    Update on my dislocated IOL:

Another doctor, more tests. The IOL is dislocated but it’s still in the capsular bag and is intact.  The hospital is obtaining approval from my insurance company, and I’ll have surgery in a few weeks, under general anesthesia.

I had both cataracts removed under general anesthetic by Dr Prin at Bumrungrad hospital and I beg to differ with Sheryl for once. Dr Prin is an amazing Dr and he saved me from almost certain blindness. He is expensive but fortunately the French SS picked up 50% of the tab.

    Hi everyone.

After I posted an update earlier today, and reading some of the latest replies, I will give a further update/review of my recent and current circumstances.

The 2nd alcoholic rehabilitation centre that I attended in chiang mai, and not the 1st rehabilitation centre I attended in chiang rai, were excellent. They got me back on my feet, able to walk now unassisted.

I am still suffering with extreme anxiety issues, which the local psychiatrist has not been able to help me with.

I am on a very slow road to recovery.

I don't know or understand when my acute alcoholism took over my life?

2 years ago I was extremely fit and healthy, going small dinghy sailing for 3 to 4 hours nearly every day.

My Father passed away in April 2022, and 2 months later I was diagnosed with an 80% blocked heart main artery which needed an urgent stent. Of course I was unable to go sailing, which was my passion, and I guess I turned to drinking heavily at that point!

It just crept up on me!

I basically lost everything that I enjoyed doing, and lost the 1 remaining family member I had any contact with, which was my Father.

My long term Thai g/f also left me at the same time.

So it was a triple whammy in a very short space of time.

So please be a little bit sympathetic with my circumstances

Having smoked all of my adult life, until a cardiologist sent me to a local hospital for an angiogram, where I was told that 1 of my main arteries was totally blocked, 1 was ok and the 3rd one needed a bypass urgently. I gave up smoking immediately. This was back in May 2000, I was 56 and living in France. A few years later, my cardiologist, during a routine examination found that I had an abdominal aneurysm, which needed treatment a couple of years later. A local surgeon told me that a regular op carried 40% risk, due to the scar tissue from the bypass, so I was sent to Monaco for endovascular surgery. The aneurysm needed 4 operations and was successfully repaired. The bad news was that I had to have something like 15 to 20 scans and the coloured dye that I had to swallow has almost totally fcuked my kidneys. To prepare for the surgery I had to have various tests, which resulted in me having to have a stent on my last good artery

I am telling you all of this, because there should be no reason for you not to go sailing, especially since not sailing has turned you into an alcoholic. I'm 80 years old and I swim and exercise in the pool twice a day and I don't spend a day of my life feeling sorry for myself.

My advice is, pull yourself together, get out and about, make some friends and go sailing. Just remember we're a long time dead, there's no rush!

I find it unbelievable that you are not aware of the fact immigration offices can change even what is stated on relevant "Lists"

For example for 10 years using money in the bank method.

Previously all that was required re proof of funds was my bank book with photocopies of all balances back to previous extension.

Out of the blue last extension demanded bank statement 12 months.

I use a dedicated bank account.

I was well aware they can require bank statement if some transactions can be consolidated.

My problem was one month had no activity.

Again few weeks ago I went to CW  and had my stamps transferred to new pp.

CW has a form for this with list of required docs.

IN ADDITION to list of required docs on the form they wanted my bank account books showing balances back to last extension and made me go to bank for update.

Then you have a crack at posters.

There are many more recent threads that mention more offices are not accepting the bank book only but requiring 12 month bank statement.

Next extension check with any current threads of any changes.

The problem in KP is that they dont speak English, have you not understood that. I'll repeat, "I was even shown their new form of requirements as proof and they wouldn't believe me when I told them that the form quite clearly states 3 months bank statement, as usual."

Anyway, enough, I think we've flogged this one to death.

What exactly are you looking for here? People who commiserate with you?

No amount of agreement on this forum will help you with your IO. But for the record, I agree with you, the documents you've provided should have been enough (assuming that your bank book didn't have gaps due to "combined" transactions, which is the main reason immigration might ask for a statement covering the whole period since your last extension).

In the big scheme of things, your "predicament" is a small issue and easily fixed. Not worth losing sleep over.

I posted this because Koh Phangan is new to Retirement Extensions and if you read my post properly you would understand that I was letting people know what to expect.

Just for you Upnotover, someone has copied the requirements needed in my domain, under the heading of "An Idiots Guide to the Retirement Extension process at Samui Immigration Office" Tailor made wouldn't you think! They have the same  form in Koh Phangan and you will find it on Page 11. I find it unbelievable that the level of intelligence is so low on this forum that between you all you could not offer a constructive reply.

None of you have addressed the problem of the Imm Officer not being able to read his own office's Requirements Form, apart from Chiaya, who at least read and understood my predicament.

I still find it hard to believe you don't know the new rules even though it is not stated on my "evidence". And you have been a member of AN for 12 years, and have never seen it mentioned.

The rules are in writing and you are suggesting that I should listen to hearsay and ignore them. Go away  please. I posted my experience to help others, not to read some of the stupid replies. I'll know better next time.

OP, no offense but you were unaware of the requirements.

You need all the months back to previous extension.

Bit harsh that they would not simply accept photocopies of bank book pages for 12 months.

Bangkok bank does require time to provide bank statements.

Most other banks can do it on the spot.

I WAS aware of the requirements, I went to the Immigration office to pick up the form before I started my paperwork. The form  clearly state 3 MONTHS bank statement and photo copies of 1 YEAR of bank book transactions, all of which I provided. When I arrived at Immigration, my paperwork was passed ok and I was given a number and sent inside. As I stated in my post, the Officer in charge could not speak English and totally misinterpreted the requirements form.

It has been several years now since the Financial requirements need a one year statement, and most IO require a Hand Drawn map. No offence intended but I find it surprising you were unaware of it. I would Change banks like Krungsri take 20min to issue letter and a 1yr extension. And what @Upnotover says

    1227268801_RETIREVISA(2).JPG.94d6d3c322b25b6386ce6f7c4b94f438.thumb.jpg.be7c344495c2274246f72da1c79f9277.jpg

Edit: This is from Trat immigration

And where does it say 1 year bank statement? I have been here for 13 years and I've never been asked for this and your "evidence" clearly states 3 months bank statement!

I have that same strip on my pc and I only use Chrome as a browser. I don't bother try to use my mobile to read AN.

I also use an Ad blocker to block ads on every site that I use.

Now, but only when I am on AN, I get a 90% pop up screen from AN asking me to disable my Ad blocker, but only for AN. as they need Ad subscriptions to pay for the site. I simply click on the little cross and it disappears.

I have nothing against that, but the reason for an Ad blocker is to block ALL ads on EVERY site.

Try uBlock origin, it blocks everything

I bought a new car 2 yrs ago. No red plates given, drove that way for months till plates came in. No problem. Drove through checkpoints, no problem.

Reminds me of my ex wife. When we went out to a restaurant in the suburbs and we couldn't find a parking spot, she used to encourage me to park illegally as "everyone else was doing it". She soon changed her tune when she saw that one evening, everyone had been given a ticket.
