  1. i for one thing cannot understand why i would go on organised tours if papers were not in order!

there are so many easy ways to get to the border in a low key low profile manner.

for example a friend of mine went via train to buttersworth, at the border gave his passport, kept his mouth shut and they did not even pick-up his overstay, guess not many go there for a visa run!

and the airport is easy, just pay fly-out and come back a few days later, and why not get a type 'b' visa, you can stay for 15 months making just 4 trips!

oh, and i for one after 20 years, have never been asked for my passport once, but then am more than happy to take the government bus and not being target on a farang tour bus.

its not rocket science really as there are so many easy ways to get to the border in a low key low profile manner.

    AIS 'assured' 3G licence

Lynchpin of Temasek buyout of Shin Corp

    POST REPORTERS

Singapore's Temasek Holdings has received assurances that mobile operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) will be awarded a third-generation (3G) licence as a condition for its investment in Shin Corp, according to local sources. 3G licences will give local operators the right to unroll new network technology with considerably faster transmission speeds than existing cellular technology.

More importantly, the issuance of new licences will allow existing operators to operate outside their current concessions, which include revenue-sharing agreements with state-owned TOT Corp or CAT Telecom.

Sources said Temasek had made 3G licences a lynchpin of its deal to invest in Shin, which holds 42.8% of AIS.

The National Telecommunications Commission has yet to finalise terms for new 3G networks, but is expected to issue new licences this year.

''It is 100% certain that AIS will receive a 3G licence. Never mind that the framework hasn't been finalised,'' said one AIS executive.

Another source close to the share deal said it was no surprise that Temasek, as the new investor, had sought reassurances that Shin and AIS would be ''protected'' in the future under telecom reform.

''Frankly, the deal price of 49.25 baht per share for Shin is quite expensive. But if you have a guarantee of a 3G licence, then it becomes quite cheap. And they will undoubtedly have first-mover advantage,'' he said.

AIS plans to invest 16 billion baht in new network equipment this year, with around half earmarked for 3G technology.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra announced on Monday that he was divesting his family's telecom holdings in a 73.3-billion-baht deal with Temasek.

The deal gives Temasek the 49.5% stake controlled by the Shinawatra and Damapong families and was structured through two proxy firms, Cedar Holdings and Aspen Holdings, to avoid violating foreign shareholding limits.

Mr Thaksin earlier this month approved an amendment raising the foreign shareholding limit for telecom firms to 49% from 25%, a move that also helped clear the way for the Temasek investment.

Gen Choochart Promprasit, the NTC chairman, denied any knowledge of guarantees offered to Shin for a 3G licence.

''The general 3G service framework is complete, but we have not yet decided how licences will be awarded,'' he said.

The NTC could choose a ''beauty contest'', where applicants are evaluated on their strengths, or hold an auction where the highest bidders secure licences.

Gen Choochart said even though TOT and CAT Telecom have already been awarded licences, they could not begin their services until the final framework was completed.

Meanwhile, Supadej Poonpipat yesterday submitted his resignation as AIS audit committee chairman and independent director, although he is expected to stay on as a company board member.

Mr Supadej, an AIS audit committee member for the past three years, is a 20% shareholder in Kularb Kaew Co, a new holding vehicle set up by Temasek as part of the Shin deal.

Kularb Kaew, with capital of 160 million baht, is 51% owned by Mr Supadej and Pong Sarasin, with another 49% held directly by Temasek.

The company in turn holds a 41.1% share of Cedar Holdings, which now holds 38.6% directly in Shin.

Other shareholders of Cedar include Siam Commercial Bank with 9.9% and Cypress Holdings, a Temasek proxy, with 48.99%.

Both Mr Supadej and Mr Pong are expected to eventually sell off their Kularb Kaew shareholdings to other investors.

Mr Thaksin earlier this month approved an amendment raising the foreign shareholding limit for telecom firms to 49% from 25%, a move that also helped clear the way for the Temasek investment.

Now we know why, talk about being shifty :o

  3. Read Germaine Greer's book "The Whole Woman" on this!

In post industrial societies it is individuals who marry; the nuptial agreement is seen as involving two people only. Even the children they may have together are not party to the agreement between spouses. That agreement has been reliant from the first on the intensity and durability of the sexual attraction between them. If the sexual attraction should lose its potency, if another attraction should eclipse it, the marriage is deemed dead. Such a system is bound to fail; no person can guarantee to be sexually attracted to another for as long as they both shall live. Sex is too anarchic a force and fat too responsive to fantasy to serve as the mortar holding together the building blocks of society. . . modern marriage is fragile because the demands made upon it exceed the tensile strength of the initial sexual bond.

Studies of the frequency of sexual intercourse between the spouses are neither numerous nor reliable, but they all demonstrate the same pattern. The frequency of marital sexual intercourse declines precipitously after the first year before leveling out to a steady, shallow decline. Wives are not sexy. Male sexuality demands the added stimulus of novelty. pg. 258

Comment: Exactly. The male sexuality requires novelty. Brilliantly stated, and answers so many questions. Why did he leave me when I was so good to him? Why does Hugh Grant need to get a hooker when he has Liz Hurley at home, why does a guy ditch his wife of 30 years for a 22 year old....The male sexuality requires novelty. Indeed.

So what has that to do with cleanliness you may ask, well did you marry her to be a maid or for sex???

  4. after reading some of the reply's, it ceases to amaze me that a lot of people are so brainwashed by society, and that they believe it too as being correct, they all are like sheep in a flock :D

so here we are chastining a young guy, who happens to have a different outlook on life and wants to experience it, so good luck to him, it all will sort itself out :D

who cares what another does, if they wanna dope, smoke or shag themselves to death, let them be, so what mind your own business :D

the bars are full of 1,000's single mothers, supporting there kids, after been dumped by their thai lads and they dont seem to be so upset about it :D

i choose to say single, with the purpose of netting as many innocent young girls as possible, as they say, when in rome, do as the romans do :o

  5. One thing is amazing that over 5600 people have looked at this post, this must mean that after fluffy, alcohol plays an important part in peoples lives.

Its like drugs, all you do is, is driving it underground during restriction times.

So if you want alcohol the hard-core desperado's will find or steal it!

  6. Best thing to do is trying to book a taxi at all times.

Mind you I once punched one up on the elevated highway from the airport after he tried to do the bt.750 trick, I said ok, than at the approach toll stop told him to turn the meter on. He refused, made a trantum and he threw me out the cab with luggage et all. He then still had the balls to ask me for the bt.500.

By that time there was a queu behind the cab, but anyway I gave it to him and a couple of labourers on a pick-up even helped me.

Anyway, another cab arrived and took me home for bt.120 plus a nice tip.

    So watch them!

  7. Good thing his girlfriend dumped him (I hope this happend for the girl). What a loser. Shows how dumb people in Netherland are. He's embarassing me. Same goes for his ex. They are both embarassing me. My reputation down the drain. Thanks alot.

You're a scumbag for making such a dumb statement, she said he claimed to be from Holland, because of that maybe, that does not make all dutch people stupid, >snip<[watch your language]

  10. Understood matey - whipped comes to mind!!! :D  Seriously it happens to the best of us - choose your battles wisely!!!

Thanks britmaverick... I really truly ruly did want to go, but there was no way known to mankind that I was going alone (as my other half suggested to me)... my relationship would have suffered, and I'm not about to jeopardize that for anyone... even you guys. :D

Sad to hear she controls your life :o

She doesn't... I make my own choices. I love her and I respect her.

    Simple isn't it?

Obviously, she does not respect you! Otherwise it should not be a problem at all for you to go out :D

Maybe you a bit of a butterfly? :D

  11. BS........Get on with your life, why don't go on ICQ, messenger etc, find a new gal, meet her when in LOS next time :D

There are virtiualy 1000's of nice educated gals out there, take your time, there is no need for the BS you're going through :o

Yes, its a fact, telling lies is an accepted fact in Thai society, especially when it's about losing face :D

I for one would never marry again, been there done that :D

  12. 500 baht represents roughly a month's drinking money for me - don't go out during the week (except for a bit of jogging) and at weekends my local serves up 4 bottles of Chang for between 200 and 250 while I watch soccer on the big-screen.

All those who are rushing to donate 500 baht for an evenings drinking would be better off visiting a hospital - start saving for liver transplants now!   :D

    W@nk€r ..... :o

Jai Dee - first time I met w/Dave for an hour. I got all sorts of shi*e about going for a short time. :D Sometimes I think I might as well done it. Luckily I get passes now when I meet people from the website...she sort of trusts me after many talks. :o

    And another sad sook :D

  15. 500 Baht! I couldn't drink that much beer, unless I was " stupid ferrang".

560 Baht......Would buy me.....48 pints of Ar-Cha from the local suppliers.

You guys must be on the wrong planet!

No wonder all the Thai's talk about millionaire farrangs.

    Claire.

Obviously you're a desperado, who should not be even staying here :o

500bt. is peanuts, maybe if you're lucky you get you a cocktail for that at Riva's :D

Its a good idea to warm-up, maybe pick-up a chick or 2 and then of to CM2 for more :D

  16. No, it is the truth.  I did not say that ALL expats in Pattaya are the dregs of society, I said that MANY of the types I'm referring to live there year-round.  I have been to Pattaya during every month of the year, and have encountered scenes that have made me want to gouge my eyes out every time.  There is no time of year a family is safe from ugliness in Pattaya.  It is not an appropriate family destination, in my estimation.

    I agree...Hua Hin/Cha-aam in my opinion is a much better option :D

    Leave Pattaya alone :o
