for solving the problem !

he'll be offering his resignation next.

Pridiyathorn Pridiyathorn Pridiyathorn ... whatever you do, don't press the little red button ....

  18. Some of us were smart enough to be BUYING on the market yesterday... :o

Really? What did you buy? Why did you buy it? How do you expect it to perform over short term and long term? What market indicators induced you to buy yesterday? What performance indicators affected your choice of stocks?

Hmmm .... the SMART farangs that I know don't invest in the Thai economy. Why would you? Euro/American markets are more stable as are businesses and property values.

My wife is a dentist here. The money we save goes off shore where it is safer.

    Good luck with your investments.
