  1. I have yet to be bitten, my wife has been slighty touched by two different dogs sofar and both have been owned but allowed to roam free outside the yard/house of the owner. So not your typical free-roaming street dogs.

Again, as mentioned before, people have no clue what responsibility means here.

I personally know of two separate cases where the dog has bitten the owner(Thai) quite severely.

EDIT: At home, not on the street.

  2. I once had a Taxi driver who, seeing a traffic cop, managed three English words; Police bad, motherf###### police.

On average most are nice fellows, some not. That case don't get in or get out, no pay. :o

  3. This poll is purely hypothetical since straydogs are Thai's and their government's problem.

But it would be interesting to see the results from TV members.

Obviously there should be laws in effect such as dogs must always be held on a leash when on public areas, droppings must be collected immediately, and all pets such as dogs must be registered and carry a tag on the collar at all times. This would be not unreasonable would it? And could be made reality quite easily.

So please imagine these laws would be IN effect when voting on the poll.

    Thank you.

An interesting fact: When about 20 1st year doctoral students of economics in Finland last year were asked should the horse & dog meat be made available in stores almost 80% answered yes.

  4. Just another Pattaya hooker trying to make a quick buck.

Could you pass on the source saying she was a hooker?

Regardless, how could she possibly benefit from the guys death? She was not his wife and by the sounds of his living arrangement (staying in a spare room in a one-storey house of her friend) he sure doesn't seem to have much.

Some posters may consider putting brain in gear before engaging mouth. :o

Way out of line. But it's more than 50% probability to be correct.

  5. I would never book these "conveniently located mass tourist hotels" at Silom, very few are near skytrain stations. Anyway what is at Silom? Mostly rip offs.

Patumwan Place, Soi Kasemsan 1, just opposite MBK and very close the other main shopping areas, Siam sq., Discovery, Paragorn, etc. 1-200m. from the skytrain station (National Stadium), 1000-1,200/night THB last year prices, very nice hotel style room though it's more like an apartment. On same soi many cheaper options as well.

Mobiles same price here as Europe, maybe no have international warranty or do have fake parts. Don't bother. Buy electronics only from brand name shops, Sony, Nokia etc. NOT at the market if you want (almost) guaranteed quality, better yet buy it at home for the same price if possible.

I hate Phantip, some like it though, go rather to Fortune at Ratchada, same stuff only x30 not x1000. Same prices, except if you have needs for some hard to find stuff. Easy transport too, Fortune, just next to subway Rama IX station.

For everything else possible garp and crap I think Suanlum Night Bazaar wins Jatujak Weekend market, at least you can get through it in one long evening, open everyday, mostly same shops at both.

  6. I would be interesting to have a debate about the possible connotations of "Farang" in Thailand and abroad.

What comes to 2nd an 3rd generation people of Indian decent, who have integrate much in to the thai society are still called Gaek, "guests". If you ask bout them from an average Thai they don't like them because they are different, they smell and always cheat Thais. (I could say they have higher culture than Thais, being much older race) but that would be racist wouldn't it.

My conclusion would be that Asians are worlds most racist people but are able to hide it in the complex social structures. Same goes for westerners (if you allow the term) when talking about corruption.

  7. Post # 65, Address to the MOderators. So now pics of death are allowed? Was not so a year ago. I have no problem seeing death, have seen enough in 26 years. Last time some peope did have a problem. I demand a clear explanation!

  9. I went into the only supermarket here in Chumphon, it is called Ocean, anyway I paid with a debit card and signed my slip while I was signing the cashier took out a HUGE ledger type book where she proceeded to look at my card and start writing the details down, thankfully I speak enough Thai to stop her immediately, I took all the receipts and paid by cash instead. I called and cancelled my card as soon as I left the store. This book was absolutely full anybody else experience this ????

You could see from the book that they were writing down expiration dates and the code on the back. ON returning to this store I have noticed that they have one of these HUGE books under each register. !!!!!!!!!

No, but wouldn't be surprised. I only use debit card here an no problems so far.

Inform this to what ever the palace is, my friends' credits have been closed after only moving to malaysia after thailand, anycase of fraud report an you will be credited back by visa.

what are you trying to say - makes no sense at all :o

    Refrace:

This book was absolutely full anybody else experience this ???? - NO

Contact your credit card dealer the least.

If your card has been copied etc. You will likely get refunds.

