  1. This isn't the problem, it's about cause and effect. A non-violent person playing GTA will not go out and suddenly do drive-bys. An already violently predisposed person will turn violent from any trigger, be it movies, alcohol, GTA or being provoked on the street. The problem isn't GTA, the problem is knuckle-dragging mouth-breathing neanderthals that still roam freely in our society and cause havoc. Just consider that Scottish guy who went berserk in Pattaya, he didn't play GTA to turn violent, he got drunk. So did others without causing a disturbance.

  2. Thai's have a weakness for beauty and vanity. We should start a news story about a middle aged Thai woman who, after acquiring a few child angels, started falling sick, vomit, her cat was killed in an accident, and people started fighting around her home. It turned out the child angel doll was possessed with a demon that wanted to give people pain. So buddhist monks had to come and clear the demons by ritual and then sacrifice the child doll as it had some connections to a very dark spiritual place. Let's see how many dolls they sell then.

  3. what happened to the days of a fare fist fight ? caught at the airport that got to be an admission of guilt

I presume you mean a fair fist fight, those days are long gone. 50 years ago as a schoolboy i watched a fight between two 17 year old students, when one went down the fight stopped, he got up, they shook hands and that was the end of the matter, that was UK 50 years ago, now a knife would be pulled out or the guy on the floor would have his head kicked in. In some segments of social behaviour we have moved forwards in many others we have moved backwards.

I am somewhat surprised that the Egyptian didn't just hit the guy with his shoes...no joke. What happened to his culture here? OK to attack me now (with your shoes) but that is the way things were done in that culture when I was there. (I won't mention drinking alcohol which is 'haram'-forbidden).

Obviously an Egyptian in a bar isn't adhering to his culture, hence the booze and knife instead of tea and shoe.

  4. Every year, every month the junta takes further steps away from freedom and democracy and towards totalitarianism and censorship. Spending 5 billion on Internet censorship in the year 2016 is wrong. This country is gonna fail. They should be investing in the future, making brighter students, accepting foreign investment, developing technology, science and research. This will force the Thai's to remain consumers of western products instead of being the creators of it. I am not moving back. God I miss 2013 pre-junta Bangkok.

I'll bet they'll call it a suicide unless of course they find cigarette butts on the scene.

The cause of death is pretty much sure and you make this comment, get a life.

The cause of death is the island Koh Tao where foreigners perish at a higher rate than other locales.

  6. It's an easy, tried and tested fix!

    1. Enforce speed limits regularly and everywhere
    2. Remove dangerous intersections such as u-turns on the freeway (duh)
    3. Improve road safety awareness tied to driver's licence, make driver's license more difficult to obtain
    4. Make compulsory road safety awareness seminars followed by a test and reduce the insurance premium for those who attend and pass the test
  7. 'Public transport failure'

Fact No 2: More money is being pumped into public transport than is warranted given the number of people using it.

The Airport Rail Link is used by some 17 million people a year, and Bt33 billion is invested in it.

The Chao Phraya River and the Klong Saen Saep boat services serve more than 29 million people a year, but only Bt70 million is invested in them.

    ----------------------------------

But the boat services don't go to the Airport.

This comparison is ridiculous for a number of different reasons.

Apply your argument to the converse - the airport railink does not go to the same places as the boats do. Doesn't this show how ridiculous your argument is.

Big picture public transport management looks at how much is invested per target or actual number of people using that investment, ad well as other indicators, such as per transport km, etc. So not at all ridiculous.

The comparison was made by the article. Perhaps you had better discuss the matter with them.

Secondly, and this is apparently beyond your grasp: it is not possible to determine if an investment is profitable or not unless you know both the investment and the retuen on thst investment.

The return has not been provided in the article--which would be the revenues thru ticket sales.

I can't help you any more thsn I have. I can only lead you to the water...the rest is up to you.

The ROI on public transport is not ticket sales. It's however much more the people using the transport can contribute to the economy in terms of getting to work etc. Look at net contribution per passenger with and without the transport and you have a real ROI.

  8. This is terrible treatment of people. If you detained 9000 people in western countries on *suspicion* of overstaying but without proof it would be condemned by everyone. They also targeted the Africans, I don't see any farangs or Asians in that group. It's funny how Thailand can do what they want. Meanwhile in Europe hundreds of thousands of Muslim refugees keep coming in without identity checks and anyone raising a finger of caution gets labeled a racist.

  9. Even though I have and never will have any business with Thai loan sharks, I feel a deep disgust / repugnance whenever I see those Muak Gan Nok guys (mostly on 250cc bikes, mostly 2, both wearing helmets/masks, often gloves, long sleeve shirts, the pillion rider carrying a money shoulder bag) to an extend that I want to run them off the street. I hope all those devil's henchmen will have a life full of despair and misfortune as karmic repayment for working as debt collectors. As for the loan sharks themselves, charging 10% interest and more PER MONTH! I wish them nothing but gastric cancer, leprosy and brain tumors...

10% per month is less than some western instant SMS loans that can be up to 20% per month. Every country has debt collectors, some in the form of governmental credit bureaus. if you don't want to meet them either pay back your loan or don't loan money. I hate people who take loans and don't expect to pay them back. That's why there's debt collectors.

  11. I really wish the government would do some REAL LONG-TERM CHANGES. Banning children on bikes is typical Thai politics: short sighted, simplistic single rule, populist oriented. What if they hired consultants to draft a proposal for how to lower accidents by 50% in the next five years and 80% in the next 10? The consultants would study European traffic systems and countries with low traffic mortality, analyse the major problems with Thai traffic safety (u turns, following rules, cutting lanes) and implement a 5 year and 10 year plan. This would actually benefit people but long term thinking like this is always absent in Thailand. Long term planning such as above is what turned Singapore from a poor fishermen village to an economic powerhouse.

  12. Who ever thinks that cloning is anything the world needs then please think again ... this time use your own brain !!!

Buffalos first, humans next ... why ? Because we can !

A nightmare if it really comes true !!!

In every science fiction book, people like you are the ones holding society back. Luckily you will stay on earth while those who like science and progress move and colonize beyond the solar system.
