Up or down hills, you run the risk of losing traction and sliding back down the hill. Going down hill, the gears act as a steady brake and if you change gears, you are suddenly in nuetral for a split second or more and run the risk of losing traction, losing the steadiness of the decent and all of a sudden you get this little rush of speed, you hit the brakes and you go sliding down the mountain with your wheels locked lol.

This is why 4wd'ing is not an exact science, but a learned experience.

Thanks for your help I was mainly after the hill risk.

    Take Care

    Ash :o

  2. Can you drop some of that rice around our house for this info ?? rice off the field is much more tasty.

    No worries lol.

Another question I have is after reading this on one of the web links up page

    Additional Tips:

-Don't change gears in the middle of a water crossing, going up or down hills, or in sand dunes.

why is this and what would you do if you ran out of revs?

  3. Ok I have been visiting CMR very regurally for the past 2 months and found it to be great may be a bit expensive, but I only have one problem no dionostic yet.

  4. i sure don't know why somebody even consider buing a 4wd car, unless u got a lot of horses under the bonnet. Sure u don't do any mud-driving. :o

    Thanks for your advice!

I think alot of people in Thailand buy 4WD as they ive in rurual areas no roads etc and also for the pickup aspect. I know the could get the 4x2 but for driving in post water logged field with the pickup filled to the brim with rice it sure will come handy.

    What do you think?

  5. Crossy,

Thanks for your tips. GOOGLE Doh

    Chanchao,

Thanks as well. Its the 2.5 Turbo they have too yes the turbo is a pain in the ass! Low revs its a bit pooh but I love the Ranger!.

Another question, why are we getting alot of black smoke when giving it some or going high revs up a hill?

Is this cause they and I need to let the turbo cool after each drive?

Do you think somethings upset in the turbo to produce this black smoke??

  6. hi'

McAfee :o norton as well :D

    change antivirus :D

first these 2 are invasive, slow down any system, and whatever people can say they are not the best, far from it ...

get rid of it, and change for a free solution AVG or Avast or BitDefender the cheapest of them all and the most efficient!

    francois

The original Norton Antivirus application was good but now their antivirus software has just become overbearing and aggressive. The Norton software filled my registry with junk so I ditched it. I use AVG now and I have no complaints and my PC has regained its initial performance. Francois is right, Norton and McAfee are not anywhere near as efficient as some of the free ones.

    I vouch for that too.

  7. Hi

I have the luxury of driving a 4WD pickup and it shifts into 4WD automatically! But as I have never driven a 4WD before I have a few questions could you help me please? Also I will have to help collect rice and other crops from my partners fields which sometimes will be very damp not with huge puddles of water, but the soil will be very wet possibility of getting stuck in 4WD ?????

    1. Where and when to use 4WD?

    2. When to use 4L and 4H?

    3. When I change from 2WD to 4WD a light comes on RFW (its a pretty new FORD RANGER) I imagine this is the dif lock am I correct? and when I change from 4WD to 2WD the light RFW stays on, this can be turnt off by pressing a button RFW. When I change back to 2WD and this light is on I always press the RFW button to remove it could someone tell me the pros and cons of leaving the RFW on, or should it always be off when driving in 2WD?

    Thanks for your help!

    Ash :o

  8. I really don't see the problem, you need to validate Windows to get the direct download link, but once you have the file I linked above you can just install it, and it does update to its latest definition files.

Sorry Florin bit tired and miss read. Thanks for your help I'll use my dial LONGBAND to download now and see if it works.

    Thanks for you help

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1...wareInstall.exe

    Thanks Ash

  10. I'm going to use the "M" word. Microsoft has a very good spyware aplication now. It is a beta release and it is free right now. I think they will charge later or bundle it, anyway. I have tried many of the ones you mention and have had varying degrees of success. But for me the spyware de jour is the one form Microsoft. :o

I wish I could use this one too I had it too up untill then new year when microsoft antispyware beta asks you to update and validate windows, since I cant do this I can nolonger use Microsoft Antispware beta.

I would reacomend Microsoft Antispware beta to anyone :D

    Any ideas for my case???

  12. Control Panel, regional and language options, languages, check "install files for complex script".

You might be asked for your WindowsXP disc, so have it ready.

If you want your system to default to Thai, then go to the "advanced" tab, and change the non-unicode language to Thai.

    Thanks Firefoxx

    All sorted.

    Cheers

  13. Well the 2 of us went to The Best Chineese Resturant in Chiang Mai and thought the price for the peking duck was OTT, would have been ok if there was for of us to share the bill but I'm not paying 600bht for something I'd have to eat 70% of. In the end we went to this duck stall on the way home brought half a duck and ate that with that nice gravy sauce.

Spose the next question is does anyone know where to get the pancakes from?

    Ash

  14. Another place that's highly popular (with Thais) and looks totally like a place where Chinese-Thai families would go is the place opposite the [xxxxxxx oops, should have been 'Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel' --edited] on Sridonchai road (half way from the Night Bazar intersection towards the river). In front it looks like a cheapo open-air basic restaurant with basic wooden tables, but when you walk towards the back it opens up into a huge two-floor airconditioned restaurant with all the big round tables. I forgot what it's called but I'm sure someone can fill in the name.. :o

Hey thanks for your help I'm after the peking duck!

Would like to know the name of the othe resturaunt near the Night Bazzar. Anyone?

    Thanks again.
