Why not just ask the concerned person, in my experience if you ask in a correct manor they will answer truthfully

Yes, I found LBs will answer honestly if asked, just ask in a polite manner "Excuse me, are you a ladyboy?".

But I like to avoid getting to that point, asking a real, older, less attractive, muscular, lady if she's a ladyboy is awkward...555.

An alternative is to ask them, during your conversation with them, whether they have any children and/or whether they want to have any in the future.

A woman would simply answer the question about children without realising that you had doubts about her true femininity. So you are not offending her. She would probably be happy that you seem to be taking a genuine interest in her.

A LB would immediately realise that you were ‘mistaken’ about them, and would, I’m sure, straightaway ‘correct’ you. She would probably be happy and take your mistake as a compliment. However, she wouldn’t want any trouble later on by allowing your mistake to continue.

I have to admit that I have never tried this method out. I don’t have much contact with LBs here in sleepy HuaHin. It simply occurred to me as I was reading the above as a simple and polite way of checking her out without causing offence.

I can remember when I was young seeing the film Triple Echo with Brian Deacon, Glenda Jackson and Oliver Reed

You can imagine how the Oliver Reed character reacted once he realised he was holding ‘meat and two veg’

  4. Out of interest, has anyone tried kegel exercises, which increase the strength of the pelvic floor?

If you Google ‘do kegel exercises help prostate problems?’, you will get a whole list of articles: some in favour, some less so; some are about enlarged prostate, some about urinating too much and some relate to post cancer treatment.

Also, if you click on “videos”, at the top of your page, there are several short films to watch too.

As usual, the only way to know, I guess, is to try it yourself. Looks like you need to be patient and to do it for several weeks/months. That’s why I am wondering if other posters have experience of kegels, which they are willing to share ☺️????

Btw, it seems that kegel exercises can also help women tighten their pelvic floor, which may also please their man in the bedroom.

"Hubris", thinking a woman was genuine.

Yes, she was an important part of it. Back in England, he felt he was a “nobody”. The yaba (crazy medicine) he was taking and selling, made him believe that he was now a “somebody”. His blind arrogance had made him too big for his boots. The woman was the hinge in the door that smacked him in the face with the reality (30 year prison sentence)

In 2011, he had been given the equivalent of 1,650,000 baht in redundancy money, but in 2017, his brother Gary had to use his life savings (the equivalent of 4,200,000 baht) to get him out of the Thai prison and back to Britain.

Owning and running a bar in Thailand is not a good idea.

  8. Not a good idea.

Jimmy Kelly a “hitherto decent lad from Watford” (so he was no Ned Kelly) fed up with being a “postie”, takes redundancy money and heads for Thailand.

A “friend” advises him to start a bar. Unfortunately the initial success goes to his head, and then it’s downhill all the way. A good example of hubris (see quote from, and link to Merrim Webster dictionary below)

    Lady journalist interviews Jimmy Kelly:
    https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2019/01/24/thailand-uk-man-life-bar-koh-samui-thai-prison-jimmy-kelly-drugs-prostitution-chang/

A short excerpt from the dramatized documentary and also ‘stills’ from Daily Star:

    https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/banged-up-abroad-jimmy-kelly-17147394

His brother had to use his life savings to get Jimmy transferred back to Britain, where he could “enjoy” his porridge in one of Her Majesty’s establishments.

At least he lived to tell the tale, and is now happy to be a darts champion in his brother’s pub.

    hubris defined:

    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hubris

“Hubris Comes From Ancient Greece (quote ^^^)

‘English picked up both the concept of hubris and the term for that particular brand of cockiness from the ancient Greeks, who considered hubris a dangerous character flaw capable of provoking the wrath of the gods. In classical Greek tragedy, hubris was often a fatal shortcoming that brought about the fall of the tragic hero. Typically, overconfidence led the hero to attempt to overstep the boundaries of human limitations and assume a godlike status, and the gods inevitably humbled the offender with a sharp reminder of his or her mortality.”

What is SWMBO? Remember you are on a forum here, not texting on your smartphone.

    21 hours ago, Ohyesuare said:

I didn't know either. A quick google search shows: SWMBO, pronounced 'swimbo', is an acronym of 'She Who Must Be Obeyed', a tongue-in-cheek reference to a female partner.

