I sent a text, shortly after you posted the comment above ^^,  on their website to ask if they offered the amalgam/mercury replacement service.

When I sent the text, a message popped up on screen to say that I would get a reply shortly. No reply came back, which I guess is the Thai way of saying that they don’t offer the service.

OK no problem. I guess it will be Bangkok dental practice then, once it’s safe to travel there.

Anyway, thanks for your help Mister T.

  2. I have a number of mercury fillings which are now several decades old and need replacing. This time, I would like the Mercury replaced by a safer filling.

I did some checking on theninternet. I couldn’t find a Hua Hin practice that was offering this service. This is what a dental practice in Bangkok says:

“Many people are deciding they want to have their silver amalgam (mercury) fillings removed, but this can cause a tremendous amount of mercury to be absorbed by their body and make them ill. To help prevent this, safety precautions should be used so the person won’t swallow or breathe mercury vapor while the fillings are being drilled out Mercury vaporizes at room temperature. As soon as the dentist touches the filling with a drill, the temperature soars and the mercury vapor comes pouring off the fillings. Then when you take a breath it goes right into your lungs.“

Going to Bangkok is not possible right now, and, in any event I would prefer to have the operation in Hua Hin where I live.

Is there a dental practice in Hua Hin that offers a safe environment and procedure to carry out the mercury removal and replacemen?

Any suggestions from those who have already experienced the operation would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

I think you will find before covid, that Thailand has successfully tackled, that Thailand was one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. TAT were very successful marketers of the Thai brand.

Now, if countries such as the USA had also tackled covid as well as the Thais then the world would be pretty much back to normal.

I have noticed that TAT bashing is a popular pastime on this forum. I have been coming to Thailand since 1978, and can’t say I have ever been ripped off by TAT. My family and friends have had endless wonderful holidays here, and they are chomping at the bit to return.

I lay the blame on the ruined tourism industry on the countries whose citizens refuse to follow simple guidelines such as mask wearing, social distancing etc. They have caused 100,000s deaths for themselves and destroyed millions of livelihoods worldwide.

The stupidity, selfishness and incompetence  really annoys me.

First, Natai Beach, it is refreshing to see a post that is different from the usual comments about TAT. It gave me something to think about ????☺️ and it’s good to know that you have had 30 years of happy times in Thailand.

Yes, Thailand has done well to keep out COVID. A lot of ThaiVisa readers don’t believe the the infection and death figures that are officially published, but there are no social media reports from ordinary Thais which suggest that there are large numbers of cremations or buying up of funeral urns or complaints by overworked doctors and nurses. I am happy, on the balance of probability, to believe the government figures. I  live in Thailand more or less full time, and am happy here. I feel sorry for all those who want to return to Thailand, but can’t, to be with their families, or are currently stuck in a hotel room for 14 days on quarantine.

However, it is the government leaders and their medical advisers who should be congratulated not TAT. The problem for the government is to help all those Thais, as well as farang run businesses, who are desperate for work and money to feed their families.

TAT’s contribution to the National Debate is full of hot air. Here are just 3 recent examples, out of many others:

    https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1187024-stv-not-a-single-chinese-person-actually-applied-for-a-special-visa-tat-supplied-list-of-names/

    https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1184325-tat-latest-elite-card-holders-who-buy-a-condo-can-stay-long-term-and-get-work-permit-but-theres-a-catch/#comments

    https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1193189-packages-approved-to-attract-big-spending-foreign-tourists-to-thailand/

It’s true that Thailand was very popular before COVID, but that was because the Thai currency was a lot weaker than it is now. What most people want is a cheap holiday for alcohol, cigarettes, hotels, lots of sun, and (for many single men) plenty of opportunities for intimacy with the local ladies. They were prepared to overlook the rubbish left on beaches, taxi scams, Thai/farang dual pricing, and Thai lack of understanding of how to run the tourist industry.

Before COVID, it was becoming clearer as each year passed that the party was over. The ‘killer’ was the high THB which made tourist pleasures so much more expensive, and tourists were going elsewhere for their fun. COVID has sped this whole problem up, and TAT has little understanding of what farang tourists really want. Indeed, when the THB first began to shoot up in value, TAT’s response was to ignore farang and instead to talk up their plans to attract vast numbers of Indian and Chinese tourists: they represented TAT’s rosy future for Thailand.

