  1. its legal in the us , are you a u.s. citizen ?

My girlfriend of 6 years and I are planning our first trip to the USA this winter and now my family suggested we get married while there to save another trip for a wedding.

She has a tourist visa and we're thinking of a simple ceremony in Las Vegas. Our future 10 year plan does not include relocating / immigrating to the US.

Just wondering if anybody has gotten married in the US while on a tourist visa and is it a legal marriage?

  2. As a murderer. Now he's free to return back to Thailand, since it was false.

He was deported as an undesirable alien.

Now didnt he admit to this case or knew of it ? How is he going to be rich ? I think he would be killed before he became rich !

  3. BANGKOK (AFP) - Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra says he hopes France, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, would support a Thai candidate as the world body's next secretary general.

Thaksin and President Jacques Chirac will hold talks when the French leader makes his first state visit to the country on Friday and Saturday.

"We've asked for the support from President Chirac personally," Thaksin told AFP in an interview, adding that the next UN chief should come from Asia due to its presence in global affairs.

"But we don't know yet because if it were to be Asia's turn, we (Thailand) stand a very good chance," Thaksin said.

Singapore also said Thursday it backed the candidacy of Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai for the post of UN Secretary General despite a bid by South Korea's foreign minister. Earlier this week, Indonesia also announced its backing for the Thai candidate.

The race to replace UN Secretary General Kofi Annan moved to high gear after South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon on Tuesday declared his candidacy for the UN's top post.

Annan's second five-year term as UN secretary-general expires at the end of the year, and the Ghanian boss has said he should be replaced by an Asian to conform with regional rotation of the top job.

South Korea's Ban is the third Asian to declare his candidacy after Surakiart and Sri Lanka's Jayantha Dhanapala, an adviser to President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Thaksin said Surakiart, an academic-turned-politician, would do well for the world body.

"We hope that President Chirac and the French government will support because I think he is a good candidate. He will be very good for the UN if he can be" appointed, the prime minister said.

Chirac has told Thailand's English-daily The Nation earlier that the new UN chief must be a leader who can unite the international community but stopped short of endorsing the Thai candidate.

"This choice will be made bearing in mind that the successor to Kofi Annan must be a name which unites the international community," Chirac said in an interview with the paper, published on Wednesday.

Before entering politics, Surakiart was the dean of the faculty of law at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand's top university.

  4. Why, are you in love, Butterfly? :o

Personally, I don't think I'd mind very much if it was a very occassional thing, but I think I am the exception among Western women.

However, there is no way I could date or be involved with a man who chronically patronized bar girls, brothels, or internet porn. It hints at more significant problems, and also an extreme objectification of women.

I am in love with Kat !!!!!!!!1

  5. i´ve spent two birthdays here at the maktub. can´t remember most of either...

Well.... don't expect us to remember then! Happy birthday Klown (even tho I do recall you had one sort of recently!) :o

Ok so you are saying that money is what makes you rich or not poor . Its not the only thing , people are rich with fam ily and happiness . I live much happier in a shck with no electricty with a filipino family , happier than i have ever been .

  6. I'm heading to Phuket in March for a 3 week vacation. I'm planning to stay in Patong where the main action is.

I'd like to stay in a hotel at walking distance to where the action is (night life, beach) as I don't ride motorbikes. I'd like a good and silent room with silent A/C and a good bathroom. On the other hand I'm not interested in a hotel pool nor spa facilities nor hotel restaurant as I think I can find all of that in town and it's more fun. I was told that you could find all of that for 700-800 bahts (at least before the tsunami).

Can anyone give me an address? I know that the hotel scene is vast but my requirements and budget should shorten the potential list.

Also I'd like some tips on restaurants for breakfast (english style), lunch and dinner. Nothing gourmet style but good food and generous portions.

Any other tips on anything else are also welcome.

My advice is just show up stay at the aloha inn the first 2 nights , till you find something ok . I stayed at Jaxx that is behind the four seasons rest and inn . It was not finished yet so i got a great deal. Just explore and have a great time . There are english breakfast everywhere , try the rio at the end of bangla rd . Say hello to noy and thip for me . John from calfornia ! There are tons of places to stay and eat . you should be able to get a place for that no problem since it is 3 weeks !

  7. Sitting down having a drink in Chatuchak, approached by a young Thai who shows me my driving licence and asks "This you ?"....then produces my wallet from which he had taken it and looked around to see who matched the photo. I had dropped it when I was paying for something. Credit cards, heap of cash etc, totally refused any reward but accepted a coke!

I thank taxin had someone call these in and its just a bunch or bull !

  8. Update:

Fire rages THAI restaurant at Suvarnabhumi Airport

The four injured people were reported to be workers who were repairing part of the cafeteria building and then jumped in panic from higher floors of the building when the fire broke out. They were rushed to nearby hospital.

  9. A couple of years ago there was a Danish pastry that looked like mother Therese, then there was the turd that looked like Elvis, now there's condensation on a window that looks like...

What's the point and what does all this prove?

In answer to the post though, Thailand doesn't have a 'care in the community' dept, so think twice about coming...

IT'S safe to come if you are not a donkey !

  10. I discovered Ratri Jazzteurant tonight - a new jazz restaurant at Kata on the hill overlooking the ocean. This is one classy establishment that Phuket was well in need of. The resident band - Eddie Autobahn Faction is EXCELLENT! Apparently Eddie Autobahn is quite famous in Bangkok for his jazz music. It's outstanding, the whole place is so stylish and the live music is world class. :D

    6 :o -stars from me!!!!

Kata before or after Karon from Patong ? IS it the one right off the road overlooking the beach , high on the hill ?

  11. Drunken American Man decides to jump off a ledge and go for a swim without realizing how shallow the water is.

A bizarre story now from the Simon Beer Bar Complex located at the south end of Walking Street. Police and rescue workers were called to the rear of the complex in the early hours of Monday Morning after bar staff reported a badly injured American patron who had decided to jump off the back wall into the water below. The injured man known as Zak from America apparently decided to impress his friends and jump into the water. However what he failed to realize was the depth of the water which was far too shallow for a dive attempt. Fueled by an evening of heavy drinking, he jumped feet first and hit the sea bed, breaking his left leg and dislocating his shoulder. Rescue workers extracted the injured man and took him to Hospital where he is now recovering from his injuries.