    Added:

If you're so concearned why not call police/tourist polle on the scene? At least go to the police station to file a report?

Still not clear, pardon my keyboard.

  11. I'd bet that protesting is really exciting for these monks. It beats sitting around a temple out in the middle of nowhere all day. There's definitely new life in Thailand with so many people getting involved in this or that protest. People are more active and they are thinking more about the country they live in, its rights and wrongs. Politicians are going to be able to get away with things so easily anymore. Let the protesting continue. I can't wait for the big colorful Transvestites for Democracy parade to begin or is it for Democrazy.

    1. Where do you see "thinking" in this protest, and what is it?

    2. Do you honestly believe every one of these individuals decided to go protest followed by their own thinking process?

    3. It should be the time of rains retreat, no?

  12. Is this Buddhism?

Why do they need to make this the state religion?

If they do, how will this help them?

Isn't the religion already sufficiently endorsed by the government?

Are they aware of the fact that there are thousands of severely pissed-off Muslims in the South?

    Here we go again!

This isn't really about Buddhism. It's about politics.

A certain sect with strong links the TRT is known to be a big player behind the push to make Buddhism the state religion.

This has more to do with de-stabilizing and discrediting the current gov't than the religion itself. In other words, using the name of religion to advance a political agenda. Now where have I seen that happen before? How very un-Buddhist. Shame on them.

They are simply out of their mind. They scare people with alleged non existing mass murders of Buddhists in India and other foreign countries, lots of Dhammakaya around.

    Sectarian brainwashed fanatics.

Exactly, religious fanatics. Sounds somehow familiar. Any pictures?

Members of Sangha should have a lot less business to interfere to politics than His Majesty does.

    Where is this all going?

  13. Maybe he did get them in debt but he is the only one who showed any interest. For this, they will still cheer him and never give up the hope that he will come back some day. There's a lot of very unhappy Thai's out there today and I don't think the battle is over yet.

He showed interest in them because his strategy was a populist platform. There is a debate to be had as to whether they were actually any better off as a result of his policies but he certainly was. I had a girlfriend who told me he would be good for Thailand as he was rich already so he wouldn't just be interested in money like his predecessors. 5555555. He left office a lot richer than he started.

He certainly is/was a lot richer when he left office and I'm not disputing what you are saying. What I am saying is, try telling the Thai's that. They either wouldn't believe you, or, they just don't want to know!

Or maybe many Thais think he deserved to get richer, hasn't that been the name of the game forever. Question is what good did he do in between, lot more than many of his predecessors. And are the People really ready to make some changes. Now, there is a chance for big changes at least. Is the population ready for that, I don't think so.

  14. The thieves must have scanned through the baggage which was in the baggage compartment of the bus. They had plenty of time on a long journey. I assume they steal other things as well, maybe copying passports and credit card numbers and that is what they primarily do.

Who would place such items (passports & credit cards) in the baggage compartment? NO, NO, NO-ONE.

Good luck with your complaints and law suits. I am a person who believes you can change the world by your actions.

But you must understand that in Thailand these (workers) thieves in the bus are just lackeys, bus company, the owners cousin The big police man, his uncle a judge and all his ex-mp friends. Higher you go up the chain the bigger criminals you will be facing. Hope none of these involved own guns. :o:D :D

  15. To the OP you must be joking.

"baggage was scanned and money and bank cards were stolen. The bank cards were used to withdraw money from an ATM machine while the bus was on its way. They were put back into the baggage so the theft was realised only a few days later when it turned out that the account was "empty"."

You are not telling us where your luggage were located?

IF this is true you were asking for it so take it as it comes.

Firstly I would never take any of those Khaosan trips. They are notorious of all kinds of scams.

Go to the gov. bus station.

I once had an item stolen from a bag on the up-shelf in a bus 7 years ago while asleep. A nice 3 inch switch blade that could open a coconut. They left me my camera but took a pic inside the bus though. :o

  16. Some US soldiers call Iraqi kids (Iraqipaki) although there is no mixed blood ppl of those 2 races in Iraq :D ,till now I wanna find out why they had used that term to call those miserable kids. :D

so its really common to be degraded or insulted by racist slurs as (Macaca) just for being not from a certain race or religion. :o

That truly is a derogatory and offensive term by its connotation. And they (the cogs of the great USA machinery of war) are still wondering why nobody likes us here? After all we are helping these people...

    :D
