  1. The senator is right.

Dropping the amnesty bill would remove the biggest barrier to reconciliation. Then take it from there.

Yes definitely as is telling the reds to stop intimidation but neither are likely yo happen.

This new forum with handpicked members is just another dog and pony show

  2. Maybe it's just too early on a Sunday morning but this was heavy going as a read with so many names of people, military ranks and organisations plus probably fanciful figures. The reds usual 100,000 attending has gone back up to 500,000 and if the call only went out yesterday good luck getting 20,000 from every province into Bkk by today.

  3. It is wrong for us to push our values on Thais but i don not think " parenting ' is a big deal here. I like to think I was brought up well and kindly but left in no doubt as to right and wrong and hopefully i got it right with my own daughter and now she does with with my grandchildren

I will not get into what i see, know and think of the majority of Thai families I know and their attitude to youngsters but it's not complimentary

Well, not liking 3 year olds to be extorted and forced to drink acid is, I would hope not only a part of foreign culture.

i would like to thank that and probably it is. Let's wait till the girls get into young teenage years and pimp them out

  5. The US announced a global terror alert alert today from chatter they picked up. 21 embassies were closed. They expect possible waves of terror following Ramadan.

A religion of peace they say

Take your weekend to do some learning on religions before posting ignorant comment like that NKK

I didn't say it first they do regularly and I'm not a fan of any religion. It was a statement of fact not an ignorant comment and if i can't repeat what people say about themselves there's some sadly wrong.

  6. You can not deraill a system that simply only exists in the imagination of a few that would have us believe that they have a viable solution to this problem. Also, is it not about time that we also stopped refering to such acts as insurgency and fully accepted that a civil war exits in these southern provences and that there are terrorists commiting acts of terrorism on a daily basis.

I also fail to undrstand why the foreign media and the various foreign embassy's do not highligt this situation in true perspective,

CNN and BBC all but stopped normal programming over the sad Boston Marathon bombing yet the south gets nothing more than an occasional mention and ironically around the same time there were multiple deaths caused by a bomb down south.

Is diplomacy at play here so as not to upset Thailand ? I'm sure secret diplomatic cables will be saying a lot but travel advisories are carefully worded. Tourists are more likely to be told about Phuket and Pattaya but I really can't comment about tourism in the south other than hearing how Malaysians like to cross the border to enjoy the pleasures that are not so readily available.

  7. Conflicting reports about protests as an earlier thread had the BIB saying the public would not be affected but this one talks about expectation of violent confrontation although no source is named.

With protesters travelling into Bangkok, with violence supposedly expected and the red shirts attitude to rallies other than those organised by them this could get nasty, unfortunately.

  8. Lord Of The Flies stuff.......

Once again it's not a Thai only issue, there are deranged children walking the planet all over the place.

That 10 year old will need to be assessed to see if she's actually psychotic, and in as much as we all would like to think that all kids are sweetness and light, some do show psychotic tendencies at a young age.

As for the three year old, hopefully young enough to forget, and naturally we all hope she makes a full recovery.

I don't know much about Thai law but at age 10 what can be done ?

She needs to be sorted out somehow because a protection racket at 10, what does she move into next?

As a side issue it seems to me there's a lot of dodging responsibility. Many years ago a very experienced primary school teacher in a rural area told me she was appalled at a PTA type of meeting she had attended where the school blamed the parents for problems and vice versa.

  9. Hmmm..... Sometimes I am not sure why there is a justice system here. Feels like simply a sham to assage farangs who are more comfortable thinking there is a justice system like in the real world. 78 people dead and no one responsible ?? Have a feeling this will not go down well with the Pattani separatists, will be curious to see what they do.

Great Post. It's hard to believe that people died because of officialdom and that's it. Maybe I should say not so hard to believe in Thailand and no real outrage, where is the media, where is the Panorama or 60 Minutes investigative journalism?

Listen to me, Have I forgotten where I living ?

  10. "The 34 relatives' petition asking the Supreme Court to review and change the Songkhla Provincial Court's findings on the case was turned down on grounds that the Bangkok-based court had no authority to make changes."

Cold cold cold. The Bangkok court took the chicken manure route by cowardly avoiding the issue. We all know that the top honcho of the Tak Bai massacre (Thaksin) and the top brass who turned their backs on the unlawful deaths (happening within spitting distance of where they were at the time) - are untouchables. Yet more proof, that you can get away with murder in Thailand, if you're well-connected.

It's not so much well connected as for the reality that the army is never accountable for its crimes, in this case an appalling atrocity. The usual suspects on this forum and elsewhere were more interested in Tak Bai as a way of attacking Thaksin.Undoubtedly he had responsibility as PM at the time and a more honourable man would have reacted differently than the callous way that he did.But he was not personally involved. These crimes were committed by the Thai army with its history of cruelty and brutality. Its senior officers have escaped scot free once again. And the reaction of the usual suspects (unless they can somehow work Thaksin in) .....a long cool silence.

and the courts can play " pass the parcel " for as long as needed

  11. Tell The Truth ? For goodness sake this is Thailand

And there's the rub. We have already heard the usual claims playing this down. As the days go by, it's clear that the oil spill is far more extensive than first claimed, and that the impact on the environment will be worse than first admitted.

As usual, the knee jerk desire to save face took absolute precedence over the logic of doing a real time environmental impact assessment and the deployment of a well planned and rehearsed response before making such stupid claims.

Tell the truth in Thailand? Oxymoron.

    Next...

Nice One. What'sThai for oxymoron " Hello hansum man " ?
