  1. Thai PM testifies in court over cooking programmes

Article 267 of the Constitution stipulates that the prime minister is prohibited from holding any position in a partnership, a company or an organisation carrying out business with a view to sharing profit or income, or being an employee of any person.

Samak told the court that he appeared in the programmes only as an honorary guest, without seeking any compensation.

Absent a paper trail, will the courts conclude that Samak was not in violation of the Constitution?

On the surface the case seems a bit comical (the BBC announcer found it a bit amusing)- but the ramifications are tremendous- If the courts can not find evidence that article 267 was breeched and therefore find him innocent of the charge- it will be a triumph for justice in Thailand- a strict reading of the law with out bowing to expediency.

    But the 'crisis' will continue.

If, again absent proof of renumeration, he is found guilty the crisis will (temporarily anyway) end- but the courts will have to show that the verdict was based on law and not political expediency.

Absent proof of payment in a country champion for it's corruption and underground economy. :o

  2. Didn`t he also buy the previous owners debts as well as the 81.6 milllion pounds he paid?

Yes, but as far as I know and read, the previous debts were included in the GBP 81,6 Million.

But.....no guarantee from my side :o

    LaoPo

    I think he's breaking even.

I think the debts were around 140 million pounds although I can't guarantee it.

I'll dig in the old news reports from earlier and see.

  3. The first step to put Thailand on the road to real democracy would be to make anyone standing for election to relinquish all forms of police or military rank as part of the process.

    Isn't this what Thaksin did?

BTW can somebody please post a picture of Thaksin in police uniform?

If there is one person who did milk his rank title it sure was Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin. :o

I guess he can`t be called that anymore. :D

  4. Samak also said that he still planned to go a UN General Assembly meeting in New York on 25 September.

"I will go to speak at the United Nations, even though Thaksin went and speak there and did not return," Samak said.

Seems like a great opportunity to once again get rid of a corrupt PM - we can only hope.

They are so desperate as it is, add to that the eventual second dissolution for this bunch, it wouldn`t surprise me a bit they`re actually thinking they are reopening the door for a second coup so they can whine about it again over and over after dissolution. There won`t be any other coups, we would have seen one by now.

  5. He sure loves skating on thin ice, and he already fell through once :o

Seems like Jakrapop isn't the only one with a taste for skating on thin ice

Are you hinting you'd love to see me suspended or banned?

    Jai yen yeeen.

Here's an oldie I've pulled out of the archives just for you.

  6. Just saw that Al Jazzera interview with Jakaprob and a rep from the Democrat party again today, Jakaprob clearly mentions ''invisible hands and sacred power''

He sure loves skating on thin ice, and he already fell through once :o

He blames the PAD for preventing PPP to perform right from the start. :D

We`ll surely get it on Youtube soon, the program was East 101.

  7. Does a State of Emergency in anyway affect what can be posted on Thai Visa.

Sure would be a lot fewer posts if only gov't sanctioned posts were allowed!

Good post. Thought about this but didn't want to seem paranoid. Believe it would take much for cencorship... Exactly what that is we can only wait and see. It's all good

    Post 1698.

  8. I see the PAd crowd has more than doubled from what it was this afternoon.

Govt. and police have absolutely no control over that small area.

University students will even make it to the stage tomorrow with their famous mock Chinese opera and leave without a problem, like all the other celebrities and ordinary citizens attending.

No crowd control, no real police force (too corrupt and divided), no real government (united in corruption).

Still nothing but a farcical façade.

They just won`t let go because the faithful zombies still have plenty of work to do to save the Little Emperor`s ass.

Thai army disobeys PM/Minister of Defense. :o

  9. "I dont drive like Thais" You should then you'd blend in and wouldn't have this problem.

"Don't use brake pedal when somebody swerves into you" Comunication problem somewhere

Blending in and driving like Thais are two totally different approaches.

You don't know what you're talking about.

So your driving outside lane at 60kph and the inside lane you say is full of slow moving objects when you see this truck pull up behind in the rear mirrors ,then you see him get agitated in the mirrors still doing 60kph then he pulls alongside of you at 60kph(but you don't say right or left),so you have vision ahead to see any obsticles left lane or oncoming that might cause him to pull in sharply and you are still doing 60kph and he passes to a point that when he does hits your front bumper and wing(fender) and you say he cut back in on purpose why didn't you use the BRAKE pedal, the distance from the front of his bonnet(hood)to his rear quarter wing(fender)is about 4.5 mtr, unless you didn't see him but you had in your mirrors with enough time to assess he was angry?

I think you have taken living in Thailand too far and addopted the Thai driving style of not being able to see what could/can/is happening around you, also your spherical vision may need checking.

    my tought exactly

OP is the equivalent of an asian woman in other countries.

Op has no idea of his surrouding, op has no idea how car speed works. OP probably press the accelerator.. hits 70, starts breaking to go back down to 60, rinse and repeat. OP has no side mirrors

Posters have no idea who OP is , never even met him, even less driven around with him. <deleted> do they know? Are they even aware I've driven a truck, car and motorcycle here for 5 years without a scratch?