She who Must Be Obeyed comes from books, like ‘She’ and ‘Alan Quartermain’ by H Rider Haggard in the 1880s. He was born in England but lived a large part of his adult life in southern Africa.

She is called Ayesha who is 2000 years old, immortalized by a flame that burns in her subterranean world. She is served by an African tribe. She is waiting for the reincarnation. of her lover. He is Alan Quartermain.

To cut a long story short: being a 19th century book, she is white, of course, and he is English. She wants him to get into the flame to become immortal too. He is reluctant, so she steps into the flame herself. Unfortunately, stepping into the flame a second time reverses the process and she withers into a hag.

There is a film from the 1960s with Ursula Andress.

John Mortimer revives the She Who Must Obeyed title in his Rumpole of the Bailey books. Rumpole, tongue in cheek, is referring to his wife

Bringing this post back ‘on topic’. I am not a rich farang (good luck to those who are) so I do not tip much: 20 baht in Thai or Indian restaurants where the bill is 200-300 baht, but no tip if under 120 baht; 20 baht to lady hairdresser, who charges 150 baht for a simple haircut. I stay at 800 baht hotels, not 5* stars, for one or two nights so no tip. I do not have motorbike, scooter or car so I go by public transport so again no tip  There is a small Thai coffee shop  I go to 3 or 4 times a week. The coffee is 35 baht. I give the waitress each time 40 baht and indicate she can keep the change. Other coffee shops I do not tip.

I guess if I were more wealthy I would tip more, so I respect and understand the other posters on this thread who are more generous. These are difficult times for everybody, so if you can afford to give more money then that is a good thing. Although I am not wealthy, I am not complaining. I am happy in my life in Thailand; I have a good life here. I enjoyed reading other people’s experiences on this thread ☺️????

The case has been reported by the Daily Mail, so it will now get picked up by other international news outlets:

    Includes video of his arrest.

    Quote:

“Gordon allegedly confessed to both attacks but claimed the fact he was high on methamphetamine pills and had no control over his actions was a mitigating factor.”

    Quote:

“Gordon was caught on CCTV walking around naked in the massage parlor reception area before he allegedly raped the woman. Moments after the alleged assault he was caught on camera dressed hurriedly leaving the parlor. “

  11. It is interesting that farang’s wife admits to OP’s wife that it was her fault because she had withdrawn 200,000 from her husband’s account just before he was going to have to show his bank account records to Immigration. .A good example of Thai woman talking with Thai woman; no loss of face in doing so it seems.

Equally, it is strange, as it was such a free and open conversation, that OP’s wife didn’t ask her why she withdrew so much money in one go behind her husband’s back and what she spent it on so quickly. If she really is the farang’s wife then they have been together several years already and so she knows the score with Immigration and its eligibility rules.

Does OP speak fluent Thai? Sometimes, if Thai women are talking to you in English, you only get half the story, or at least only the part which she thinks you need to know.

For instance, was the Thai woman with the farang really his wife and not just his current girlfriend?  Sometimes, in Tinglish, the words ‘wife’ and ‘girlfriend’ are used as synonyms; just as the word ‘loan’ really means ‘gift’ when it comes to money matters.

Yes, yes, I know some posters on this thread have made wise choices with their Thai wives, and I have many farang friends who have made equally good marital choices too, but some farang have not.

However, if she was only his current girlfriend, then that might explain why the wife has suddenly chosen to withdraw 200,000 at such an inconvenient time.

Everything may be clear and make sense to OP’s wife, but if she was talking in English, or Tinglish, to OP, then something was lost in translation about what happened and why.

Finally, it is sad that the farang is not a member of ASEAN/ThaiVisa. He could have posted his problem on this Forum, and Ubon Joe could then have given the advice he has given above. The farang would then have got things sorted sooner instead of enduring sleepless nights with worry.

  12. Reply to OP:

ExpatOilWorker has kindly provided a blank certificate ^^^ (7 posts above this one)^^^ ☺️ Take it to doctor’s clinic, explain your circumstances and your need for a vaccine. Maybe you will need to visit a number of clinics before you find one who will sign the certificate.

