  1. On Speedtest.net - uk server - 5Mbs & 350 ms latency.

Is there a better / more efficient way or do I live with Skypes minor problems

What destination (s) are you calling? I use different programmes for different destinations.

BTW skype sign in on my iPhone - just tried .

Edit: sorry missed you call the UK - that one I Skype as primary and magic jack as back up with top up minutes.

Magic Jack - looks like you need a dongle of some description that can only be delivered to USA or Canada

All over, but always land lines.

  3. I use Skype to call to uk. I get 8MBs download & 47ms ping/latency, but recently the quality has dropped considerably. Does anyone use a competitor that they find better for similar pricing ?

  4. I want to connect my computer to television to watch youtube etc. Computer does not have a HDMI output and ave been told to try and get a USB to HDMI lead. Can this be bought mail order within Thailand ??

  5. Let me get this straight: If the cashier had bothered talking to you, you would have had another three beers?

    Needy mate, very, very needy.

You not got straight - I may of stayed for a few more beers, but why ?? If your happy to sit in a bar looking at the rear end of a phone, then it is obviously your choice. I was just airing my choice wai2.gif

  6. @terak,

I would hate them too if they found a smart phone more interesting as me. So you can either hate the smartphones or become more interesting.

A really interesting observation - please advise me on how I can be more interesting to a person that has just bumped into me in Central cause he/she had their nose stuck onto a 4 inch screen and was not watching where they were going ?

  7. I do not know if it is just me or is my dislike for these smart phones a common feeling. I am fed up with users bumping into me because the are using video or playing a game as they walk around the shopping centres. I was in a bar over weekend and cashier just sat playing on phone, (she showed me the game), I had 1 beer, normally have 3 or 4, told her that was why bar was quiet, paid bin & went.

I understand they have their uses, but the world (I assume) is becoming addicted to these sad appliances in the wrong places.
Gone to check my emails on smart phone !!!! whistling.gif

  9. "Mate wake up to yourself..one cannot simply apply for a retirement visa with a ''visa exemption stamp''..this is undeniable fact!!

One must initially apply for a non immigrant O visa to support an application for a one year retirement extension [wrongly called retirement visa]..got it now?"

This can all be done in country if you qualify

  10. I had to leave Thailand and go to a Thai embassy to get a 60 day tourist visa in order to start the process with a proper VISA. As luck would have it I had a short trip planned just before my 30 day VISA EXEMPT STAMP expired.

In stead of applying for a tourist visa you could of course also have applied for a retirement visa.

I was in Singapore and the only visa they would issue was a tourist visa, no non-immigrant O and no retirement visa. Besides, I thought you could only apply for a retirement visa in Thailand. Isn't that correct?

You can convert a TR Visa into a retirement extension in the same way as a 15/30 day stamp

  11. The 15 day stamp entry by land, or, the 30 day entry by air (whatever you want to call it) can be upgraded to a Non-Imm retirement visa at Phuket immigration without leaving the country as long as all other requirements are fulfilled.

These are the 800K for two to three months and a letter from your bank, plus photocopies of pages from your passport and your bank-book.

Almost KB. It will ( entry stamp for 30/15 day stay ) allow you to obtain a non-immigrant "O" visa which will support your application

for an visa extension ( valid for 1 year ) on the grounds of retirement, in my case without leaving the country.

You have to have 7 clear days left on your 15/30 day entry stamp or they will not entertain it.

2000 Baht for your O Visa

1900 Baht for your retirement extension

1000 or 4800 for re-entry stamps if required

  12. Glad you lot are not running the Immigration Offices - what a carry on

Yes especially the swedish guy who doesn't have a firm grasp of English.

Anyway this shows how confusing the whole issue can be..its up to the person you deal with at immigration on the day..its in their hands entirely as to what you are told..and what they will do for you.

That is probably the best way to describe. Totally up to them.

The Swedish guy has been there years and is very good at dealing with the Scandinavians apparntly

  13. "They will give you a non imm O visa if you meet the requirements and after 3 months you can ,if you choose to it be extended 'based on retirement' if you met those requirements.."

No they don't - If you meet the requirements they will sell you a NoN O for 2,000 Baht, stamp it in your passport and cancel it. They will then give you a retirement extension for 15 months

  14. Land has shot up here in the last few years. She has already had a fairly good bid from a thai/chinese man, who obviously knows what he is doing as he is a large land owner in the area unlike the 2 previous poster who seem to be a little backward in their knowledge of Isaan land prices
