  1. The following stats are rainfall from cyclones in Taiwan. Well, of course it does not rain like this EVERY day. But having lived there we often read the local newspapers and occasionally we see it reported that places, particularly down near Kaohsiung will have rainfall of over 2000 mm in a 24 hour period. I know it sounds like to you but Taiwan is a fairly wet place and everything is usually just about half waterlogged most of the time.

I am trying to post this table here from Wikipedia but I am not having much success. I am using one of those waterlogged laptops I brought over from Taiwan, I guess is the answer.

If you look here you can figure out the numbers, or you can go to Wikipedia and look at the original table .

Usually the power will go out and then the water supply. But this is not a problem to cause one not to shower, and I do often enjoy going outside when it rains in the summer time with a bar of soap. As I say, it is heavenly.

  2. Anyone who can read a newspaper knows that the best country in the world is either Denmark or Sweden - I just wouldn't want to live there in Winter or have to finance anything resembling nightlife in either country. No accident that LOS hosts so many from Northern Europe each year. Finland, Norway and Switzerland also feature prominently in many polls, but Denmark/Sweden have more interesting music and women biggrin.png

You ought to ask the Danes what they think about Sweden laugh.png

i was told that swedes are danes in birkenstocks

  3. Samran: We imported household goods into Thailand from Australia about 18 months ago in Thai wifes name. At that time bycyles were not exempt from import duties so gave them away to friends. Cross check if this is still true as you may be hit hard.

Ask your agent in Oz if they have an business arrangement in place with Asian Tigers in BKK. They provide a great service and will delivery to your Thai address.

Thanks for that. Leaning towards Allied Pickfords. Just looked up the thing about bicycles. As you say, not considered as part of household goods, so the tax on that might be up to 40%. Might be worth selling.

    Cheers for the heads up.

however if you box em and flt with them, it shouldnt be an issue

  4. Gone back to the shop and given her a huge thanks and a huge smile. Found the manager and made sure he/she knows that you appreciate what the staff member did as well.

And if you haven't done that yet then I suggest you go and do it as soon as you can. Maybe take her a little gift as well, even just a good luck flower or something - not as a reward for her honesty, but as an expression of your gratitude.

i suspect this would have humiliated her and made her reconsider ever chasing someone down again.

a thank you on the spot would suffice, this is not an isolated incident, this happens all the time.

maybe thank her properly next time you are in the shop, or, if you must, a small gift.

in her place i would find a cash reward insulting, especially since the original sum returned was so low, any reward worth giving would have been overkill

  5. It gives new meaning to 'loss of face'

You've heard the expression 'balls to the wall' - now we have grinning farang sparking a new expression: 'balls to the nose.'

If I had a knife, and some guy tried doing anything remotely like that to me, whether he was dressed as a chick or not, he'd get a knife deeply set in his flesh.

Well, reading your remark, we have two main choices of interpretation:

the first is that you are full of shit and simply talking through your ass on the internet.

the second is that you are mentally deranged, and believe that stabbing someone is an acceptable reaction to a perceived loss of dignity.

either way, you dont come off well

  6. the second school should be able to arrange extension of stay.

I would be tempted to take the better job, just be subtle, and DO NOT let the first employer know where you are going.

it is not unusual for an old employer to try to sabotage your new position

i suppose the ultimate question is how many students are you screwing over by jumping ship?

and are you ok with that?

  7. i like the photo but what plant is it . Looks like a very old bougainvillea vine to me but i could be wrong .

Looks more like a Flame or Flamboyant tree to me...Delonix regia.... (if you want to get technical! ) ... they flower in red, orange or yellow... (Orange is most common, at least in the south! )

    Pretty sure not Bougainvillea wink.png

    Hi Jimmy

The two photos that Fabianfred posted are Delonix or poinciana as we commonly call them . Great trees they are, particularly the red which is one of my favourite trees for a specimen tree in a garden .

What i was referring to was the tangled vine that Candypants posted , or is it not a vine but an canopy of a tree. Looks like a very old vine to me. . .It is a great photo wither way and especially dramatic in black and white..

it is a tree though, definitly not a vine

  8. woo hoo! Mclaren team orders, perez not allowed to try button on.

That's probably to avoid collision as Perez still have to prove himself in the team.

Which teams would allow real fight between drivers?

Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, Mercedes likely not.

Force india, Red Bull, and the reset of the pack more likely would allow it. The rest of the pack might put a stop if they would be getting good points in the race.

thats all fine and dandy, but considering whitmarsh has be telling anybody who will listen that Maclaren allows its drivers to race, the teams actions were hypocritical
