  1. I'm not a big Coffee drinker but do like a large mug first thing in the morning just to set me up for the day when I'm half a sleep. Shopping around trying different bean types I settled on Columbian arabica which I stick with now. Wide awake after a mug and smells great too.

  2. I was impressed to find that the TAT had put together an informative website dedicated to Ubon and then also noticed they have a link in English for us farangs. Clicked on the link and got nothing but error messages so it seems for now they are promoting Ubon Ratchathani amongst the Thai speaking population only. Ah well, nothing really changes in Thailand when it comes to attention to detail ! :D

Hope they correct the site soon.........if they want farang visitors that is. :)

  3. I was thinking of setting up an old laptop in the house over in LOS/Ubon for the family to webcam and talk each day via UK/LOS. What are the latest ADSL B/Band offers locally (monthly cost low Mbps) and what are the approx: set up costs to have a phone company put a telephone line in. I don't want to spend a fortune on a line while i'm not in thailand so cheapest options, if any, would suffice. Thanks for your help:

  4. Hello All

I would be interested to learn about any property agents in Ubon city who may be able to give me an indication of house & land value of our holiday home. Wife and I are considering selling due to our eldest son's health making it increasingly difficult and unlikely we can spend time over in Thailand in future. It's a tough decision as our long term retirement plans were somewhat based on us living locally when older but this seems to be drifting too far from reality right now. A dialogue with an agent may give us some insight into our options and help us finalise our decision now or wait for later. If anyone does know of a property agency then please let me have their contact details.

    Any help is much appreciated...

  5. I am quite interested to learn more about growing sugar cane also to maximise yield and prices per rai. On a quick internet search, sugar cane is showing up at a price of US$36-44 per meton. Is this price correct and up to date? The other figure I found was 15 metons per rai for cane is that also correct?

Other information needed would be cost/s to grow through Nov- Mar growing period and what are seedlings?, labour, water and feed costs to calculate margins etc..

I don't know anything about sugar at the moment but it seems a better prospect than rice for a small plot.

Thanks for any help you can give...

  6. I just did a quick check on the Bupa Thailand website for hospitals they list within their network and for Ubon both Ubon Rak and Rajavej are listed. I'm not a BUPA user myself but their site seems to suggest both or either hospitals can be used for treatment. Maybe worth asking them the question directly.

  8. Barbed wire shuts off national park

Thai soldiers have put up barbed wire to prevent People's Alliance for Democracy protesters entering Phra Viharn National Park, and set up more checkpoints along the road to the park, according to a local reporter in Si Sa Ket province.

The barbed wire was placed around around the office and the entrance to the national park, and two more military checkpoints were now the road between Nam Khun and Kantharalak districts, in addition to existing checkpoints manned by para-military rangers.

Huge billboards opposing the PAD's planned rally have been put up at various intersections along the road between Kantharalak district of Si Sa ket and Muang district of Ubon Ratchathani, the reporter said.

  9. There's a Rottweiler breeder in our village but I don't know where to get Boxer pups. The side market at Big C can get all sorts of dogs/puppies and they are usually there once a week from memory. Rott pups were about <5k baht when I last asked two years ago.

  10. Thanks for the information which is great in terms of options. I have been working on the assumption that we need to spend between 100-150 baht per post at a similar length to yours. How does this compare on cost to making them yourself as my brother-in-law is prepared to have go casting them himself. Do the posts need wire reinforcement through the centre to stop them from being brittle etc...

    Cheers.

  11. Hello

Can anyone tell me the best price and location/s to buy concrete poles to put around a piece of farm land? The woden posts only last a couple of years I'm told and most secure way to keep animals in/out is concerete cement poles. I sort of remember someone telling me a few years back 100 baht per piece is that accurate. If you have wire price also it would be appreciated. Thank you.
