That could be a lame effort to convert an office nerd into a bad footballer. ???? But Thai people use their brains. Why would a Thai girl want to return to her village spellning bar girl all over.

I am sure there are many threads on the purpose of tatoos that I, as an uncool person, ought to read. But one question sticks out to me. If you walk for example soi Buhakao in Pattaya you see many heavily tatooed girls. Does this really improve their ability to work in bars? Could the tatoos not be a burden when they e.g. finally marry and return to their home village? So why do they get massively tatooed?

non-O visa through agents
thailandsgreat replied to thailandsgreat's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't know the theory of this. But for a while there was 800k in the pass book. Does BKK Bank really send a letter about 3 mo, or is the officer allowed to shorten the required time the balance must be present? Anyway I don't care so much. The law is how it is applied. I am mostly grateful to the guys here that directed me to this agency and I am back in the Kingdom we love. I lived in China long time. Every year I flew to Shenzhen and walked over the border to Hong Kong. I had a deck of business cards to different agents and paid the equivalent of $150-180 for another year's stay. All this was cancelled before the olympics. -
non-O visa through agents
thailandsgreat replied to thailandsgreat's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Made an application via Maneerat today. Price as quoted in this thread. They gave a professional impression. Will be without my passport for one month during processing. Got two new pass books at the bank since the passport number is visible in fluorescent light and I've got a new passport. It cost 200b. Seems well worth it, considering how many forms the friendly clerk had to fill out ???? -
non-O visa through agents
thailandsgreat replied to thailandsgreat's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Surprisingly the agent I had used twice before asked 60K for the usual 15 mo. I always had good relations with them, including social media. Their explanations for the price raise did not really fit with how I remembered the previous arrangements. At the same time a line of people waiting to extend their retirement visa had formed. It was so long that it almost ended in the bowl of guidiao gai I was eating in the restaurant beside! ???? They seem to have been directed to a room immediately right when entering immigration area in Jomtien, not inside the BOI office. In the process I also learnt that my bank accounts had fallen asleep due to low balance. Somehow they had been charged 50b every month for sleeping. I did not argue because I was happy the accounts could be woken up again, a process taking quite some time. Having a bank account gave me the opportunity to choose a phone number that is a little easier to remember, at True. They also told me that my bank accounts were connected to an old passport. Let's hope they will let me switch that even though I don't carry the old passport any more. That can only be done at issuing branch. It was possible to deposit to cure the sleepiness, though. Spoke to Maneerat today and they quoted the same price as given in this thread. So with a bit of luck I continue non-O with them next week. So thank you for the advice about Maneerat. It seems to be the best way at present. -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps

That sounds very good. I just stepped into my room which meets expectations. Uneventful trip. They gave out AIS cards in plane. But must be registered in their booth or via wifi. All the big providers had booths before customs. But I will go to True now. Had rudimentary "conversation" with friendly older taxidriver (not Isaan, this one spoke understandable Thai ???? ) with working meter in Bangkok. 100b from air link train to Ekkamai in rush. In Patts, the songtaews asked 70 to my place, 1 K further than Tuckom. They didn't object when I said I would maybe come back but I wanted to go immediately. The bike guys were in very friendly mood and asked 100, which I didn't want to push too hard. (Farlang at bus stn with two backpacks) Maybe Covid and Bolt have taken som zest out of them. There used to be an air link express but now only "city". I think the train had problems, not only during Covid. Also leased to private, I believe. It is not about the money so much. More about interacting with the locals. I noticed sets of three flagpoles from the bus. They carry 3 similar Thai flags. Was it always like that or didn't they use to carry royal flags, before. -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps

I hope the thread is also a little bit about the culture of มอเตอร์ไซค์รับจ้าง The sheds they stay in, the lucky charms in it, the well organized boards with who's next to drive, the (bamboo?) tool they use to call customers' attention (isn't it?). How to get a glimpse of Thai life, negotiating with them, without going too far. Better appreciate it before Bolt and Waze replaced them with Bangladeshians (?) who know nothing about Thailand and will crash into traffic in the next corner staring on the map in their cell. Did I go off topic here ???? -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps

