  1. There are occasional postings on the thread below (In Thai) about the Ubon Sq & Central Plaza Developments. FB also has a page dedicated to projects around the city if anyone is interested to have thier partner translate some of the content. Google translate also helps to get an idea of what they are talking about on both sites:

  2. I'm thinking of introducing the in laws to this for additional animal fodder. The yields are high and the protein levels around 14% so on a small patch you can have extra feed for cows & chickens.

  3. I read with interest everyone's comments on comfrey and remember this herb from my parents farm during the 80's. they would feed chickens and horses back then. My in-laws are in Ubon and i want to introduce them to this herb for the few cows and chicken they have as a fodder to help reduce feeding costs and maybe grow later on a larger scale. If anyone is kind enough to give some roots to start this off as a trial it would be much appreciated. Also has anyone thought of commercially growing for animal or fish pellets?

    Thank you

  4. Hi All

I am trying to find out a little information for my sister-in-law and her husband. They have purchased a small piece of land and in a rush started to build a house before having the land office verify measurements. When the land office came out last week the SIL has been informed that the land purchased is under size. They purchased what they believed was 1.25 rai and the land measurements came out at 1 rai. I myself always understood that Chanut title was the most accurate and least problematic of deeds that could be owned in Thailand so wondered where along the way a mistake has been made either by the SIL rushing to build before checking this all out or whether somewhere down the line the land office have made mistakes previously on file as to the size of the plot. Anyhow has anyone had a similar situation arise and what are the options to sort this out if any.

    1. Should she accept this and move on putting it down to lack of experience.

    2. Complain to the land office for what ever good that meay be.

    3. Sue the owner and/or seek compensation for the loss of land sold.

    etc..

    Thanks.

  5. Just back from Ubon

    Hi Jay,

Glad you made it back in one piece! How was the trip? Must have changed a bit since you where last there. Did you get around to all the places you wanted to? Would love to read your thoughts about it all when you get a chance.

    Hi Memock

Yes, great mate. The trip this time was well worth it and a much needed break for all the family. My youngest boy loved playing with his cousins and we had chance to visit some but not all the places planned. Ubon feels very much like it is moving on at a fast pace and you hear all sorts of talk locally about how it may be used as a hub for business across borders. Food in the supermarkets feels pricey due to a poor exchange rate THB/UK£ but that could be a reflection of how bad the UK is doing right now and not so much Thailand. Peppers has a great breakfast and I was blown away by the food at Spagos which we visited several times. I thought the Sunee shopping experience was great and they are jamming in the customers at weekends. Fuji and a few others inside were taking numbers for seating with a queue outside on the Saturday we visited. If someone had told me a few years back that would happen in Ubon I would not have believed that kind of a customer base was possible yet in the city but so far Sunee looks to be a big draw for the punters. If this is a sign of what's to come with Central Plaza then I think Ubon's really starting to take off. If correct I heard rumours of a new international airport by 2016 out of town on the road toward muang sam sip and a very large industrial zone planned for attracting business from Bangkok and possibly China. All good stuff if it happens and it is definitely not the sleepy city any longer when first visiting 10+ years ago for the first time. Just don't know when we will be able to venture back. Hopefully not too long before we return. A month passed by quick and I could have stayed much longer to explore. If there was one negative to take from the experience it was traffic around rush hours. The main chayangkul road in/out the city could soon be at full capacity in not so many years away and this will make travel around difficult and start to choke off the city if they don't have plans to alleviate it in some way. Tolerable now but maybe not so in future for people living there full time. Doing U-turns up and down that road become a pain in the ass some nights. Went to bigC for a few bits of shopping and collected a pizza for the kids which I timed at 1.5 hours door to door. 4 years ago that would have taken approx: 30 mins. That's what comes with progress I guess!

  6. Peppers has free wifi. Wrong Way as well. Lobby/Restaurant/coffee shop at Sunee. I am sure there are plenty others but once you have your phone set up then you find you will just end up using that connected to your lap top. Unless of course you want to download some big files then you do what I did last week and head to Peppers for a few coffees and some great breakfast and download to your hearts content!

Thanks Memock. Is the AIS and phone GPRS or a faster service like 3G?

  7. Jay, bring your laptop and mobile phone and sign up for an unlimited usage package for one month only with AIS. Their main office is just down the road from you and if you are unsure how to do it take your laptop, phone and about 800 baht to them and they will do the rest. It obviously wont be broadband speed but if you just need it for keeping an eye on things back home then it would be perfect. If you wanted to get broadband set up at your place it could also be done within a couple of days and the cost would be around the same per month also but you would have to commit to some kind of minimum contract (12 months).

Cheers for that. I'll give AIS a go just to keep upto date with my emails. The hotspots around Ubon were quite good before for web browsing over a coffee. Who has wifi these days memock? Last time I used the coffee shop next to the Ubon International (Nevada) hotel but there are probably more available now around town.