Interestingly, although tourist bodies in Thailand have been around for 50 or more years, the present one, known as TAT, was started on 4th May 1979. By a strange coincidence, 4th May 1979 has a more famous historical anniversary: Margaret Thatcher’s first election victory (see both photos below)

Initially, Mrs Thatcher was even more unpopular than TAT, but conveniently, in April 1982, the Argentine Junta invaded the Falklands, and so made her second election in 1983 dead simple. Sadly, for TAT, they are on their own on this one and there’s nothing to indicate that they are learning what to say or do.

A bit of an oxymoron there silver sea, where you post that one of your American friends who lives in Thailand is highly intelligent, yet on your post, this highly intelligent person you speak of mentions, "Biden is deep state".

Do a bit of research on this "deep state" nonsense and you will find that it's a figment of the far right's imagination.

In future I wouldn't listen to what your "highly intelligent" friend has to say because he's clearly not what you say he is!!!

Thank you for your ‘advice’ Xylophone. If you had read my screen shot more closely you would have seen that I said that I do know what deep state is, and asked my friend for links connecting it to Biden.

My friend was educated at a good uni, although not in political science. Maybe his views are not ones that you approve of, but he is fundamentally decent and honest, and so wouldn’t last long in politics, which is a rough old trade.

  5. As you are in Bangkok you could try LadyDateFinder: https://www.thailadydatefinder.com

This offers to arrange a number of individual meetings with Thai ladies in Bangkok. They seem to be trying to organize long term relationships rather than one night stands. Obviously, you have to pay them a fee for the help, but the price is not exorbitant, but it’s where the company seeks to make its money. Nothing wrong with that, if they help you find the right lady for you.

Secondly, it presents itself as being run by a Thai lady. It is easy to be cynical about who the real owner is, but she seems genuine, so on the balance of probabilities, I would be inclined to believe she is the boss.

I haven’t contacted any of the ladies on the app. I have tried Thai Cupid, Thaifriendly in the past. In the present economic times, Thai people are having real difficulties. The women online are looking for someone to help them financially support their family. They may be decent Thai ladies, but they are struggling with money problems, even though they are working. Then there are those women who offer massage or they live in Pattaya so I have lost interest in dating apps having had some bad experiences.

The lady date finder, assuming it is genuine, looks a good possibility for you and might be worth trying.

I would add that I have had one or two emails from this company giving advice on how to impress Thai ladies e.g. instead of using chat up lines, which are fake and rehearsed, and instead of giving the impression that you are ‘needy’ or ‘clingy’, you remain calm and centered with her, because you have purpose, masculine energy and intention in life (that is a very brief summary of two of the long emails I received on how to be attractive to Thai women).

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you good luck and hope you find the right woman and much happiness ☺️

Which Thai Immigration office has the most lax financial requirements?

The Tha Yang immigration official I talked to actually seemed apologetic of their requirement for 800K in a thai bank for 2? months + 3 consecutive months of 65K deposits in a Thai bank, or 12 months of 65K baht each.  They advised me 'on the side' to find the most lax immigration office (Phuket?) and go there for an extension using a "home" Phuket? address.

Any opinions on the most lax Thai immigration office concerning financial requirements?

I've never heard of an additional income requirement. 800K baht on deposit 2 months before extension, and 400K baht before that, is all that should be needed.

I keep it simple by leaving the 800K in the account year round.

Perhaps someone in the Tha Yang office is looking for a bribe.

800k in the bank (seasoned for 2 months prior to extension application)

    -OR-

65k fixed income a month for 12 months

    -OR-

A combo of money in the bank and monthly income that combined total 800k year are the standard financial criteria for a non-O/OA retirement extension.

Financial criteria for non-O marriage extension are different.

I had a Non Imm O-A from the RTE in London. It was on its second year and was due to expire two months ago (20th August). Usually, I return to the UK each August, but because of Covid restrictions, I decided to stay another year in Thailand instead. The chances of reentry to Thailand from the UK are slim.

