  1. Lazada have got the 8.4 at 15,490 baht plus 15% off if you pay with master card this weekend. A great device, i've got the 10.5 fantastic.

And if you actually manage to get anything ordered and delivered correctly from Lazada please post and let us all know as they are absolutely terrible in my experience. (i.e. They advertise some pretty cheap prices but after you order you may find that after about 4 days after ordering they will cancel your order and tell you the items are out of stock) Absolutely useless.

  2. I have lived here 10 years and have a few friends who work off shore. Probably the most carefree spenders Thailand receives, mostly due to the nature of their job and the income they earn. I went to the floating market yesterday looking into getting the wife a unit there. The place was packed with Chinese tour groups taking pictures of everything they could see. I was at the exit gate and huge coach load passed me on their way out, not one of them had a plastic bag with something inside it they had purchased in the market, i was quite amazed. One of them threw some paper onto the floor so i busted through them all and picked it up, went straight over to the scruffy git who threw it and placed it in his hands to rapturous applause from the Thai onlookers.

Good job it was paper and not a massive hucked up gooey snot!, you hero you, you never know you might just get your own TV show like that guy from the Shitehouse Family

  3. They are just lulling them into a false sense of security - there will be a lorry around later to take them for a nice trip to Vietnam with a bit of luck.

Also, who on earth wants to buy fresh food from a store riddled with those pox infected creatures?

  4. What kind of embassy needs 6 (!) weeks to stamp a visa in passport?

Indeed! But luckily you seem not to have had to deal with the UK visa or passport rules, they are a disgrace!

I am a UK Citizen, my (still valid for 1 more year) passport is almost full and need it for travel for work in China. The process to get a new passport means I now have to apply to some agency (not the embassy - who appear to do absolute bugger all) in Bangkok, there is a waiting list for an interview of about 4 weeks - if you do not show for the appointment you cannot re apply for another appointment for 8 weeks.

You have to travel in person with your passport etc. to the agency and submit the application - at which point they will cancel and return to you your still valid passport (Now you cannot travel)

They then submit your application to the passport office in the UK and expect an 8 week turnaround!!!!

You then get an e mail telling you to travel back to the agency to collect the passport - I live in Chiang Mai.

These people seem to have forgot that they are Civil SERVANTS, not little petty dictators.

Come the revolution these would be some of the first b@st@rds put against the wall!

  5. It always amazes me here how they can come up with an excuse for anything no matter how far fetched it is.

No one takes any responsibility and a reason for what happens is concocted so nobody loses face or is inconvenienced. Everyone is off the hook and clear of any fault. Just the family is left suffering for a little girl they will never see again. Anyway, I am sure 58k baht and the presence of bank officials is going to make up for it.....

Actually surprised the haven't used the bad spirit angle yet, that one always works and clears everyone involved of responsibility.

Yes, sadly quite true, especially up here where I live, they will be blaming the little girl for being evil in a past life! Sad, sad situation.

  6. Of course we will never see the actual report.

So the test results on the earthing integrity of the machine and its installation, the operation (or presence) of the RCD or any other safety related checks will never be known.

We just get to see 'power overload' which is plain rubbish, or really, really poor translation.

    Indeed, their excuse is toilet!

What utter rubbish, since when did Volts=Power? from what they are saying it looks like a faulty neutral or grounding, 191V sounds to me like the power was being "sucked" out by other connections, it has nothing to do with why the machine became live.

We used to be on a long long link to our village supply, my 220/240 V supply would regularly get dragged down to 175V due to me being the last on the cable, nothing was compromised regarding safety, we had earthing and RCD/ELB Etc. if anything, 175V is less harmful than 240V.

It just highlights the ignorance of the general public here as to how dangerous electricity is.

The installation of the ATM has to be the source of the problem, terrible tragedy.

  7. I had a new UK passport back in 2006, the immigration in Chiang Mai made a new entry in the new passport detailing the original entry into Thailand (2004) and a few other stamps detailing the 1 year extensions. Basically, your new passport will give a complete history of when you first entered into Thailand. Mine took up one page.

I cannot remember if I was charged for this, if I was then it was next to nothing.

The problem Brits have at the minute is actually getting a new passport in anything less than 3-4 months! It is an absolute disgrace.

We really need to get 2 passports if we need to travel.