Posters are in denial or immediately push aside the obvious and deadly mess Thai roads are with no effective law enforcement , some of the most dangerous in the world but immediately blame an unknown person.

OP has driven motorcycles, 3 wheelers, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, 5 and 10 ton trucks for a living for 5 years without a single accident, tour bus, a Winnebago and pick-up trucks with trailers behind, backing up anywhere without a problem using mirrors only.

  10. The upsetting part here is the fact that students are getting involved in a situation where neither side deserves their support. The only hope for this country (IMHO) is for a new generation of critically thinking educated Thai people to take the reins. If today's students are still taking sides in this antediluvian struggle then we're in for the long haul indeed.

Really? Have you had a good look at the education system here? They're it's main dissatisfied customers.

My niece went from grade school to public high school this year they're asking asking for the equivalent of 4000 USD. :o

  11. Being conditioned to live in a State of Emergency? Well remember it's a lot harder to gain freedoms than it is to lose them. So don't lose your freedoms.

  12. Students disperse from Lardprao police station

Ramkhamhaeng University students dispersed from the Lardprao police station to regroup and rally in front of their university early Friday.

Some 200 students stopped demonstrating in front of the police station at 1:15 am and canceled the plan to march to the house of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej.

They instead moved to rally in front of the Ramkhamhaeng University after many of their friends left the rally site in front of the police station and returned home.

The students demonstrated at the police station after two students were short and injured while the students were marching to the prime minister's house Thursday evening.

Some students went home after the Lardprao police chief promised to bring those behind the shooting to justice.

  13. PAD proposing to change one article in the Constutution to find a legal way out of a stalemate situation. Samak wants to alter the laws to save his ass from prosecution. Don't you see the difference?

    --[snip]--

Yes, the first is blackmail, and the second is fraud. Next question...

So Sondhi goes to the media and proposes a legal way out of a situation, and you call it "blackmail".

He also proposed an interim government by PPP commited to political reform, is it also a blackmail?

Samak has to go simply for losing control and credibility, it doesn't even matter whether PAD is right/wrong/popular/unpopular - it's gone too far for Samak to stay. Let someone else sort out this mess.

Is there anyone left on that side of the fence who is NOT a criminal litigant AND who truly earned a valid university degree? :o

  14. It's interesting isn't it that the first person to die in these tensions was not a PAD supporter. Hmmm and I dont see in any of the pictures from the incident on Tuesday PAD using self defence techniques more like clubbing the opposition to death.

The opposition that got clubbed wasn't anywhere around for at least a hundred days, then decided to set up camp nearby, were intoxicated and WALKED TOWARDS the PAD rally weapons in hand, escorted by police with no resistance whatsoever, conveniently, the State of Emergency was declared once one was killed and 40 some hurt.

F* self-defence when a group intentionally marches towards and attacks an immobile group with deadly weapons.

Had they remained in Sanam Luang, none of this would have happened, it was clearly coordinated between police/DAAD/govt. to declare a State of Emergency which has had absolutely no purpose since then.

As always, you state facts that are in clear contradiction of eyewitness reports, i.e. PAD guards whipped up into a frenzy from the stage and then sent to repulse DAAD at the bridge. DAAD did not attack the PAD demo at Gov. Hse. Had they done so, the defence of "self-defence" could have been used.

see, thats how this stupid right wing brainwash propaganda works, just take a common hate object and the light brainer will believe you everything.

I figure that by now you`ve already seen the Google pics above regarding my use of the word immobile

AS far as I know, DAAD had a truck with loudspeakers rolling and following the drunker rioters along with a PPP MP or two holding a flag up front. Oh, let`s not forget the friendly police escort offering no resistance whatsoever, this over a distance of roughly 2 kilometers.

PAD were stationed at Makawan bridge, right next to Govt House.

  15. Sriracha John, Tony Clifton, Herr h90, Plus and others.

If the followign referndum question was asked, would you allow international election observers to monitor this and would you go along with the results?

    Question:

A group of demonstrators has seized some Government buildings and other areas in the capital and elsewhere. The police and army have been reluctant to enforce court orders to remove them, and some court orders are pending an appeal by the protestors. The elected Government is askng for the public's view on the following question.

Should the authorities the Royal Thai Police (and the military if required) be obliged to evict the protestors from the public places and Government premises if they do not leave voluntarily as requested by the Government?

    Yes?

    No?

Hard to say...these questions do not specify in time if this is BEFORE of AFTER a public inquiry into this very same known-to-be-corrupt and PPP party appointed police force voluntarily offering no resistance whatsoever against DAAD rioters prior to a deadly clash, even escorting them most of the way to their target area so that the PM can use the triggered situation to declare a state of emergency with the only purpose of assuming the government is in control when it is clearly not.

The same Police Chief and subordinates who gave orders then could very well still be in post.

    NO
