  1. Asfar as I know, a 3 phase supply is around 150,000 depending on the distance. This is a deposit so if at a later date the gov put it in then you can get the deposit back. A single phase is around 30-50,000 with the same deal. You then can get 30,15 or 5 amp meters (have to pay again).

    :D:o WOW!!!

Is a 30 amp meter the largest meter that is available for a house? Are larger meters, say 60 amps available? :D

  2. PTE,

Yes, you can get a Visa on arrival. This is were I do my visa runs. You get stamped out of Thailand. 10 Baht for the bus ride over the Friendship Bridge (and 10 baht back). The cost is $30.00 U.S. for the visa. You can pay in Thai Baht, I think they want 1500 in Baht. They give a 14 day visa for Loas. This Visa run is hassle free. Not many touts on the Loas side, save for the people that ask if you want a taxi. If you do not, say no once and that is the end. They have the visa application forms there, no need to get ahead of time. Be SURE you bring a pen and a picture (passport picture) for the visa application. They don't have pens out to use.

    Good Luck :o

  3. Tutsiwarrior,

There is a great website that deals with building a house in Thailand. It has a lot of good information, the website is coolthaihouse. I would like to encourage all who have built houses in Thailand to share thier experiences and problems they had here. This will help other expats to avoid the problems other people had. I am looking for land now, and plan to start building in about a year. Good luck Tutsiwarrior, let us know how it turns out. :o

  4. My Bupa runs out very shortly. I have the Emerald package. When it runs out I am going to switch to a different company. I am thinking of going with Thai Health Insurance, the WH6000 IPD policy looks like a good choice for me. There policies do look to be a bit cheaper than Bupa. Also considering NSI but still don't know to much about them. Anyone have any experience with Thai Health? They look to be good. When my Bupa runs out, I think I will drop by Thai Health and talk to them about thier policies.

  5. I am considering buying some Jade as well. Last time I was in Chiang Mai I remember seeing quit a bit of Jade but don't remember the prices of it. I was thinking of taking a trip up to the Chiang Mai and Mai Sai area to look for Jade. I have heard good buys can be found in Mai Sai due to the close proximity to Myanmar(Burma) :o. Anyway, might be worth a look. Anyone else in the Chiang Mai/Mai Sai area know anything?

  6. Thanks Ajarn,

This was exactly what I was hoping for. This BB Gun sells at Wal-Mart for $45.00. I guess that's about 1800 Baht. It is a child's beginners BB Gun. Not very powerful, but enough to give the midnight howlers :D and front yard land mine laying dogs :D a little incentive :D . I read your paintball thread. What would you recommend calling this thing on the shipping forms? Air Gun (permit for child's toy?), sports equipment, none of the above :o ?

    Thanks again for your help.

  7. I am looking for a “BB” gun. Specifically, I want a Daisy, Red Ryder “BB” Gun. I have seen the guns they sell on the streets that shoot those plastic balls. That’s not what I’m looking for. Has anyone seen one of these, or can anyone tell me how I can find out if it would be legal to ship one to my house, from the U.S?

  8. Roiet,

If you can't find a dealer for houses, the marine industry might also be a way to get ideas. Sailboats often employ these kinds of systems, P.V.-cells, Batteries, inverters to produce electricity. Maybe you could get some contacts that way.

    Jim :o
