  1. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I wish I had gone to Furama! Tapae gate was packed had to walk inches by inches literally, wife got sick had to head back home early didn't see much.

On the 360 Panorama roof of Furama hotel. Best view ever, lot of firework in Chiang Mai.

Sorry to hear that man! Now you have even more reason to go to Furama next year smile.png

Did you have to have reservations? Was it a set menu or just of the menu?

Fantastic view any time of the year from there.

Lot of people up stairs. My girlfriend works at Furama so I had no reservations or so. We just went up with all staff to celebrate (since my gf had a late shift) Very nice view indeed!

  2. I have read this topic only now and all I can say is this: thank you, Shaggy, for your kindness in helping Foxie in his predicament. This world is a better world because of people like you.

    100% agree.

  3. Think that's true. I know this happens in hotels all the time. If a staffmember forgets something, or makes a mistake like not asking for a creditcard or something like that, if there is any loss in money the employee responsible has to pay that. Same for housekeeping. They always check the minibar. If housekeeping is lazy and tells the front desk the mini bar is still full, finding out later that some drinks are gone.. that housekeeper has to go to 7-eleven and buy new drinks of her own money.

  4. Thanks for reply's! Will get my hands on one of these devices.

Any idea if the TV tuner will work in Europe?

I don't think it has the correct frequency. It does not work very well here smile.png

Thanks! Imagined it would get some funny reactions when taking that antenna out in Europe.

  6. Happy new Year Foexxie. It's indeed cruel that saying 'good to know that she is in prison' has some of a positive meaning in this story..

If you have some spare money I would consider going to Thailand, see her in jail or wait till she's free again. If she is indeed not accepting your money, she probaly already accepted the 1 month in prison. I know Thai prisons are not very comfy, but I think she might come out quite OK being in there for 1 month. If you see her in real life (better yet for yourself to actually see her sitting in the prison for your own mindset) you can work out what is happening.... With her.. Not her brother, father, mother or whatever....

Best of luck. And very sorry to hear about your mother.

  7. Just on the illegal software bit. I know a guy (Dutch) who made t-shirts using illegal Adobe Photoshop software. They found out and gave him a 40.000 euro fine (1.6 million baht)

Of course if he could not pay the money, he had to serve time in jail. Eventually he paid...

    To the OP.

Best of luck with this. If you can't find help, I would recommend you to send an e-mail to [email protected]

Write about your problem, and I'm sure they will help you set up an article where you can get some more info + some Belgium people with Thai wives to help on the translation/calling etc. My advise: Try to go to Thailand and try to find out here. It's extremely difficult to get things done with 10.000 km in between.

    Veel geluk en succes.

  8. Did it yesterday.

Morning the VIP to Chiang Rai, took a minivan to Mae Sai. Songtaew to the amphoe office (For girlfriend). Motorbike taxi to the border. Shopping in Tachilek (beer, wine etc) back with motorbike to Mae Sai busstation. Minivan to Chiang Rai busstation. Visit to Wat Rong Khun. VIP bus back to Chiang Mai. Left 6:45 AM back at 9.30 PM.

Hey, and you are now back safe and sound! What more could you ask for? It's all an adventure anyway.

Quality post man, keep it up....

  10. Thanks for answers! To be honest, I did not really notice the price difference. In fact Macknife is right. The same 100 baht simply gives me me more 95 in the tank.. So I guess that's why. This morning I was driving full speed when suddenly the bike made a schreeching noise, gave some smoke and just stopped completely... Did take a while for him to get back up again, but now it's running like a charm.. Made me think of the whole gas debate, wich maybe could have caused this... But of course it also could have been something else.

  11. Hi all,

I don't have any knowlegde about motorbikes nor the physics of these kind of machines.

I am just wondering if anyone has this of experience.

I drive an 125 CC automatic MIO wich is fair on gas. I used to fill it up with 91 benzine.

Last week I changed to try the 95 nitro that they sell at the BP station's. I feel my bike can make quite more distance on the same

100 baht 95 nitro then on the 91 benzine.

Could that be correct? And if so.. Why is that? Does it mean one of them is more suitable for the bike? Or am i just making things up here.

I did not keep any record yet on about how much more I can actually drive, but will do.

  12. True enough it is a sham....

Also agreed English translations are crap but people can stumble through on basic common sense if they have some skill in driving. Driving here without having the ability to stumble through this test after a few attempts is not (IMHO) just an English language/translation issue. Perhaps the guy genuinely needs constructive help rather than just how to pass the test.

I worry for the safety on who cannot pass the sham.

    True story..

  13. just tried to make a booking for the trip to Chiang Rai. It's in Thai and no response when trying to change to English.

I just came back from the bus station having booked a round trip for tomorrow. It's easy, go there, get a number (on the right side of the windows) wait for your call and book. 2 hours ago lot of times where still available for tomorrow (did not expect that since going to Mae Sai etc is fully booked these days)

  14. At the risk of incurring the eternal wrath of some posters......

Maybe, just maybe he should study more for the test.

Maybe, just maybe, if he can't pass the test he should not get a license.

There are more than enough bad (licensed and unlicensed) drivers on the road.

I would hate to be in a position where I "helped" someone pass a test and then they ended up scrambled eggs on the concrete, or worse scrambled someone else.

Perhaps study with a driving school and they may be able to assist/navigate through the test, many I would presume, have "business relations" with the licensing authority.

The roads can be dangerous enough as it is.....why add to it, for others and for your friend. Assist him and let him pass the test with a degree of confidence rather than slip/slide through.

I see your point. But understand that even for people that know a fair amount of English language do struggle with the crazy translations and weird questions stated in that exam.. I can imagine that being poor in reading will result in major difficulties. It's not that if you can't read in English, you can't drive.

  15. Think that's a no go... Maybe the best thing to do is just to take the test as many times in one language as possible. Just keep on telling them you don't understand. The variation of questions is not too much so I guess that after 4 tests, there is no way you can fail again since you can see what you did wrong on the other 4, and even better: what you needed to answer to get it right. After doing a couple of tests you will know pretty much all the right answers because they simply gave them to you.

Think that will work, but correct me if i am wrong.

  16. Hi all,

Having my HTC Desire for more then 2 years now, it's slowly giving up on me. Reboots all the time, battery life is about half a day (yeah)

the list goes on and on... Not bad for an HTC to run 2 years tough.

I found some interesting information about the I-mobile serie. The Q1 etc. These phones look really interesting to me.

Cheap prices, brand names that I'm not familliar with are always giving me some nerves. It's cheap, but for what I read it is supossed to be really good. Is that really true?

Could IQ owners give me some first hand user-info?

For example: Is the Q1 in same range as an Samsung Galaxy S2? What about the screen? Is the phone fast? Is it reliable? Good service? etc.

Excited to hear all your stories. I'm really considering buying one of these.

Also, the Q1 has the TV reciever in it. I'm keen to know if it's possible to use it abroad... Any idea? (Europe)

    Thanks.
