  1. 24 pin is the current standard, and 20-pin only motherboards are phasing out. Therefore the PSU on that case should be 24-pin.

The specs you have aren't demanding on the PSU, so yes, it's sufficient.

Just to confirm the case i mentioned has a 24 pin psu with 4 pins being able to peel away for older 20 pin MB

  2. A well designed case will do wonders for cooling and reliability. An aluminum case will be very light. This is my case:

    http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/product/Chas...r/va8000swa.asp

It's big and expensive, but I actually need it since I use a lot of hard drives (I have 9 now).

Basically you get what you pay for. I've had cheap power supplies (the ones that come with the case) fail after a year of use. You can go ahead and get that case now, but you might end up having to buy a new PSU later. If you're getting a budget system without power hungry components (dual core, high end graphics) then you need the extra power of a high end power supply (but they also have reliability).

Nice case Firefox, my system consists of ...

    Motherboard - ASUS A8N-5X Socket 939

    CPU - Athlon 64 3000

Graphics Card - PCI Express 256MB + DVI Port EN6200TC128

    RAM - 512 x 2 Kingston DDR 400

Hard Drive - Seagate 80GB SATA II

    Combo Drive - CDRW/DVD-ROM

Not exactly the fastest pc around but all i need it for is lots of downloading, surfing and burning dvds cds.

So I think the PSU that come with it should do the job and if t last a year then bonus i'll buy a decent one once its died.

Still not sure if its a 24 pin PSU?

  3. I have been looking around the net and have seen this.

As my budget isn't very high and this is my first ever desktop pc I have come up with this it looks ok bit snazy for a first case and comes with a PSU only thing it dosen't say will the PSU have 24 pins as my MB is a 24 pin anyone have any ideas if it will.

If I do go for this case in 6 months or so I could always buy a decent PSU.

    Any input

  4. Hi

I have a just got all the conponents for a pc and my motherboard size is ATX 12" x 10 " and all I need now is a case to put them in.

So I'm after some recomendations for a case.

If you guys and girls could post a link to a case you recomend that would be cool!

My question about PSU is I have looked on a few sites and have seen some cases I like, but none state how many pins the PSU has. My MB has 24 pins do most PSU's come with 24 or 20 pins? if I brought a case with 20 pins could I just use one of these covertors so the PSU would work for my MB

Firefox has replied concerning the PSU question but any other views are welcome.

    Thanks for all your help

  5. you will need to sand down your desk to remove any varnish or sealer , then clean with turps , then light sand , then clean again , leave to dry then apply the stain , when dry put a coat of clear lacquer on , sand lightly with fine grain paper , lacquer again , rub gently with wire wool and then a final coat of clear lacquer.

some of those cheapo desks that look like wood are actually plastic

    Second that :o

  6. Hi

I have have looked at past threads concerning this and am still abit confused after downloading a couple of the programmes.

I wish to compress my DVD down to about a 700-1000MB avi or mpeg file for play back on my pc and to maybe put all my DVDs onto my HDD.

Can anyone recomend a simple programme to do this. I imagine to get a decent picture I will have to only compress the actual movie and not the entire DVD.

Any help is most welcome. And if its freeware then that would be better. Although I could go get it for 100bht if you recommend a good one.

    Thanks for your help.

  7. Hi

I have a just got all the conponents for a pc and my motherboard size is ATX 12" x 10 " and all I need now is a case to put them in.

So I'm after some recomendations for a case. I must be able to order online and get it delivered to UK, include a PSU of 350w or over and my budget is 50pounds Including postage.

If you guys and girls could post a link to a case you recomend that would be cool!

  8. You say your GF is seperated but married so if shes married she's married so I would think you will still have to tick the maried option, although this is just what I think.

For your second question I'd say she'd have to put her spuses name.

But for sure on your third question it states Adults "travelling" with children.

So she won't have to put her childrens names down.

But I'd wait for the pros before you take my advice. Hope that helps.

  9. Slightly off topic.

    FYI

I called Gulf and Thai Air today and you are now allowed hand luggage on board but there is still a strict ban on liquids, gels etc. Aslo no ciggarette lighters allowed.

Electronics permitted. Was told hand luggage should be L 44cm W 35cm D 16cm and no more than 7KG's.

Hope this helps anyone planning on flying soon.

  10. All I can say is if you have spent any resonable amount of time in LOS you would have known the answer to your first thread and as for this thread I let the others fill you in.