In July, I did my 90 day report at the small satellite Immigration Office at Bluport in Hua Hin. I said that my O-A would expire soon and that I planned to apply for an extension of stay at the main Immigration office on the outskirts of Hua Hin.

The official was very helpful and handed me a blank application form (TM7) and a sheet which listed the documents needed to support the application.

The sheet is a photocopy of a list someone has typed on A4: one half in Thai, one half in English. Being a copy of a copy of a copy, many times over, the typing is faint in places. For this reason, I won’t show you a screen shot.

I have quoted the sheet below:

    Retirement Visa

    1. Application form (TM7) and one 2 inches photo (4x5 cm)

2 A copy of passport (must be Non Immigrant visa)

    3 Extension fee 1900 baht

    4. The applicant: 50 years old or older

    5. Proof of financial statement.

“A certificate letter from a bank of savings or fixed account book in Thailand, which shows at least 800,000 baht saved in the account for the past 2 months. Also, 800,000 baht must be saved in the account for the whole 3 months after the visa is approved. After that time, the applicant can withdraw from the account, but there must less than 400,000 bath in the account, or“

I have quoted as typed on the sheet, but the last line should probably read: “.....but there must BE NOT less than 400,000 in the account., or”

Their requirement concerning proof of income is a separate paragraph which follows the paragraph about savings, which I have quoted above.

Also the above savings paragraph ends with the word “or” and so it is indicating that proof of savings or income are separate options with separate rules.

I quote below the income paragraph (one word I could not read, so I have shown it as ****):

”The applicant must earn total income of at least  800,000 baht a year (from savings, fixed money **** bank account pension, and the social welfare) for this case. The applicant must show the amount of money in the bank account for at least 2 months from the past, and also 3 months after the visa is approved, then the applicant can withdraw money, but there must be not less than 400,000 baht in the account.”

    6. Copy of house registration, or rental holding contract, or residence map.

    7. For Non O-A need Thai Health Insurance website long stay tgia org.

For what it is worth, I believe that the Tha Yang Immigration Office is wrong concerning an application relying entirely on savings only. You do not have to prove your income as well.

You only have to prove both savings and income if you are relying on a “Combo” e.g. 300,000 savings and the balance of 500,000 (which together total 800,000) from income over 12 months.

I am assuming from your OP that you want to rely on savings only, although you have income too.

My advice would be to post a new thread on the Thai visas, residency and work permits forum:

    https://forum.thaivisa.com/forum/1-thai-visas-residency-and-work-permits/

Ask them to confirm that Tha Yang is indeed wrong; and to quote the relevant regulations from the official rule book in both Thai and English.

As you probably know, the moderators and members on that particular forum are very experienced and can quote you the relevant regulations. You can then print off the regulations and show them to Tha Yang Immigration Office.

Finally I would confirm, that using the information sheet quoted above, I got my extension of stay from the main Hua Hin Immigration Office on 19th August without any problems.

I also did my 90 day report at the satellite Immigration Office at Bluport, Hua Hin in September; again, no problems.

    Good luck.

My own feeling is still that 500,000 for a 5 year visa is too much to pay, and verges on a scam, and as you have said yourself you still need to pay 1900 each year and do 90 day report. The 20 year visa is more tempting, but things are too uncertain, as explained in my earlier pist.

This is an elite visa thread which you may find interesting which shows what happens if you don’t exit each year and omit to pay Immigration 1900 for permission to stay another year. This poor fellow got himself into all sorts of trouble with his 5 year Elite visa, and sadly, some ThaiVisa readers were not very sympathetic.

The article below is by Steven Mosher about a new book by Giuseppe Tritto, who is “an internationally known expert in biotechnology and nanotechnology. He is also the president of the World Academy of Biomedical Sciences and Technologies (WABT), an institution founded under the aegis of UNESCO in 1997.”

Professor Tritto, in his book, argues that COVID-19 “... definitely wasn’t a freak of nature that happened to cross the species barrier from bat to man.  It was genetically engineered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s P4 (high-containment) lab in a program supervised by the Chinese military.“

As you might expect, Shi Zenghli, aka Batwoman, gets plenty of attention. In the early years, she received financial and scientific help from French and American virus experts.

