  1. Therefore we could reasonably conclude that one of the other people drinking the same water could have passed something onto you which made you sick

Poured into glasses biggrin.png your honour, no ice before someone blames that

  2. So you have a doctors letter stating this ?...I am purposely be facetious to illustrate a point

Unless you have scientific evidence conclusively connecting your illness to the restaurant all you have is an opinion that eating at the restaurant on two occasions caused your illness

I accept what you say, but I am only talking hypothetically. I was bad last week from 1 meal and it was the only thing I had eaten for about 36 hours apart from bottled water so there was no room for mistake. It was this happening that made me start thinking about the defamation issues.

So if I had had 2 bad meals, before I could report/tell/print anything I would need certified proof that I knew the cause ?

Maybe the reason for getting sick is exactly that you don't eat regularly and your stomach did throw up because it was too much after too long time with no food... mayb the reason for getting sick was some bacteria that you did catch up somewhere completely different... maybe the reason for getting sick was that your stomach could not deal with some of the ingredients from the food you had, like some curry ingredients that your stomach does not like... maybe lot of other reasons...

And if you want to "prove" that it was the restaurant... you would have to have your vomit examined... you would need to have health & food inspectors sent to the restaurant to check them out... find other people who also got sick in the same time in the same restaurant... that is what in Europe would be needed for proof that it's the restaurants fault... and also here, you would get a defamation suit against you, if you don't have any proof, which you clearly don't

We are talking hypothetically, calm down

So how do you know it wasn't the water ?

The point I am getting at this is the reason there are defamation rules and laws is to stop people making unproven accusations against people and businesses.

In your hypothetical example, you have accused a restaurant of causing your illness, stated it publicly in writing but you have yet to provide any evidence or facts which support your claim that the restaurant caused your illness, if the restaurant now looses business over your accusations, they would be within their rights to sue you for deformation

Big bottle - other people drinking

  5. Thai law is concerned with people losing face unnecesarrily. That result in that two criteria must be met in order for something to be not considered defamation:

    1. What you told must be the truth.

    2. What you told must be in the public intrest and outweighing the resulting loss of face.

On Thaivisa we do not like posts making allegations as we cannot determine what the truth is.

Therefore 2 bad meals from the same establishment must be "must be in the public intrest and outweighing the resulting loss of face" or not ?

On Thaivisa we do not like posts making allegations as we cannot determine what the truth is - on a different note I find that comment strange as there are many mistruths posted on here

Having 2 bad meals is an opinion not a fact anyway

Having 2 meals that make you ill is fact not an opinion

  7. This word comes up a lot on this forum. I get confused by it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation

If I go to a restaurant and have a bad meal which actually makes me ill & this is the only place I have eaten in the last 36 hours, how do I warn others that there might be a problem. I used to be in catering & I know that caterers can have a bad day, might not always be their fault, but if I go to a place twice & am bad twice I personally think that the public deserve to be at least warned that there could be a problem.

If you are telling the truth, where is the defamation ??

  8. If you come out of Kosa Hotel and head straight under the bridge type thing, there is a little office on the left. Owned by local policeman. I used to use them a few years ago and never had any trouble with them. There are also a few around the Pullman, Leo Bar area & not heard any bad reports recently. You also have the international brands at the airport. Many to choose from

  9. There are two bus terminals in Khon Kaen, although that should change this month.

I presume the "Godland Station" is he new bus terminal, which is ready but not yet in use.

I also presume when this new bus station will be opened all taxi's and tuktuks now serving the present terminal will serve the new one.

Also, there is a new diret bus service from Khon Kaen to Hua Hin.

They have started to use new bus station - its only 3 kms from centre & I believe there are shuttle buses to take to old bus station & VIP Station in town

  10. Anyone that leaves Phuket willingly for KK either is bored of life, or, is under the thumb of their KK wife (IMHO).

I normally respect your views...............................but that is clap trap. I left Phuket as it became too full of idiotic farangs (them that always know better). Moved to KK Isaan, enjoy it.

    Different Different

ps - I am definitely not under the thumb

  11. Is it not possible to send the passport direct to the UK by DHL, and thus pay the same charges as a resident would.?.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

If you send straight to uk, they expect old passport with the application & the correct exit stamps to be in it. You also have to bear in ind they would also lose the extra profit income for their service.

As I said previously, I believe all passports have to be sent back to the UK by the holders, of course with complete documentation etc. However, as was the case with me in China, if you are in a country where you are supposed to carry your passport at all time, they allow you to hold the passport, but you must send copies of the actual details page.

The infuriating thing is that as soon as the passport office in the UK receive your renewal application, they immediately cancel that old passport, why they cannot do that the day they post your new one back to you is totally beyond me.

That would be too sensible for them too do whistling.gif

  12. Are there any reports whether DHL have a special deal/rate to the UK, as previously offered when the Hong Kong route.

You do not need special delivery to the uk as you are only sending application form & credit card permission. Send by EMS cheap & efficient. /CurrentOld passport stays with you in Thailand so if application goes missing then no real problem

  13. a lot of fast replies before 8am! the power of thaivisa

actually, i travel on my US passport, that's where my Thailand visas are. i just like to keep my UK passport valid in case i ever want to use it in the future.

i guess i could send it to my brother in the UK and have him send it in, sounds like it may be a cheaper option.

that seems the best option - saves the double pricing as well

  15. Although you send to Hong Kong, passport renewal applications are being processed in the uk along with mainland uk applications. Hong Kong send to uk. They charge an extra fee (£25.00 ish) to send out to you in Thailand, which I suppose is part of not having to in god forsaken country (uk). What I find totally unacceptable is they charge approx £128.. for 32 page page passport, but if you were in the uk, £74.00 !!!!!!!! Same process remember.

I am in dialogue with them at moment & already they have used 2 different reasons for their double charging discriminate actions. Thieving barstewards in my eyes

  16. Pullman should be OK - There is a Thai club at the back of hotel, but just noisy on weekends. Try to get room at front of hotel. I stayed in Pullman when it was Sofitel & probably one of best hotels I have stayed in. I have stopped in quite a few hotels throughout my travels
