  1. I remember reading some time ago about a Nursery or Horticultural Research Centre which was located just outside Korat City. I think it was on the west side somewhere near the Zoo but I may be wrong.

Anyway, does anyone know what I am referring to and if so could they tell me where it is.

    Thanks

    John

  3. On Tuesday Evening, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiyaporn from Banglamung Police Station was called to the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien following the discovery of a badly decomposed body in undergrowth.

The Officer arrived and inspected the body which is thought to be that of a foreigner due to the large size of the corpse. It is thought the man had been dead for many days due to the state of decomposition.

No identification could be found for the man, however a bottle of insect killer was found nearby and Police suspect the man may have committed suicide at the location.

The body was discovered by a bulldozer driver who had stopped to urinate in the bushes. A post mortem examination is now underway as Police await confirmation of how the man died and who he is.

I wonder how they figure these things out ?

  4. I LOVED his first two films - Kickboxer was set in Thaland.

He was handsome and charming and a decent martial artist. His main mistake was trying avoid being typecast as a Karate Star.

If he had stayed with the martial arts films - instead of trying to switch over to action star - but selected his scripts more carefully, he might be up there with Bruce Lee!

    You mean Dead ??

    :o

  5. There's a new Spa (opened by Thai's off course) around the corner from my house. The newly finished sign reads, and I am not joking.... "Fish Reflexology". Can someone explain to me what this is????????????????

Signed.. in desparate need of help...

From the Fish Reflexology Spa in Singapore

Experience a unique and revitalizing therapy, complete with a foot massage at Fish Reflexology, Underwater World. With soft lightings, calming sonance of a river stream and feet relaxed in a warm pool, witness a school of Turkish spa fish swim up and gently nibble on your feet. These adorable little fish consume only the dead skin areas, revealing your smoother and healthier skin - the perfect way to exfoliate and pamper your feet.

absolutely horrendous if you are ticklish !

  6. As I have said before, Pattaya has been ruined by the Thais, particularly the Politicians and the Police.

If the Politicians had cleaned the place up and improved the infastructure.......

If the Police had ever seriously clamped down on crime, jailed the offenders and deported the unwelcome........

    :o

  7. I have not seen one that size but there are places on the left side of the southern end of 3rd road (after Pattaya Tai junction).

The definately sell fish, pumps, supplies.

  8. Pattaya is rightly called the 'Extreme City'. And most 'outsiders' view of it is a function of that stereotype.

You might be surprised that there a a lot of semi-normal people that live here too, expats with families working in the surrounding industrial zones, happily married retirees, offshore workers and so on. More than our fair share of alcoholics, granted (thats an expat thing), but where I live the sex scene is low key- really more of a tourist thing, you soon tire of it when it's on your doorstep. But hey, why is the fact we've got a huge red light area a problem to a resident? you don't have to go there unless you choose to. And the tourist scene brings it's benefits too.

Maybe it's not for everyone (where is?) but actually it can be a very good place to live.

I live on the 'darkside' about 8-10 km from the centre. Married, not a monger (well usually :D ), and probably cross Sukhumvit about twice a month. Consider-

Sizable farang community- of all shapes, sizes & nationality. You're not short of company.

Supermarkets, bars and restaurants- plenty of choice, and cheap.

    Decent (and improving) infrastructure

Easy accesibility to the airport, Bkk, and the beaches & seafood restaurants of southern Chonburi & Rayong

The weather is mainly great- much better than Bkk or Phuket imho. Theres usually a breeze to keep things mild.

Very reasonably priced- Ok it's not Isaan, but us locals wince when we go to Bkk or Phuket.

Loads of activities- golf, sport flying, fishing, lawn bowls, darts & pool leagues, theme parks- you name it. I doubt many places of this size offer the sheer variety of Pattaya.

Unless you foolishly ride a motosai without a helmet, you are never bothered on the roads here- I guess the BIB have more lucrative pursuits. :o I have a place in Ubon too, and this aspect is a real downer of going upcountry. :D

On the 'Thai' side, the multifaceted community means there is food and produce from all over Thailand- my wife reckons the local markets are great, and cheap.

If there is a 'secret' to Pattaya, it is that there is a sizable, quieter community living here that lead basically normal lives- and we benefit from the considerable tourist numbers that come here.

If there is a 'Downside' to Pattaya, ultimately it's of your own making. With the wide availability of the venal pleasures here, I've seen a few people crash and burn.

Probably the best post I have read on the never ending debate about the good and bad of Pattaya. People who have lived and worked in the area have a far better understanding than the man from Bangkok or Manchester who visited once for a weekend.

  9. Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that in future in all cities, markets and in the country, the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops and Water.

    Reinheitsgebot

Signed: Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria on April 23, 1516 in Ingolstadt.

But no sugar or yeast.......................how does that work then ?