It’s a bit like opening a bank account when you have only a tourist visa. The banks’ rule is you must have 12 month visa to be able to open an account; a tourist visa is not good enough. However, if you walk around town and visit every bank you will eventually find a branch where the clerk you are talking to agrees to open an account for you, because, perhaps,  they don’t believe in applying the rules rigidly.

in your case, you are not asking the doctor to certify you have an illness like cancer so that you can have some free medical treatment for cancer, but a mild form of asthma so that you can get the Covid vaccine.

Of course, asthma can be a very serious illness. My late father had bad asthma and one of his lungs had emphysema too. Only through sheer strength of will, he made it to the age of 90; he could easily have died in his 40s or 50s.

In my own case, when I was in my 20s and 30s I had mild asthma too, and had to use the small asthma sprays. Gradually, as I aged, I seem to grow out of it. My problem was nothing compared with my father’s.

I no longer put asthma down as a problem on an application form any more, but yours seems more recent, and perhaps occasionally returns.

I had the first injection of AZ last Saturday, but that was because I qualify age wise.

Anyway, shop around at the clinics to see if you can get one of them to sign the certificate. The worst that can happen is they will say no.

Doctors and nurses are generally nice, caring people, and they are aware that the roll out of the vaccines by the government has been too slow.

I am sure that you will find someone who will be happy to sign the certificate for you, and so help another person to get vaccinated.

    Good luck.

  13. OP may find these two articles of interest, which are about Cath Green and Sarah Gilbert who lead the teams that created Astra Zeneca at Oxford University.

It's a good service but you need to bear in mind they moved the HH end out from the bus station to the airport.

When you get to Cha am on the bus, the conductress will come down the aisle and collect the names of those who want to use the shuttle minivan from the company’s bus station, near HH airport, into Hua Hin. The last time that I was on the bus (pre Covid), the fee was 100 baht. You just give her the name of your hotel, and the minivan will take you there.

I live at the other (far) end of Hua Hin, in Khao Takiab. I am charged 150 baht which I am happy to pay to get home. There are green baht buses in town, but their terminus in Khao Takiab means that I must walk a further 15 minutes to my resort. Not much fun if you have heavy bags to carry.

If you don’t have a hotel to go to yet, the minivan can drop you in the centre of Hua Hin, aka The Clock Tower, where there are motorbike taxis. You are also near cheap hotels and hostels. The trip to the Clock Tower is free. The first time I arrived in Hua Hin, over 3 years ago, I chose this option, walked around and found a hotel within 10 minutes.

  16. I live in a long term resort in Khao Takiab. This morning, I received a text from the resort’s reception:

“We would like to inform you that the metropolitan Electricity Authority is necessary to temporarily cut off the electricity in this area on Wednesday 3rd March 2021 from 9 am to 4 am. We will not have an electricity supply in the building and no water supply during that period

    Sorry for the inconvenience

Does anyone know if the power cut is only in the Khao Takiab area or will it apply to the whole of Hua Hin?

If it applies only to my area then I will go into the town centre and spend the day there. If however, other members say that the power cut will be opeating in their area too, then I may as well stay at home as the shops will be shut too (unless they have generators).

  17. I have a number of mercury fillings which are now several decades old and need replacing. This time, I would like the mercury replaced by a safer filling.

I live in Hua Hin. I started a similar thread on the Hua Hin local forum, as I would have liked the operation in the city where I live and so cut out the travel and hotel costs. A practice was recommended on that Forum, but when I sent the firm a text on their website, although the text was acknowledged and a reply was promised by their computer system, I never received that reply. I assume therefore they don’t offer that particular service. No problem.

This is what a dental practice in Bangkok says on the internet:

“Many people are deciding they want to have their silver amalgam (mercury) fillings removed, but this can cause a tremendous amount of mercury to be absorbed by their body and make them ill. To help prevent this, safety precautions should be used so the person won’t swallow or breathe mercury vapor while the fillings are being drilled out Mercury vaporizes at room temperature. As soon as the dentist touches the filling with a drill, the temperature soars and the mercury vapor comes pouring off the fillings. Then when you take a breath it goes right into your lungs.“

The above quote is by Thantakit International Dental Center

Any suggestions from those who have already experienced the operation at a Bangkok dental practice, including Thantakit International Dental Center, would be much appreciated.

If anyone can recommend a practice in another Thai city then they are welcome to post their recommendation too.

    Thank you
