I was there yesterday. They were checking or xraying all bags. I had 8 dvds which weren't a problem.
Most of the people I saw in the immigration line didn't have to show any money, but one guy was asked. He appeared to display a credit or ATM card, and was on his way.
The sign said to show 20,000 baht for tourist and non-immigrant visas. 10,000 baht for transit.
So they're still having fun with there new toy.

Plane is fastest, I'd say a single is no more than 2500bht and not sure if you will stop off in bangkok. Either way will be about 3 hour journey max.
Train for me is more fun and I'd get a first class carraige with private compartment if going with your partner, cost from here to Surithani would be probally about 2000bht each then you got ferry costs which would be not alot. Travell time atleast 1 day 12hrs to Bangkok maybe change trains eat then leave again then a futher 12hours on train then ferry time.
Haven't done either way in along time so might be a bit different in prices, but for me train is much more fun and if you have never done it do it atleasts once.
Or you could get a train from CM to Bangkok then a flight down to Samui.
Hope that helps.

TO get some phones unlocked you have to call your service provider.
Example for me I had a Nokia 6680 on a vodafone contract and arrived in Thailand in Jan thinking the same that I'd be able to unlock it.
But at that moment in time there was no software available to unlock the 6680.
So I browsed websites and found out I had to call my service provider tell them the IME number and what phone I had and they emailed me a password to to enter into the phone and voila it was unlocked!
You have every right to unlock your phone if your on a contract but some operators will make it a pain in the ass to get the UNLOCK CODE out of them!
Not sure what the deal is on pre pays but I know that its not as easy to unlock a newer phone anymore! When they unlock your phone I beleive all that they do is reload the operating system so a re format but you need to have that software available.
Mind you the website mentioned above and many others offer the unlock codes!!!! But as I'm not sure how new your model is thats about all I can say on the matter.
Hope that helps

Well I picked this off a certian hub.
DISCLAIMER:
I would never swear to any Thai because you don't know what might happen in return.
But maybe you could have some fun with your friends, but I tried it once and they didn't seem to laugh much.

Hi, not sure if you have already left, but as you asked for suggestions, how about:
Pack them in a box and check at the post office how much it will be to send them by registered airmail. They will be happy to weigh it for you and give you the price for EMS shipping.
You can also find a calculator here: http://www.thailandpost.com/search_ems_en.asp
(I have no clue how much 200 CD's will weigh)
I use Thailand Post almost DAILY for overseas shipping (to Europe, US), it is cheap, efficient, safe, secure, and I have NEVER had any complaints about losses. Last time I send a package to the UK it took 4 days to arrive (if you decide to do so, send it from the postoffice at the airport, then it won't need additional handling, it will go from airport to airport to your postal address).
I am sure shipping will be less than a potential $29 for 1 kg overweight.
You might want to give it a try, good luck.
No I'm still here.
Thought about it but was wondering if customs would charge anything in UK? Which would then defeat the idea of buying the DVD's cheap here.
Doyou know if they would?

I have activated mine and have added no top up and all is fine.
No promos from true as of yet but we still have time for them.
I only need to use my phone for incomming really so I shall wait and see how long it is before I'm asked to top up.

Well all sounds like that x-ray fun has finished but I'm still interested in anyone elses experiences coming through.
Try keep on topic about the x-ray machine LOL.
Don't worry Ash, I will be up there again on some business next week, and will ask specifically about your concerns
Well boys, I did my visa run yesterday (4thJuly) and the xray was definately going. And was asked to explain my DVD purchases. I bought 6 box sets of various TV shows(each set having about 6-10 discs), Lost, West Wing etc. I explained in english that it was for me and my friends back in NZ. The 3 Immgr officers looked at the box sets carefully and spoke amongst themselves whether or not the shows were in Thai or not. They asked why so many, and I said they were for me watching and also for my friends, I had to repeat this a couple of times. the older immgr Officer said in basic english" too many only 10 allowed, next time no more than 10'' and waved me thru. The copied Polo shirts werent a problem thou.
Im not sure why the big deal with copied DVDs are. Maybe they dont get a kickback from the Burmese shops
Its not like I could sell these DVDs to the Thai locals is it? They probably have no idea what Lost, West Wing is.
Incidently, they put thru my purchases in the xray machine but not my bag I had strapped to my back!!
ps had no problems in passport control
Well looks like they still liking their new toy.
The deal with the copied DVD's is even though this is Thailand it's still ilegal to sell copied DVD's etc.
But who don't love copied DVD's, well a few on this forum don't but discusion is for anther site another thread.
Better keep on topic and not too many seedy details LOL
Although if you do have any seedy details that I'm after about this topic please feel free to PM me.

It would make sense if it were the Bhumibol dam - which is named after the King. But I do agree the picture in the cinema looks a lot better than the one in that (dam) site.
Now I'm confussed do you is it the Bhumidol or Sri Nakarin Dam?
The one in the cinema looks very very tall and so does the Bhumidol dam in a puc on that site and if you look few google images theres a few pics of it but not good ones and it looks very high too.
The Sri Nakarin Dam just don't look tall enough to be the one in the cinema, although at first I was conviced after jdinasia said it was.
So which one is it?
Would love to stand in the middle and just do a 360 degree turn.

Sri Nakarin Dam ... Kanchanaburi province
Thanks here's the LINK from that above site I posted.
Picture dosen't look anything like the one at the cinema!!!!
Have you or anyone else been there before? Is it worth a visit?

Probably have to speak to our resident expert on Dams, Kan Win.
If no reply from him I shall PM him in a few days.
I just looked at this site and couldn't see it there, well I don't think so. SITE
Have you seen the dam I'm talking about?
-
Hey all
I go to the cinema in Chiang Mai Major Cineplex and for the kings credits here since last week or so they have changed and in one scene there is a spectacular dam.
Not sure if the kings credits vary from location to location that’s why I added the Chiang Mai part, anyway.
It looks absolutely amazing and my girlfriend and I was wondering if it was actually in Thailand and if so where and is it possible to visit.
If you have seen the dam I’m talking about and know anything about it I’d love to get more info.
Cheers

Hi all, was up there 2 weeks back and was asked to show them some money, I did have it, first time I have ever been asked to show it. I was dressed well as usual, well jeans and a T-shirt but clean and well kept nonetheless.
They didnt count the money I simply flashed a bundle with a 1000 bhat not on the outside. I did ask if he wanted me to count it out for him, to which he remained silent, stamped the stamp and let me through with a grunt.
I wasn't being cocky, I just figured thats what he would want, Like I say, never been asked before so I had no clue.
I'm headed back up in around 10 days so I will update from there.
My advice....better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Blessings
Let us know how u get on with the new x ray machine too!

So the question is are farangs shopping brought in mae si being scaned by the x ray machine or are they just scanning Thai and Burmise?

Hey!
Not sure about that one, but after you recomending Grace I went there to ask how much a filing would be and they quoted 500-1500bht per surface so went to Detal 4 U 382-384 Thapae Rd, T Changmoi 053 874149 and they priced 500bht per surface no matter how deep or bad.
So went there on 14th and had 6 done and was a great service and there was patients there also!!
And they had alot of other services and I imagine it would be worth you having a look!
Cheers