“Although neither American nor French virologists are responsible for the end result—a highly infectious coronavirus and a global pandemic—their early involvement may explain why so many insist that the “chimera” must have come from nature.  The last thing they want to admit is that they might have had a hand in it.”

  13. Sad story from Chiang Mai:

    https://chiangmaione.com/featured/scottish-sas-hero-laid-to-rest-in-emotional-ceremony-in-thailand

Davie Penman from Falkirk, Scotland was born on March 4th 1964. He was a Sergeant in the Parachute Regiment, and then became a trooper in the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). He served with distinction in Northern Ireland and in Kosovo.

In 1999, he was on board a Hercules aircraft when it crashed on take off during the Kosovo War. Two of them helped another trooper, Chris, to escape the wreckage, before the ammunition on board exploded. Chris had to have his leg amputated while Davie Penman was left traumatized by the experience.

He left the SAS in 2000 and joined various security firms that offered jobs in places of conflict like Iraq. He was unimpressed by them, because it seemed that greed and profit were more important than safety and integrity.

The BBC employed him as a bodyguard for Sir Billy Connolly on a Red Nose trip to Somalia. He became good friends with both Connolly and his wife Pamela Stephenson. She had been a comedienne (Not the Nine O’Clock News), and then trained as a psychiatrist. It was she who told Davie Penman that he had been traumatized by PTSD.

This is Davie Penman’s memory of the Red Nose trip:

“The BBC wanted to do a ‘story / piece to camera’ about street kids living in Hargeisa the capitol city in Somaliland. We were up early as they wanted the sunrise, call to prayer and the children waking up (all very TV/MOVIE iconic?). Off we went downtown to do the police station for the planned filming .... The Red Nose team never understood the young street boys hung around the Police station, not for protection but for food, in return for attending ‘parties’ with the policemen. Such is the culture in Islamic countries! I hope the donations to Red Nose day was spent on KY JELLY and CONDOMS! For those poor boys. No one seemed to notice what was really going on, just a piece to camera to pull at the heartstrings of the public for donations.”

He never received much sympathy or support for his PTSD from either the British Army or the National Health Service. In the final years of his life there were various low points. He lived in Thailand with his Thai girlfriend Mu: “she supported him through thick and thin.”

According to his brother, he did not commit suicide but: “David made no secret of how difficult he found living with the images of atrocities he witnessed in various conflicts.” It seems that he may have died from cardiac arrest.

  14. Chinese scientist seeks refuge in US because of her postings about the origin of coronavirus in Wuhan.

    Quotes:

‘I could not stay silent. I could see China was covering up the truth and I had to do something since I was a professional who could explain it.’

Chinese public health officials who pointed the finger at the market on January 1 eventually admitted four months later that the virus did not erupt on the site after a series of studies challenged their claims.

Dr Yan says she could see there was a cover-up with ‘terrible things’ happening. ‘The market was a smokescreen. I knew I had to somehow deliver a message to the world but I didn’t want to be disappeared before I could deliver my warning.’

Dr Yan remains defiant. ‘My parents have told me not to harm my country. But I had to do this as a doctor and as a scientist. I have to tell the world about the cover-up. If I did nothing, how would I live with myself?’

I would be inclined to agree with the academics.

There were occasions when readers of U.K. newspaper articles on coronavirus would say in the “readers’ comments” section at the bottom of the article that when one of their relatives died in a hospital, a decision had to be made about what to put on the death certificate. The relatives were told that if they agreed that coronavirus was the cause of death, the body could be released quickly for the funeral.

If however the relatives felt that death was caused by other reasons, the body would have to go into storage and that it might be weeks or even months before a final decision on cause of death could be made.

Naturally, distressed relatives wanted to have a funeral as soon as possible and so were more likely to agree that coronavirus, rather than heart or cancer problems, caused the death.

Further to my comments above, here is an interesting article about Professor Karol Sikora “who has gained a huge Twitter following during the crisis, claimed doctors are sometimes too keen to mention the disease on death certificates.“

He is also a cancer treatment expert.

Britain paused its daily update of the death toll last month and the government ordered a review into how Public Health England reports coronavirus deaths, after academics said the daily figures may include people who died of other causes.