Short and sweet story my friend meet a girl outside of her normal duties if you get my drift started a relationship within 2 months she told him about her line of work and as he had spent everyday of the last 2 months with him he knew she hadn't been at work, cut long story short he said OK that's fine don't do it again and within a year they are happily married and living in UK and have been for the past 3 years and still going strong. And as he's a close friend a take her past with a pince of salt and she is also a very good friend.

I know your getting alot of negative posts but if you have spent any good amount of time in LOS you will know what to be carefull of.

Hope this helps. Just keep an open mind even if you do love her.

  11. So what do think?

General consensus at present, ags, although I havn't seen any news today, is that it should have all calmed down again in a week or so.

There are thoughts that perhaps flights in the near future, after this scare, between the US and UK may well enforce a 'no hand luggage embargo', perhaps it might even spread to other airlines, but I have my doubts at this stage.

I think it is going to be watch this space until you can contact them, but thats my opiniopn.

    Good Luck

    Moss

Thanks for your advice I hope it does calm down.

I just thought lets look on Thai on the net and this link states Flights with THAI to UK allow no hand luggage. So if they don't change that I shall have to find another airline.

Or find some safe way of getting these componets back to the UK.

    Thai Air Link

  12. are you still alowed the basic 30kilos plus the 7 which would normally go in the locker to go in the hold ?

    I'm sure you can.

Where are you travelling from and to. That will be a big factor.

Slightly off topic I intend to travell from Bangkok to Heathrow in about 2 or 3 weeks either on Gulf or Thai Air I have concerns about hand luggage.

Haven't been able to call Thai or Gulf to ask as of mothers day but do you think they will be allowing hand luggage as I have some very important computer components to take bck to the UK and the are no way going in the hold. And they take upp the size of a normal hand luggage bag not a plastic bag.

    So what do think?

  13. Went to Mae Sai on 27th July

So sounds like I just missed the fee increase and the long wait.

Went to shop and brought about 70 films the guy I brought from said if you have problems bring them back and I shall return your money.

Anyhow I was with my Thai family so we split them up abit my Thai GF went through before me and stupidly even put her shopping on the X ray machine even doing that the guy said don't worry and she and her family carried on through.

As for me not asked to show the money, I'm sure a Hello, how are you? bla bla converstations helps this as treat others how you wish to be treated.

Well can't wait for my next run.

  14. TO get some phones unlocked you have to call your service provider.

Example for me I had a Nokia 6680 on a vodafone contract and arrived in Thailand in Jan thinking the same that I'd be able to unlock it.

But at that moment in time there was no software available to unlock the 6680.

So I browsed websites and found out I had to call my service provider tell them the IME number and what phone I had and they emailed me a password to to enter into the phone and voila it was unlocked!

You have every right to unlock your phone if your on a contract but some operators will make it a pain in the ass to get the UNLOCK CODE out of them!

Not sure what the deal is on pre pays but I know that its not as easy to unlock a newer phone anymore! When they unlock your phone I beleive all that they do is reload the operating system so a re format but you need to have that software available.

Mind you the website mentioned above and many others offer the unlock codes!!!! But as I'm not sure how new your model is thats about all I can say on the matter.

    Hope that helps

  15. Right now I know that cable is fastest thats good as I shall be doing a lot of downloading.

I shall probally do both wired for desktop and wirless for my notebook.

I was with BT before in the UK and thought it was a great service. Now we have NTL digital installed at our home in UK and as I understand you can get BB straight out of the set top box and as there will be a set top box in the same room as the desktop concerned a wired connection will be no problem.

    Thanks for all your help!

If anyone has anymore input I'd be happy to hear!

    Cheers

  16. Hey all,

I have a desktop pc with O/S Windows XP.

When I go back to the UK and get BB set up there are offers that give you a free wireless router.

But how would I connect the internet conection to my pc?

Do I need to get a wireless network card or something? or is there some product available to plug into a USB port to connect the pc to the wireless router.

If there is a USB product would this affect the internet speed? Or does going wireless generally lose some speed along the way?

Sorry but I havent got a clue when it comes to wireless unless I'm using my notebook which came up an running with wireless.

Thanks for all your help, sure someone knows what I'm in need of.

    Cheers

    Ash :o

  17. Thanks Ashley! so I have to travel to Bangkok first and then further down by train then ferry time.

Depends you could either get train down to BKK then fly to Samui or

Fly to BKK then train to Surithani then ferry to Samui.

If it was me I'd train it down to BKK then fly to Samui, reason being 1 the train is a must do if never done before and can be a "fun" trip and 2nd I'd fly BKK to samui to miss out on the ferry and cutting down the whole travel time.

So you decided what to do?

    Ash :o
