I guess you have to define what you mean by a brilliant picture. Some amazing photos have been captured by foreign war correspondents and these images gained recognition for their documentary brilliance. These certainly could have been taken by an 'early cell phone camera'. If you are talking about fine art images that are typically printed at 8x10 up to 40x50 or larger then certainly this could not have been captured with a cell phone. That being said, if the photographer's purpose was to create images to be displayed on a computer screen then an early cell phone camera COULD have been enough.
I'll say it again and again, the camera is the tool. You choose the right tool for the right job. Good images are made in the mind of the photographer. The tool does not create. It is used to create.

I like my beef rare but pork has to be crispy...
Just wait a day or two. The temp is going to climb! Then those pigs will be smoked and crispy!
-
I had some of that thinly sliced hard smoked pork the other day.
This is amazing stuff, not only for a snack but it can be used in cooking for anything you put ham or bacon in with twice the flavour.
Brilliant addition to fried rice, especially if you use brown rice like I do.
The brown rice has a lot more flavour than white and needs other strong flavours added to it.
I need a regular supply, anyone seen it around?
Haven't seen it thinly sliced but I did see a truck load of pigs and with CR's air quality, they should be well smoked by the end of their trip!

Oilinki,
Very nice set of images! Enjoy the commentary as well since it blends so well with the photos. Excellent job!

Thanks. Various on line booking sites indicate that BKK Air fly in/out of Suvarnabhumi? The last time I flew with them there was even free access to a dedicated lounge, VTN I think.
Thank you.
CaiRene
You are right. I was thinking of Nok Air. Never flew BKK Air. Mea Culpa!

Bangkok Air gives you a free snack ! ! !
Thai Air charges more and when you arrive in BKK they will shuttle you to the terminal. Still can't understand why Thai Air can not pull up to a gangway since it IS the national carrier of Thailand!
Air Asia and BKK Air both land at Don Mueng while Thai AIr goes to Suv(whatever)!

Very realistic! Saw two sets of these elephants on way through from Surrathani to Khao Sok...
Jimmy,
How long were you trying to feed them bananas before you realized they were NOT real? Tell the truth now, don't be shy!

Hmmmmmm....I'm still using CS4 and find that it does everything I need it to do and
I own it! Mind you I'm sure that ACC works well and may folks will jump on the offer
but what I want to know though is this...Why?
One reason: Compatibility! Between the older versions and the new operating systems. Today not an issue but future . . .????

Lately, alcohol is the least of our worries with Thai teenagers. Now they are getting their hands on grenades! Gotta love this place!

Hi Mac,
Always happy to have new faces here in CR. Being a fellow renting farang, I can tell you that you have tried all the normal channels. I have found that many more homes are listed on Thai language web sites than on English language web sites. Have you tried any of those yet? Sorry I can't help with any 'word of mouth' opportunities. Perhaps some of the long-time CR citizens can offer some insight.
I know this isn't much help but wanted to say welcome to CR.
Cheers,

You should ring up Tony Abbott and nominate me for one of the new knighthoods he's bringing back in.
Sir Sceadugenga..... hmmmm
Would really add some much needed class to the forum.
I think this is already a classy forum!

If you can find the plants strawberries are easy to grow, a raised garden or even large pots in a sunny position and watered well.
I am aware of that. Have grown hundreds of the plants in the states. What I find interesting that even though the weather is warm here all year long, there is still a season in which they grow. I was just wondering when the planting season starts. Probably too late to start now since the season has already been going for over a month now. I want to be ready next year.
Yeah, much too late. The farm I visited begins selling their berries in February. Sorry can't be much more help than that.
-
What a great link. Thanks for sharing. Back in the states for three weeks next month. Going to consume all of the strawberries that I can while there. Maybe start some here next season. When should I plant them in Pattaya. Any knowledge?
Haven't a clue since I am a devourer of the berries and not the grower. However, if you look on the farming forum, there is a recent thread and one member speaks of growing a patch on his property. You should check that out. Also a very good forum for all questions and info on growing things in LOS.

Thanks fro sharing. Could you provide a Google Map link, if possible?
Cheers
Garry
Hey Garry, I am a neophyte when it comes to Google Maps. I included the name and phone number of the farm in one of the photos. I know they have a Facebook page with a map insert but I do not type Thai. Hope you can and will find the map you are looking for.

It's refreshing to hear positive, constructive comments here on TV. Between this, the CR forum and the Photography and Arts forum, I have found two places where the comments are 99% uplifting and positive, places where I would not be embarrassed to have my mom or my children read what is posted.
Kevvy, thanks for posting your comment and I am sure scea is happy to know that his friendship is appreciated.
G'Day FS
Thankyou for the nice post you left. I will be back in Chiang Rai in about 4 weeks time again and looking forward to it again.Got caught in a hail storm yesterday and I thought the windscreen would crack as they were so big. 4 trees came down as well as we were driving.
kevvy
Wow! You should be more careful and not hit so many trees! ! ! !
Glad you made it home safely!

ORGANIC Strawberry farm in Chiang Rai province. THIS is the way strawberries should be grown! These berries are given TLC and it is evident in the taste of these amazing berries!

For those who live in CR province, there is a place where you can get fresh, organic (free from pesticides) strawberries that look and taste like strawberries are supposed to and not the white, sour, hard stuff that you find in the markets or roadside stands.
An acquaintance told me of this place which is on the main road heading to Mae Sai from CR. It is a little bit of a challenge to find but if you drive about 5 kilometers north of the Mae Chan Tesco Lotus, on the left side of the road will be a minor road that takes you to the tea plantation. Just before this road there are a few signs announcing this the strawberry farm. Once you turn left off the main road you will see signs clearly leading you to the location.
When I first visited the farm, the owner greeted us and showed us around. As you can see from the photos, the strawberries are grown with great care and elevated above the ground on irrigated beds of straw so these pampered berries never touch the dirt! You are not permitted to pick your own but you simply place and order in advance and his staff will hand pick your order and have it ready the next day. (I believe you can simply phone in your order and then pick it up when it is ready.) A pack of berries cost 300 baht for 500grams. A little pricy but every berry is beautiful, ripe and very tasty. He also sells strawberry jam that is made without sugar and pectin and is 100% strawberry! It is so great to eat on toast in the morning or to put on ice cream!
Anyway, here are some photos that I took today. If you LOVE GOOD strawberries, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place! And, NO, I am in no way-shape-or-form related or vested in this operation or with the owner, I simply miss eating real strawberries like I used to get in the US.

Here in Nanglae we had a nice shower and immediately lost power. It has been off for 3 hours niow. Reminds me of the riddle of how many Thai does it take to screw in a lightbulb!

I see. Well, you can get a CLOSE UP view of CR then. Some of the local sights to try to take in might be the White Temple and the Black Temple (both are tourist must-sees), Doi Tung/Mae Fa Luang Garden, and the Golden Triangle are all the CR must-see places. Visiting Doi MaeSalong is another must see but with such poor visibility, you will miss half the impact of the visit which is the amazing views on the way to and from. We have a smallish mall, a nightly "Night Bazaar" (yawn) and a rather nice Sat night walking street. Only 1 Starbucks ! ! ! ! That is at the mall.
The pride of CR really is the beautiful countryside which can be seen when the smog clears. Anyway, hope all this is of some help. Drive safe. Enjoy smokey CR. Give a shout before you set out.