I think 50B is for waiting for a songtaew to fill up at North Bus Station and go anywhere within the city? Also a good idea. Do you know which provider has the 49B sim at the airport. I hope they have enough data and phone for a Bolt booking. Bolt or similar will be the most efficient. But I will miss chatting with the drivers on the corner and ask what they are having for breakfast ???? Now just an anonymous guy in a helmet will drive up and you get on. Maybe he is some non-Thai who just stares at his Waze app, not observing traffic chaos? -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps
thailandsgreat replied to thailandsgreat's topic in Pattaya
No wonder these guys were trying to block a ride-sharing customer at Phuket airport, as I believe I saw in the papers. 41b from North bus to Tukcom is very reasonable. I get Bolt as soon as get sim-card. I would give 20 extra for the large backpack. It is not only about money. I will miss haggling with the drivers. It was one of not so many opoportunities to practice my basic Thai language. -

Pattaya South/dtâai. I usually stay around there. But now I go just a little further from the city. I hope I found a good deal with a swimmingpool that looks good. -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps
thailandsgreat replied to thailandsgreat's topic in Pattaya
So you can now use ride-hailing apps all over Thailand. I never tried them there. In CM transportation wasn't so easy. I enjoy chatting with the drivers but from P nuua bus to P dai with a backpack they will start haggling at 300B ???? If you stay in one place you get to know the drivers and get better prices. I got a bank account. I hope the visa agent I used to go to still has the same service. Visa from home is trickier, imho. It will be interesting to see the prices of Bolt -
Travel around Pattaya, ride-hailing apps

I may do that. But I also want to go to True and see if I can get my old number back, sometimes that has been possible. But I am not used to ride-hailing apps in Thailand. BKK taxis had good meters. And in Pattaya and CM I never used taxis. In Pattaya there were the bike drivers but not as common in CM as I remember. Lets see what prices the apps will give compared to the motorbike drivers? -
I have been away since Covid and come back to Thailand in about a week. I start in Pattaya for visa. I remember Pattaya as mostly motorbike taxis and the songtaeos for 10B. But are there ride-hailing apps. I usually go motorbike taxi from north bus to my hotel around Pattaya dai but the drivers at the bus station were getting bolder with prices. Would Bolt, Uber or others be good alternatives? Maybe I have to get out of the bus station before I book. I believe I read something about a lady not getting her ride at an airport, local drivers blocking her ride, was it in Phuket? ... maybe this is too optimistic. I would also need wifi. I will have no sim-card just coming from the airport.

Most exciting thing you have done in Thailand
thailandsgreat replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I found the name of the temple w/ bat cave: Wat Tham Pha Ya (Na Duang). Prepare to wash clothes if you enter the cave ???? That was also exciting. And also bring torch, no lighting like in Erawan. -

Erawan cave also interesting. But different from the bat cave, I forgot the name of that. -

Loei is great. Walk up pu-bo-bid or whatever its name was. Renting bike and going to a cave where millions of bats exited in the evening as the gongs of the temple sounded. Also getting help from the nice mae-bans washing the bat-stench out of the clothes afterwards ???? Chiang Khan touristy but nice. -

Having Shan people bring me over the border to stay with one of the armies in Shan State and see them parading. -
"The harridan fishwife you are talking about is my GFs Aunty." I just ask. Since a poster is related to the family in question, wouldn't the poster point out faults in the account, if there were any?
-
I didn't say I believe everything I hear. I can't judge this incident but if it wasn't true, wouldn't the people who claim to know the poster point out the discrepancies?
-
What I hear from there often sounds provincial ????

Please tell how you disagree. I have never lived in the famous province of Isaan. (But naturally visited there.) Are they respecting the farlang or regarding him as an ATM or naturally ... it depends on the person?
