  1. Maybe the ones with the bigger panel on the top? Sorry no idea

The next house in my Village bought 3 small one a few months back, fine they came on as soon as it got dark and then got weaker and by 9pm had gone out.. So no good at all, as they leave for work in BKK @ 4:50 am and return home between 9 - 9:30 pm..... last weekend they had an electrician come and install electric one on a timer.

That was my experience also, maybe 2 hours of pretty dim (and pretty worthless) light.

  2. I think most people's perceptions of Singapore are shaped heavily by visiting the city area ... Orchard Road (particularly on this forum as the Thai embassy happens to be there) - Suntec - Boat Quay - Sentosa etc ...

Try going out to, say, Woodlands, and a different, far cheaper version of Singapore emerges. I still wouldn't say it is going to be cheap compared to upcountry Thailand, but do you need to be a millionaire to live comfortably there? I think not...

The most reasonable comment so far.

    :)

Singapore is more expensive than other SE Asian countries, Yes, but how much more expensive is really down to the individual.

You can sit downtown and pay $20 for a beer or move out to the heartlands and get it for $4

  3. I have never found any that are actually effective, I ended up putting them by the path so in the wee small hours there would be just enough light to get to the door without turning on the actual garden lights!

No use for anything else, though.

  4. A lot depends on where they live and how well off they are (or aren't).

Their expectations wil be very different if they live in a nice house in the suburbs of Bangkok than if they live in rural Nong Khai or Khon Kaen.

A big box of birds nest soup or chicken essence would normally be appreciated

  5. I'm Thai living in Australia. I wonder what would happen to me if I tried to steal things here and said it was just a prank and then verbally abused the police.

Phuket police went too easy on her. She could go to jail for that abuse and bribery. She actually needs to thank them.

I'm so glad that she wont go back to Thailand.

    :):D:D

    The best post so far.

  6. Personnally my biggest problem with this thread is the number of idiots who post without reading the facts of what happened.

The bar owner was not there at the time of the incident.

The bar owner did not press charges, the police have.

The woman is 36 (not 60 as someone wrote)....

I could go on but I am bored already and wondering why I even bothered.

  7. Strange coincidences.

Thaksin's Sister and daughter left Thailand for Singapore.

Thaksin yesterday flew out of Dubai to an "un-named African Country" on his new Nicaraguan passport.

I hope he remembers that what goes around comes around.

On another point ... 5 minutes of sustained firing from an AK 47 and an M16.................only 100 rounds ?????

I cannot claim to be ex-SAS or Navy Seals as so many of our compatriots around here, but that doesn't sound right to me.

And I hope the old guy recovers, but maybe now he really should think of retirement.

  8. What wonders this guy has done for the reputation of the "Walking Street" Farang Tourist Police Volunteers (or whatever they are actually meant to be called).

In the video he comes across as one arrogant SOB, the bit where he grabs the "lady's" ID card is bang out of order, and I won't even start on the Pepper Spray Issue. Who does he think he is ? He is the one that was brought down to be questioned !

Personally I believe that if Howard wants his stormtroopers to have any kind of respect at all he should dismiss this guy immediately. And I hope the lovely lady's get an assault case to hold against him.

    :o

  9. Goat Sh1t.

A couple of hundred grams tied up in a stocking, place it in a bucket of water. After the plants start flowering use this water once a week, just keep topping the bucket up with fresh water. Try to apply it into the soil around the plant and keep it away from the leaves and stalks as it can sometimes burn the plant.

    It worked for me.

  10. I remember reading some time ago about a Nursery or Horticultural Research Centre which was located just outside Korat City. I think it was on the west side somewhere near the Zoo but I may be wrong.

Anyway, does anyone know what I am referring to and if so could they tell me where it is.

    Thanks

    John

    John...

There are lots of big nurseries along Highway 2 just south of Pak Chong...that is not too far from you...

    Stoneman

    Heading there this afternoon.

    Thanks

    John
