  1. For me.. It's a myth..

'Thai people always pretend that they know, even if they don't'

It's a phrase commonly heard or seen on websites about Thailand.. But what do you think?

Is this true? I feel that Thais are not affraid to say they don't know... Only if there is significant pressure in that situation, like being

in a group or the type of question, status of that person etc..

Just wondering what you all think of this..

For me, I haven't really experienced this 'pretending they know' either. They either knew and told me the information I requested (which later turned out to be correct), or if they didn't know, notified me of such, perhaps with a small polite/embarrassed smile.

Interesting to read all the comments. I think it's the situation in wich the question is asked. If it's in a group, or even the type of question/situation.. A friend of mine wrote an article about Thai people not being able to swim, someone reacted he asked all his Thai friends, and they all answered: of course I can swim! I think it would be emberassing for everybody to openly admit they are not able to swim, not really Thai/face related.. I experienced numerous of ocassions where Thai people told me they did not know, or did it wrong.. I also experienced people pretending they know.. I just think the statement 'All Thais will pretend they know something' is false.....

  3. Just bought a iq2 . Now back in London can't make the internet work ..I think the frequency is wrong for lebara. But the 3 network goes on 2100 but still won't work APN s right . Any ideas if not I will send it back for my girlfriend to use...shame really its a nice phone

Yes this is true. A lot of European phones are not suitable for the Thai 3G bandwith, wich means that's also true for the other way around... Maybe the phone is not suitable for your provider in the UK, try to find out wich providers are using the right bandwith.

  4. is it in a flood zone? How much are the fees per sm? Do any of the units have views? Are things on the rise or decline? Do you use white songtaews out there? How is walking and biking? Thanks.

Can't answer all, but will try.

    - Yes, I guess it's a flood zone being quite near Nawarat bridge and her klong.

    - No info about fees per sm, but if you want I can give you the personal details of a belgian man owning a lot of condo's in PP.

    - No spectaculair views since there is not much to see. Most of the buidlings see each other, not a big deal.

    - I feel it's on the rise seeing the amount of effort put into construction. They also opened a small shop inside the condo and they also renewed the wi-fi log in system.

    - I drive bike so not using songteaws. Not a lot of traffic in the area so if you want to get to pak soi you have to walk. About 10 minutes.

    - Walking is OK, but going to 7 or having some ahaan sien kit by foot everyday does not sound so apealling to me. Biking is perfect, lot's of parking space available in front of the condo.

The condo is a bit out of the action wich is good. The area is very nice and calm. There are two small convenient stores, and a barber who does some excellent cutting and also washing of clothes. Condo has pretty stable internet. The staff speaks fair english and are always there to help out. They clean the building once in a while and renovate some stairs or pavements. Condo itself does not look super nice and also the inside is a bit standard.

If you want to come check it out just let me know.

  5. Hi all,

There is a wi-fi service in my condo, but it's very unstable at times. I noticed there is a pretty fair 3BB signal in this area.

I heard that there is a service to sign up to use the 3BB routers that 3BB itselfs has installed in many places. It works

with a code from your sms. Is that still the case? And if so, how does it work? How can i be sure this is really a public 3BB router?

The name of the connection is: 3BB - and is locked with a password. Could it be just someone's personal internet?

    Thanks for helping!

  6. I also don't know.. Should suggest to go to a I-mobile store. Will do that myself too, internet's just too low on information about these phones. Wish I could have some hands on expirience from some one that was used to an Samsung or HTC. Maybe if ThaiCBR reads this he could try to give an more detailed review of the phone.

  7. The tv wont work in england now no more terestrial signals.....do these i mobiles suport adobe flash....

Yes. My Q6 and my GF's Q4 does. Flash 11

    sent from my Q6

Saw the Q4 the other day in Tescos being sold at 4,000 baht. Very cheap. Any idea how much more for the Q6 and is there much difference beyond size?

That's in fact very cheap.. Almost to cheap to believe.. Not that I think you aren't telling the truth.. But there must be some comprimising on hardware in this phone to get it that cheap and still be running like a Samsung Galaxy..

  8. Well I guess you should find out what that red stamp was. If it said: You are blacklisted. You have no chance of coming in again I guess.. If it said something different, wich I can't think off you may be deported but not blacklisted... I guess the Thai Embassy in France should give you the answer to your question, if they can find out if you are on the black list or not your good to go (or not to go) easiest way..

  9. As a filmmaker, I enjoyed seeing this!

The cinematography is of high-class with some shots standing out as extremely well lighted.

I think you need to try and find a better balance between your cut, story and visual story telling. This feels unnatural sometimes as I feel the story is a bit 'over edited' I know it's a nice way to add more drama with these editing tricks and using somewhat dramatic music, but in the end I feel that was too much. It works on the slow cinematic travelings you do (on a slider?) but there are some parts where there are so many cuts, that shots don't connect to me.

Amazing story, and the dream of any filmmaker coming true on having that meeting between the women and the 'little boy'!

    Great job!

  10. I went to Loy Kroh, which was fun, then took a tuktuk to the reggae area, which was even better. (bypassing the Thapae crowd through the sois). Then walked back, by 1am it was easy to walk through the Thapae area. Good night.

Just a little disappointing that there were literally ZERO police checkpoints in active operation. They engage in cone-arrangement just for fun it seems, then go AWOL.

Find that too... I drove back home at 3AM (being a little dizzy of beers) and did not see one cop around.. Before new year some streets and highway entries where full of check points but it seemed that at the moment supreme they all went missing.

That's because the have already lined their pockets before the big party.

That would make sense. They need money and time off to party also. It beats the over regulated "official" parties back in Canada. I enjoy watching people have a good time. I did and even had time for a bit of a walk the next day.

It makes sense in this country..