I work in China and have to travel a lot, my UK passport is almost full, but valid for more than one year, all of my residence permits and entry visas for China and Thailand are in this passport. The current situation requires me to book an appointment with some 3rd party company in Bangkok, (3 weeks minimum waiting time and a minimum of 8 weeks if I do not show for the original appointment) This means a trip from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

Once I apply for the new passport they cancel the old one so I can no longer travel, then they estimate 6-9 weeks for the new passport, then another trip to Bangkok to pick it up.

Makes me wonder what they are paying the British Embassy in Thailand and the British Consul in Chiang Mai to do?

As for the passport office in the UK and the backlog and the possibility now of strikes, I think the best solution would be to round them all up very early in the morning from their beds and line the entire lot of them up against a wall and be done with these workshy jobsworths once and for all!

  8. Arrogant dimwit....all he needed to do was arrange for it to be sent with the appropriate packaging for the item and it would have be fine. Too stingy to pay the extra cost.

If it says do not fold it usually means....DO NOT FOLD. Wondering who the arrogant dimwit is.....

Maybe they employ some ex Royal Mail Expats to deliver these type of things, I can remember a distant relative of my father that worked for the UK post 25 years ago, they would deliberately fold anything marked do not fold, deliberately drop anything marked fragile, open up all of the brown jiffy bags that usually contained adult magazines etc. just for the hell of it!

The last I heard the guy and some of his cronies had been sacked and prosecuted for stealing premium bonds - It was sad really, it practically killed his old man, who was as honest as the day was long and had worked for the Post for years after being a prisoner of war on the Burma railroad - he vouched for his son to get him the job and he brought only shame on them.

  9. Have they also warned their employees not to steal packages send from abroad, or letters with replacement credit cards?

You are not wrong there! I am into my 4th week waiting for my parcel sent from the UK, second one this year to go AWOL - (Sadly the company that sends from the UK do not use registered post, even though I offered to pay the extra) If you send anything to Thailand by ordinary post it is like playing the lottery!

  10. Anyone else having sign in problems here? I have been using my current password for ages, then today I try to log in and I am told incorrect user or password!

So after a few fruitless attempts i choose the "forgot password option" ....that is when it really goes tits up!

You get a link sent to your e mail that you need to follow, this then gives you a new really obscure password - I then follow the link to the log in page and enter the details - paste in the new password, all OK, then go to the "Change Password " page so I can put in something more memorable and lo and behold it rejects the new password that was just sent to me, so i cannot change my password!

Log out, log back in and i get incorrect username or password, try to copy and paste from the original e mail then I get "sorry you do not have permission"....what a pain in the ass! I have changed my password yet again using the "forgot password" link and at least i am logged on.....any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong, I mean this should be pretty straightforward right?

    Cheers!

  11. I very much doubt she gives a toss, she is a British Citizen, living in a country that allows freedom of speech. She's not likely to return here anytime soon.

Be careful what you say about the UK, it really does not have freedom of speech nor the right to freedom of speech in the same way that the US has it in its constitution - The UK have a sly and devious way of turning what could be construed as free speech into "Hate Speech" - however, it is a lot more free than these archaic laws here in Thailand.

  12. Was in this situation a year or so back. I had our land that was in my wifes name transferred to my son who was 11 at the time - The land registry did not want to do it and tried all they could to put my wife off changing.

I had heard worrying rumours about inheritance of land should anything happen to my wife.... i.e It was rumoured it could go to the Mother in law!!!

Anyway, we made the transfer and as stated by others, the land cannot be sold until the child reaches 20 (I believe there is a way around this involving the courts but cannot be sure)

  13. sad.png it will never stop...

    Driver a school employee ???

So the school never knew he was a heavy drinker ?? was he vetted before he was employed ??? to get the job you normally have connections with a school member of staff Did he ??? so who actually set him on.

    Hope he had a D/License.

Maybe he just went out on the piss at a party the night before.....why would the school be expected to know his drinking habits? Does your employer know yours? Why would you hope he had a driving license? Do you hope he can save 400 Baht fine?

He probably appeared normal like a lot of Thais.......

Blood Alcohol Levels - 0.16-0.19 BAC: Dysphoria predominates, nausea may appear. The drinker has the appearance of a "sloppy drunk."

I mean just look at Suthep and his symptoms.....0.25 BAC: All mental, physical and sensory functions are severely impaired. Increased risk of asphyxiation from choking on vomit and of seriously injuring yourself by falls or other accidents.
