Arrive with ticket and cash in hand.

1/2 the marriages end in separation.....
So it's less than the West then?

Incorrect.only in border towns like Poipet. -
IMO the current state of Phuket represents the future for the majority of locales in Thailand.
Certainly the locales where foreigners are present (with their money.)

Try not to take the loss of face like an Asian.... Good lad.
OK then, I'll try to get back to facts, rather than wild claims that the Thai baht is some kind of internationally accepted currency.

Auto updates and YES they will soon see it is an iffy copy,
Nonsense.

We pay them in chicken innards and bugs.

You should move to Thailand then. It's much cheaper here.
Are there other countries that accept Thai baht as currency?
Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.
No they don't. You can't walk into a shop in any city in those 3 countries and spend Thai baht.
Pretty much can. In fact, in most shops in any city in these three neighbours it is preferred.

Kurnell, those things you listed aren't really daily expenses are they? Unless you have a mountain of iPads at home and a shoe collection to shame Imelda Marcos.
Plus where would you buy an ipad for 2,000b??
averages...
One 14,000b toy a week = 2k a day average.
What I spend on Saturdays and Sundays are typically 5 times what I spend on a Monday and Tuesday.
At the end of the month I divide my monthly expenditure by 30 or 31 to get the daily average.

When I see reports of organized crime in Thailand and who is likely behind it, I draw on the CCTV video of my friend's condo's security guards taking his 100,000 motorbike down the road one night and lifting it into a pick-up after they disconnected the cameras in the condo.

^ You can put your socks back on now.
Well done.

As no one has recommended an actual make of computer, would I be right in assuming they are all similar?
Pretty much.
I would do what I did.
Get a PC built from the optional sets a well based local computer company such as JIB has.
They often have different packages on promotion. And build them there after you choose. Unless the kid is doing high-end design and visual work your budget is more than sufficient. Even too much. Under 15k for the lot.
A copy of Win 7 is identical in every single way to the original and updates as you please.

Don't buy a copy Window 7 or 8, when I ran a copy Win XP and started to update, microsoft quikly found out that I was running a copy and started to shut my PC desktop down.
Nonsense.

I got my Tower PC with free printer, LCD monitor (18.5 inch) etc from JIB Computer for 12,000 around a year ago. Copy of Win 7 for 300b.
4GB Ram.
500GB HDD
Inter G620 2.60ghz processor.
All good.
Just took about 30 mins to get all the sh!t loaded onto it with the Win 7 copy off.
Though he'll probably appreciate camfrog, Thai music hits etc etc.

Tower for his house.
A laptop and his friends will break it.

The problem I have is with all these reports of people (mules) being stopped and arrested at recognised border crossing points. With no offence intended at the border patrols, Thailands borders are not sealed and to me a night crossing would be the better way to get illegal substances into the country.
It is akin to these idiots being stopped going out/ coming into the country through air-gates. Again, to me this is either stupidity or the offender is being setup.
Where do you think the real shipments are coming through?

When they offer me a drink I refuse and say 'Sorry, cannot, I am a Buddhist'.
Do it and watch their face.

I spent a year living in Isaan in my mid-20s. I used to love hearing these stories down in the local nightspots. Told by the GF's enjoying a bottle of Black Label with their Thai BF.

I spend about 2,000 baht a day after paying the mortgage, school fees, family health insurance and maid. My company pays for the car, fuel and expenses. There is nothing extravagant in that 2,000 baht. Holidays are additional. Even my wife spends more than 1,500 a day. No way can you describe 1,000 baht a day as living well.

^ She really knew you before jumping into marriage then eh, not even knowing what sort of religious views you happen to have.

Why stay here? Serious question.
If I had your outlook on Phuket I would have left long ago.
I left Phuket in 2004.
Praise Buddha.

How humanity has the intelligence to understand subatomic science, to clone other beings, to walk on the moon and return to Earth, to magically and invisibly transmit 10Gb's of HD porn through the air and into my computer every night, but yet has such religious beliefs is really quite astounding, isn't it?
