Well the latest Benelli models are certainly designed by Italians.

    The Italians at Ducati.

Ha Ha . There is a likeness , true. I think its difficult to design a super-sport style or  cafe racer style , etc etc , of bike without having some similar styling cues from other , similar , bikes. This is why i like Italian bikes. Their style stands out over the same type of Japanese bikes.

Clearly the Chinese are copying Ducati designs, the Diavel is the most obvious example. I'm not sure how they get away with it to be honest but hopefully it's not successful as it's pretty unethical to do this.

What are you talking about - Chinese.   Benelli is as Italian as Ducati.  The background owner of the company makes very little difference , its still an Italian designed / built , Italian bike.

AH , that makes more sense. Thanks for posting back. Some manual bikes , and cars , run ATF oil , in the manual gearbox . Strange as it seems. On some Honda motocross bikes 10 / 15 years ago , they had 2 separate oil sumps , 1 for the engine , containing 4 - stroke motorbike engine oil , and 1 for the gearbox , containing motorbike gearbox EP oil , not car gearbox EP , or ATF.

That pipe comming out of the header sure looks like the beginning of a 2 stroke expansion chamber but it could just be camera angle

Yes , its a 2 stroke. The thin cylinder head just holds a spark plug , no valves , camshaft , springs , gears or chains. ATF for the engine ?. I think you could mean for the gearbox - wet clutch. 2 stroke engines normally use 2-stroke oil .Maybe a Thai / English translation error.

Way back when in the '60's my father had a Bedford coach and one of the cylinder head studs in the block was stripped. Not having a spare coach for the weekend he put some "plastic metal" sort of Araldite stuff down the hole. Welded a tap to a steel rod and retaped the thread, rebuild the engine and voila.

    If it works, it works!

Ive used JB Weld to repair a Vauxhall petrol cylinder head , that was being eaten away between two cylinders due to a blown head gasket. Filled the void , sanded level , done. It lasted the customer a few years and was sold like this. I wont admit to the repair i made to a brake caliper piston , however. Off road Jeep , i still have.

  6. JB weld   . LOL.  * tg , shame on you. An engineer too. Thats very poor quality fitment / assembly at the factory. If the warranty only covers the engine , you have nothing to loose doing your own repair / part replacement. 800 Baht is cheap , but as you say , shouldnt be needed. You need to ensure the new parts are a better fit too , as others have said.  * joke - i know.

  7. Theres not too many GPX dealers , but they look to offer similar quality / value as the Stallion bikes. Honda , do you mean the naked CB , or the faired CBR. You can pick up a pretty new one for 80K. Avoid the "300" cc model ( 286 cc ) as it has engine issues.

  8. Hi CMKiwi . I dont think your biased , ive heard the CRF is as good /  better  if you ONLY ride on the road. Which confuses me why Allan would buy it. With its increased weight over the KLX ,  and non adjustable suspension , it stumbles at the first hurdle . Mods can improve it some what , but why not start out with a better / more suitable bike in the first place. I think i replied to your SXV / RXV thread before. Ive never seen one for sale in LOS , nether mind CM. Its not the lack of torque on the CRF that is a concern ( on a 22 BHP 250 , that has to be expected ) , but the rough running / lack of pull below 4,000 RPM.

I have typed many replies to this thread ,  but keep deleting them ,,,think I will leave it at that.

You can lead a horse to water - - - . Ive offerd advise , you havent replied. You have a faulty bike. It wasnt the best bike to buy in the first place. Next time - Kawasaki KLX.

  10. The CR 5 is a smart looking road bike with a 200/250cc engine of basic design. Think of it as a smart looking roadster , similar to the many 200/250cc Stallions you see about. There seems to be more Stallion dealers about than GPX dealers , if thats an issue for you. Many second hand Honda CB / CBR bikes for sale , from 45K up. Stallion 400 gets great reviews , but only came out last year ? so not many for sale.

  11. Allan , have you looked into the suggestions i made last week ?. The lack of torque is expected in a small engine but Honda have made it worse by fitting a larger ( commom with the CB/CBR ) throttle on these 2017 machines. This leads to fuel drop-out at lower revs due to the lower airspeeds going through the inlet manifold. This leads to poorer low speed running. Exactly what you dont want on a "dual sport" bike. I still suspect your issues are an engine / electrical fault.

  12. I know Thailand has some low quality petrol , and very low quality diesel. Palm oil is added to diesel fuel , in varying percentages , depending on its surplus production figures. Ethanol in petrol causes no end of problems. Untill the diesel fuel situation is fully sorted , Thailand cant cleanly run "Euro 6 " diesel vehicles.

You can stick and mig weld stainless same as steel, with the same rods and wire out in the boondocks for an emergency repair. However, the weld and the surrounding area will soon go red rusty...

Hey , man. I only drive these things. I dont know what makes them work !.  Quote from a famous movie , which one ?. Thaiguzzi , this is why experts such as yourself fix the machines , when people like me break them. :sorry:
