Of course, never regret coming to LOS.  Never regret one year.  2 years, ah, ok... 3 years, about enough time.  Not yet 4 years, but i would like to check out other countries (japan for sure).....ask me in one year.....if i'm still hear, then i might regret staying and being too lazy to check out other countries.  

I'm pretty sure Thailand is about the easiest country to initially visit.  people super friendly (rural settings) and after a year you start to sort-of understand how it works and when not to care.  couple years to learn simple conversation and how to read, understand people in a relationship, and then have a more open mind to things around you.  i just think the quality of farangs here are about the worst, so then i have to look in the mirror and wonder.....lol.  met a 60-year old yesterday, and first thing he told me was to go to Pattaya for sex.  i cry inside.  lol

if you are struggling to find 800k to keep in savings all year, then I really hope you relaxed your entire life......if i worked part-time during my life, this would be super easy.  i hardly worked at all, and this is super easy (but i'm not retirement age).  

Does everyone fail to remember what we preach?  This is not, and never will be, our country!!!!  they can change everything, make us "happy" and then change it all back.......or take everything, or do anything.  we have zero voice.  we have lots of rights (hopefully) in the country on our passport.  you want rights, go there.  

until they give you a Thai passport, forget it.  yes, times are changing.  you can change too!!!  just look on the map and go where you are welcome.  everyone is welcome here, but not forever if you are not rich.  

no house, wife, kids, and money in your home country's bank.....relative freedom.  you want a house and wife in a country that isn't your own.  problems multiply.  we know this......don't we?  so take your wife back home.....except most don't have money to do this.  well, then if you poor....see above.  you are not welcome.  

i'm not upset about it at all....if poor people came to my community back home and wanted to change immigration policies to suit them....LOL

seems like everyone missed it....this guy bragged about being with many women, not getting too attached, not getting scammed, seemed to know what games they play at bars, and acts like a nice guy because he knows he will dump them and move on......and then rambles about not getting mad as much.

use your head....this is typical insecure behavior and who would want such a lonely life?  oh yea, guys in Thailand.

I think about everyone reading this pays 1000 to 1500 baht when going to Laos, but why is it free coming back to Thailand?

Thailand should charge 1000 baht to cross the border.

then pay based on how many visa's, etc....... maybe 5000 for your third time Laos to Thailand in 3 years.

sorry if hijacking, but this is just one more reason why i cannot retire here.  went from 90% chance to 50% to 1%, currently.  this isn't really the proverbial straw, but part of the straw.  lol

life is crazy.  some people are lucky, some are unlucky.

I won't say you are unlucky or lucky, since maybe this guy saved you from something.  

but it's a big headache, for sure. 

i have overstays, never remember where i am staying, not cash on me, one-way ticket, and nobody cares.  i'm white, clean cut, and can speak a little thai.  now i have two years of holding a work permit, so might be even easier.  next time i'll have 20k for show, and i do get a new passport within the year.  

but maybe my luck will run out.

probably, to me, isn't good enough.  You need to be 100%, in-your-gut positive......  I was 90% sure I could retire here a few years ago, now i'm 90% sure I won't.  The last time I was 100%, I stayed there for 20-years.  Maybe this makes no sense to anyone...... anyhow, wish you the best when you leave LOS.  lol.

I 95% trust them......lol..... but there is that 5% chance that one day they wake up and change their mind...

there there is the piece of mind that i am not connected to a school.  and really "free".  I think part of the reason is they want to make sure i'm not teaching elsewhere, or seeing if i'm really just on vacation.  They think i'm rich...not working for 7 months before my job started, and now not working again.  5555.

I've never heard of 20,000 baht until last year, so that is on the checklist now.  

I think if your condo was ending in a month, but she figured you were going to spend more than one month in the country...... well, then of course something is wrong.  LOL.  Oh wait, let me think....that isn't a red flag at all.  who knows how people think....

they asked me where i was staying two years ago, i told them a temple (name of temple) guesthouse.  yes, it existed IF you didn't say WAT first...so it was a guesthouse with the name of a temple, but not a temple.  but i was super tired, didn't know any Thai back then, and said Wat........guesthouse.  he pulled up his phone, checked, used some common sense, and let me in.

Just when you heard it all.... OK, so I guess my school really, really likes me.  My contract is good until April 2019, so, yes, work permit good until April, 2019.  I have been there a few years.  I will do my 90-day immigration check next Monday.  

BUT I told them I am going to travel for two months.  So the plan was to cancel my WP, go to immigration, leave the country, and do that crazy process......  i'm not sure i will ever teach again, but maybe.  

BUT my school says.....   keep the work permit, email us if you want to come back, come back anytime....and in a few months, when done traveling, come back and talk to us.  they want it to be less stressful on me....

If you are me.....what do you do?

If I'm in Chiang Rai and show them a work permit (not sure who would ask) from a school in Phuket (not really where i'm at, but so you get the idea)...is that not a red flag when i ask to stay one month??

The ONLY headache is leaving the country after WP handed to labor office and going to immigration.  Maybe I'll fly out this time....

I feel bad for the teachers getting 15000 and must work all the time with no savings.  I'm the only teacher here who can take a year off and do nothing, which means I can fight back if I feel wronged.  

Their mistake was marketing my special class to thousands.  Class is full, 525000 a term to the school.  Nobody else here can teach this, I'm the only farang.

Puzzling why they thought a 10000 baht monthly decrease would work....

I've only been teaching 17 months, and 40000 is ok compared to others but I might be done with dealing with schools.  I'm not in BKK.

Well, maybe I did the wrong thing.

They will change this new contract to pay me my current salary, so not a 10000 reduction.  Current contract ends April 19.  New contract will end September 30.  

I told them I want a letter about when I will be fired if I don't sign the new contract, but they wanted to forget about that email.

They said I'll get whatever I want, so I'm not sure they were going to fire me.  I showed them (director) my contract and said I'll go talk to the labor department about the email and why what I do isn't noted in my contract.  

I guess I'll sign this only to avoid me going to the labor department and maybe talking about things that would cause them great stress.... maybe me2, but doubtful.

Now I'll only teach like 16 hours a week.  Instead of 21.

Will this be the end????

I'm sure more drama will follow.  

I gave them a written notice on June 4th.  

of course we met like 10 times since then, with them trying to get me to stay.

but more problems kept coming up.  

seems like if they fire me, maybe i can get one month's pay.  they didn't give me an official warning, just this email.  

and if they don't fire me, i want to leave.....i'll go to the labor department and make sure it's all fine and then hand over my WP.  

i'm curious when i must sign this new contract.......

I decided i wanted to leave LAST MONTH (many problems, one was that they gave me too much responsibilities not listed on my contract....like telling me to be a homeroom teacher, feed the kids, be with them all day), so I gave them notice on June 4th to leave on July 15.....contract said i need to give 30.   they got mad i was leaving, and said i must have a new contract until the end of the term.   at 10,000 less.  i told them i'm not happy and not signing......

on Wednesday, it will be 30-days since i told them i'm leaving.  i'll wait until then, unless fired tomorrow.  

if fired, fine.   if not fired, i'll go to the labor department on thursday and explain my situation.  

it makes no sense.  it seems like they want to fire me before i was set to leave.....

so maybe i will wait to be fired.   but then i have to wonder if they will pay me at the end of the month.  if not, another problem.  but an easier problem, i think.
